    Default Training Birds

Anyone know of someone selling training birds in south western Ontario, I'm looking for chuckers, and quail. I know there is a big shortage but hoping to find a couple of home growers maybe.

Has anyone tried pigeons? Are they good to start a pup on? I ask as they easier to get in most cases.

They are the best bird to start pointing breed pups on. They take off fast and can't normally be caught. Only problem is that if you keep them in a pen more than 3?? days they don't fly as well. Can be bought at Trails End Market Auction, on the edge of London, on Saturdays. Depending on who's there , you can get them for a couple dollars. Choose the wild looking ones, not the other kind.Quail /chukar / pheasant are better for a more trained dog imo.

PS One Saturday a guy kept driving up the prices and ended up buying every pigeon available Curious, I asked him what he was doing with the birds. He said, "I'm releasing them; they deserve to be free."

By chance did you ask him where he was going to release them?

Pigeons are perfect for a pup ... And if you have a fishing net, flashlight and a barn you should be in luck!

kijiji usually has someone selling pigeons as well. I have a coop full of pigeons for mainly training and stock up from time to time if needed by a local pigeon fancier.

I get my pigeons from the bird auction in Woodstock. Live auction every Friday behind the slots. Prices range from 2 to 4 bucks a bird
