She s half English setter so I figured I'd post anyway.
Than you qualify with my apologies. Looked like a poodle pointer to me and a nice one to boot. Nothing wrong with a mutt my last dog was an english setter/english pointer cross that was a woodcock's worst nightmare. Used a .410 that day to give them a sporting chance.

You're a darn good shot if you're shooting woodcock with a .410

Actually would rate myself mediocre shot at best. Thing is dog was a machine on woodcock. She would find and point them even if they weren't there some days thought of using a fly swatter. Her only weakness mouth like a vise grip render anything meatballs. So deal was she finds, points, locates fallen bird and I'd pick it up.

Nineteenth century dog writers called this cross a Dropper, and almost invariably panned its hunting abilities -- but they were all terrible breed snobs who thought the Clumber Spaniel was the best hunting breed going, so we can take them with a grain of salt. On the other hand, Droppers had enough fans that they actually had a name.

My first bird dog was a setter, defintely a bird finding machine ... maybe my next dog!! And since we are talking woodcock, here is a pic from 2013 (one of the best years for woodcock in recent times) ... pretty much trained Tessa on them that year as she wasy a very young pup that Fall.
