I am heading to Missinaibi for the long weekend and I have an extra day off work so I was going to go up on the Sultan industrial road and get bait in Sultan because I thinks Pits is closed . I was just wondering if the condition of the road is ok ( washouts ) and if anyone can point me in the direction of any good trout streams or rivers I could check out on the way up . You can PM me if you wish any advice will be greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance Pete

If you are going up 144 through the Watershed then across 560 the road will be passable. But its the long weekend, the road will be very dusty, probably lots of washboard and yahoos who won't have the brains to slow down when you meet. Count on numerous stone chips in the windshield and hood of the truck.
The best time to drive that stretch of road is early AM before the traffic gets going and there is still a dew on the road to keep the dust down.

Ha Ha, The Sultan Rd. I drove that once and went slow. Shook the light bulbs out of my trailer and lost a fender. I laugh but I'm not kidding. Got to the camp and had to find someone who could weld the fender back on the trailer.

There is a site for Sultan Road updates on face book that is usually up to date.

Bait in Sultan is wicked expensive ,8$ for a dozen leaches. 6$ for a dozen minnows. Get bait in Sudbury if at all possible.

Thanks for all the tips and advice everybody. Made it up and back with no incident ( other than a flat worn out tire lol) on the sultan road , but it was the last of the original tires on the truck with 70 000 on it so we kind of expected it to go and had 2 spares and a jack ready in the back . Made it to Missinaibi and had a good weekend catching lots of pickerel and pike and saw lots of bears on our way in and out between the park and Chapleau . I will have to prepare and get a setup for lake trout if I get to come up next spring . I was talking to some other visitors and they were doing good casting and long lining for them . Thanks again everybody . Really love the north and am glad I was able to make it up even though it was only for a couple days

Sorry I haven't checked in for a while , we went the Canadian way as one of our travellers didn't have a passport or enhanced drivers licence. I usually take the American way up north but it depends where I am going and I find it is pretty close to the same distance from Sarnia if you take the 144 and Sultan industrial road .

I came down 129 yesterday (left White Lake PP) I can see why folks would want to avoid it. After the "good pavement" ends it's not much better than a 500 series highway.

How was 144? We came down it 2 years ago and there was was lot of construction. Not wure if it was north or south of the truckstop.

144 was good at the time no construction at that time but that was the May 24 weekend
