Level wind reel not winding level
Question for the experts here.
I have an Abu-Garcia 5001B level wind casting reel, When I loaded it with fresh line this evening, I noticed that it is winding more line on the right side than the left, to the point where the right side is level with the spool skirt and the left side i about 3/16" from the edge of the spool.
What is the cause and solution?
Also, does anyone have a solution for the spool tension adjuster from backing off and falling into the lake when I least expect it? Ive lost three of them in ten years. Maybe a bigger o-ring to increase friction?

The little pawl that moves the line back and forth might need replacing.
It is located inside the line guide system in the worm gear.

Ok. I looked at it, it looks to be in good shape. I might replace it for next season just to be sure. Probably change the spiral shaft as well, while I'm at it. I doubt those are expensive parts.

I have a Shimano trolling reel with line counter. Not a cheap reel. It does not have a line guiding system and simply relies on the free wheeling line guide that moves back and forth. When the line builds in one location the line guide will move to another location. Hasn't been a problem so far.

There is a big difference between your trolling reel and 35wailin's casting reel in their performance .

It's just the way you spooled the line. Strip it back onto a spool, and try again but try to hold perfectly centred and reel line on very slowly.

My second Tatula did that. I just got where I could let er out and crank her in a few times and all was good. Not perfect but don't have to be

The 2 notches in the level wind might have slipped out of place in the track on the guide. Any good reel repair shop will fix this on an Ambassadeur. Nothing to do with how you've spooled the reel
