A few days Grouse hunting

Hit the road with a few others early Thurs for 3 days of Grouse, somewhere north of the GTA. While we didn't see the numbers we were hoping for, we certainly didn't get skunked.

Thurs the rain let up just long enough to get camp set up, eat dinner then rained rest of the night.



Friday
dawned frosty and damp

Then it was off to log some kms on the boots.

Back at camp and soaking it all up and in.




Saturday
Dawned clear and cold


Walked more kms, then back at camp it was time to warm up and take a load off and enjoy the little things.





Sunday dawned even colder, so it was we broke camp and made our ways home with lots of memories.

As an avid photography I appreciate those pictures! Especially the night shots!

Also good that you didn't get skunked! I haven't been out this year, too much foliage still on the trees so I am waiting until thanksgiving to go out.

I have been reading quite a bit on the forum on how the grouse up here are sporadic this year and some folks have not been seeing many.
I have been out since Sept 15 and can tell you that location is everything.Get deep in the backwoods and stay off main trails for those of you coming up north.I assure you there are lots of birds out there.Ruffed,Spruce ,Sharpies.and woodcock.

I have been out since Sept 15 and can tell you that location is everything.Get deep in the backwoods and stay off main trails for those of you coming up north.I assure you there are lots of birds out there.Ruffed,Spruce ,Sharpies.and woodcock.

Numbers this year seemed to be down. Given the number of folks we saw on Saturday, it's becoming fairly clear that Shining Tree is receiving significant pressure from folks from areas like Sudbury etc.

Going off trail is always the best bet, except with so much foliage on the trees right now, it was a non-starter.
