Hey all.
Thought I'd give this a little bump as the time is getting closer.
Cheers.

You'll be hard pressed (if you can find some land to hunt in that area) to actually see anything until the leaves start to go down around Thanksgiving. The birds will likely be skittish so they'll either flush before you see them or walk away quietly before you see them and you wont even know they're there. 90% of the birds I shoot prior to mid-October are standing right in the centre of a trail and are dumb enough to not fly away immediately. Hunting grouse in leaves isnt easy.

If it was easy everybody would do it. A good dog does improve the odds though. With a season under her collar expecting good things this fall.
Time in the outdoors is never wasted

From Huntsville, its roughly 1.5hr drive up on Hwy 11 to North Bay - between the stretch of NB and Temagami is aprox another hour drive that will offer access to good number of trails on both sides of the hwy. One could tie up the entire day exploring those areas ......

Did some searching. There is some crown land not too far from where we're going. May make the attempt if I can sneak away from the wife and kids.
