Up home (Sioux Lookout, Ontario) some licensed First Nations members can sell game meat & fish. I know with the fish, you get a legal receipt that lets you carry/store more than any licence would allow. You have to keep that in your possession until you consume it all. You don't need a licence to buy either.
If you get the right paperwork from the seller, I'm sure you would not be in the wrong.
