Thread: Spruce Grouse around Kemptville?

    Surprised actually for all the years I have had out trail cams and the quantity of grouse I see I have very rarely captured a pic of one on the trail cam. Maybe there are to small to trigger them.

    I had a pair that would come out every evening before dark, sounding like herd of hippo's coming across the dead leaves to take a few grains of corn and then head back into the cedars. They make far more noise than a 200lb deer.

    I hate it when your walking home in the dark and you jump one on the side of the trail, scares the bejesus out of you

    How often do you guys see these with a colour phase like this?

    Every one I have ever shot has been more khaki to brown than dark.

    The photo has a strong blue cast which probably makes the bird look darker than it is. Typical of a photo taken in shade on a sunny day. A colour-corrected version would probably look a lot browner.

    Ruff...I hunted around kemptville for 30yrs for grouse..no Sprucies.... there was the occasional sharp tail near Winchester going back 30 yrs ago and used to be good hun hunting around Kemptville as well mind you..
