Default beginner looking for course reccomendations

Hey there. I plan on learning to fly fish this spring and want to include my sons ages 12 & 8. We know nothing about the sport. I was wondering if any one would reccomend an instructor offering a 1 day beginner class for us. We live in Dunnville area but expect to drive a couple hours to participate in a class.

if your in the Dunnville area there are many options for guides/instructors. Just google some key words. Grand River, fly fishing. I could of coarse name quite a few and save you some time. However if I name Joe Smith, not really fair to John Doe. In my personal experience hiring a guide is worth it, they will help shorten the learning curve and despite being "ok" myself when my daughters expressed an interest I hired a guide/friend to join us for a day. A teacher I am not, and I wanted my daughter to enjoy herself.........................

There is all kinds of information on the net for beginners and more. This is but one of thousands

Theres nothing in Ontario you can fish for, that you cant target using fly gear.
    Panfish
    Carp
    Trout
Bass....you don't know fun until you have a smallmouth hammer a streamer/popper on a fly rod
    Walleye
    Musky/Pike
    Big Chinooks in Lake O
    nothing.

Have fun, enjoy learning. Sometimes slowing down and smelling the roses is far more rewarding than catching lots of fish. Fly fishing will force you to "slow down".

Once you get your basics would suggest a day or two of bank watching the guys on the Grand below Belwood lake. A courteous hello and a request to watch them do it will give you a ton of info. There where a few local regulars that knew every brown by name and their favourite lie. They where also very helpful when I first looked into the sport. Although I rarely get out flyfishing to this day prefer watching the guys who know what their doing than fishing myself.

I would recommend joining a local fly fishing club. I'm sure you would be welcome. Club activities are educational and fun.

Wilson's fly fishing had courses. I see their store is gone but it looks like they are still around.
