What's the appropriate wage to work nights, weekends, deal with the scum of the earth as well as be responsible for thousands of dollars in funds.
Years ago a collector was stabbed to death at a scarboro subway station. As well as the one that was shot in a robbery at a downtown station.
If it looks so lucrative can I ask how many times you have applied for a job doing it .
Probably never applied .... You don't want to do the job but don't want anyone else doing it to make a good living at it.

I worked for Stelco for over 13 years, took the jobs that others didn't want because they involved having to actually work. Due to cutbacks, I ended up on a job that required pushing a button every 30 to 45 minutes, I have more incentive than that, so i left and moved on. Would have been easy, and good money to sit on my and collect a pretty good wage. Of course OT was available, and what's an extra 8 hour when you get paid for 12 when you hadn't done anything for the previous 8.
Thanks to unions that protect the lazy and ensure high wages for minimal, often unskilled work, there are people collecting large pay cheques for no value added. This I have an issue with. Do I have an issue with these people making a damn good living off taxpayer dollars? You figure it out.

A good friend of mine owned a retail store, sold leather boots out of it. Am pretty sure he to worked brutal hours, had kids (note the past tense), had to deal with "the scum of the earth" as well. If the store was still open these days, Im sure he might wonder how/why someone who sits in a booth can take home 100k, when his Hydro bills and taxes are going through the roof. His profit margins are thin as is, sales are sketchy because people are tightening their belts, hes lost many customers to WT the past 8 years and's he can't really just jack his prices either.

But the real reason the store closed?
Well people tend not survive being stabbed 37 times.

    You were saying SL?

Or the bank tellers of the world, who these days don't get an interview without a certain degree of education, are required to continue to take courses, work long hours, nights and weekends, have to "deal with the scum of the earth" and smile about it and make about 35k a year....and who sometimes have guns thrust in their faces to.
    ****************

When will people get it. Theres lazy people in all walks of life, theres good hard working, dedicated people in all walks of life, theres yellow grass, crap that comes with the job in all walks of life.....

    And before people say it.
"While she might often think about changing jobs, or taking night courses for a few years so she could climb the ladder and become a base level Financial Advisor in the branch that averages around 45-50k....

Maybe she's a single mom, with young kids. And really, theres no time to take the courses. Just as some who don't seem get PS to, often, aren't all that different.......

At the end of the day, no matter how it's sliced or diced.
People have been sounding warning bells for years............
As the years have gone by, the howls have gotten louder...
As the years have gone by even more, the howls are turning into down right anger.
And seems at times the response from Queens Park and those who...

    "Let them eat cake".
How'd that work out in the end?

Ya I know .... Tom Houston boots , very tragic !!
I'm not sure how it factors in to what I said.
If you want to sell boots on Kingston Rd. Then go wild and sell boots.
If that doesn't pay what you want then close up and get your resume in to police , fire , ttc, hydro etc.
Or don't and complain on a forum about how much money they make.

P.S. I have a family member that has owned a store in that strip mall for over 30 years and makes a VERY good living.
Nice house place in Florida, 3 kids in university.

Yup, I grew up with him
Only in so much and I guess "both sides" are guilty of this.

There are those who say "well those is PS job X have to put up with this or that" and there are those who say " everyone in PS is a lazy deadbeat who just punch clocks and collect 100k a year".

So in this instance some are pointing at the numbers and you said "well they have to put up with the scum of the earth and sometimes the worst"....Thats true in all walks of life. See Tom. Big difference between Tom and that booth collector?
he put his capital at risk in owning a small business
He pays bills to run that business
    And a couple more.

Me, I might wonder why soooooo many fare collectors have that much OT. Could it be because the 905 subsidizes the city of TO who pay no-where near the same land taxes...Could it be, for other reasons?

If it doesn't pay what you want get off your lazy backside
Some/many for various reason may not be able to. See single moms........for just one example.
Some/many are more than capable of looking at what the govt spends, where...And see problems
Some/many are more than capable of looking at what the govt has blown and see Unions who..
    more that might be said.
Like what about EAs who do it because and can't get the time of day. People who work with special needs kids and don't earn 80k, let alone....What about the thousands of Nurses getting stiffed because many in PS themselves....wont admit, don't want to face...

And as always anyone who dares say boo about any of it.
And perhaps the most ironic thing in all of this?

It all started with Bob Rae......Guess some didn't learn the lesson the first time around...

Two true story's. I know someone who works in an office that hands out the welfare cheques, well one day the cheques did not come in on time. A recipient of said cheque found out they were not in and was very upset, reached into the back of her pants removed a handful of feces and proceeded to wipe and smear it all over the desk, phone and walls of the office, while trying to get at the office worker to wipe it on her as well. Police were called and she was removed, but the next day she was back, she had to be served in a cordial manner while given a cheque. Try that move in someone's private business and see where it gets you. A guy on my hockey team, was fired from the TTC for shoving a man to the ground, after the guy came up to him and spit in his face. No the union could not save his job. Just two tales of woe from lowly PS workers.

No church or religion should be tax exempt. Lots of cash to be had there.

Gord do you really think people in private don't have to it with crap to? Yellow grass?

True story. I know about 100 people. Many who don't want 100k. Well one day a few people did some things that might be questionable. Nothing different than 100 other banks were doing at the time. The authorities decided to make some examples.
200 people between different offices out of work, none have pensions, many likely/may not get severance packages.
    1 girl I work with. 54 years old. A house a mortgage, a daughter....
    /cry me a river
    /here's a fiddle

/points at small towns where unemployment is over 10%
/points at so much, not the least of which is all the animosity towards "PS". You think many many many people are unreasonable?

seriiusly, don't understand why people are incapable of looking around the province, seeing all the very many real problems. Tons of them, some small, some huge.most all are a result of $, or need $ to fix, etc etc. Incapable of remembering why they had to hire Drummond and many things he had to say, the auditor general, more

funny Bob Rae campaigned on big spending, lots of "pS" love. He delivered, credit downgrades followed, as did the social contract (lots of PS rebelled). Sound familiar? It should we're living it again......Mike Harris campaigned on "common sense" got in by a landslide because Rae had screwed up so bad. Harris put on tunnel vision and swung a heavy axe. Heck, when and "why" did the Sunshine list get spawned????

Lots of PS paid prices, cried loud, in the press and more. Funny that...so it ok for "ps" to make noise when...but no one else...shut up and like it?

enter McGuinty who like Harris before him had some things to try and fix...well we know how that went.

You'd think people might have learned the lessons.
its been nothing but problems, fighting, (at QP and between private/pub people) problems, fighting and more since.

    1 common denominator

    question Gord
where would you find the $ for
to hire 5,000 nurses, some people to help YD, SL,
to give EAs, and other raises to
to hire 1,000 COs and biologist
and on and on and on and on.

oh and let's not forget the economy, jobs in private and 300b debt
