Anyone managed to have trespassers charged?

It's shotgun week here, and all the 1 week a year hunters have filled the woods. Once again, opening day, 5 orange slob hunters in one of our clearly marked and fenced properties. Opened the gate and let themselves in.

Has anyone gone through the process of having someone charged? What's involved? I'm tired of this happening year in and year out. Especially when these slobs argue with you and refuse to leave.

Call the police and MNRF. Take down licence plate numbers and good descriptors of the trespassers. Tell the responding LEOs that you want charged laid, and you are prepared to attend court if necessary.

That's kinda what I was wondering. Does the land owner need to attend court?

In most cases yes, unless you have been formally made an agent for that property. Of course the landowner or agent need not appear in court if they pay the fine !!

It never ceases to amaze me how blatantly bold people are to trespass on someones land. And argue with you when you ask them to leave ?!

It's hard to have them charged,but,well worth it to "send the message" because they'll whine and cry and b**ch. The important thing is that they'll do all that to their friends who are likely the same sort,so,the word gets around pretty quick. Unfortunately,the ticket is only $200. If it was $1K for a first offense and $3K if caught again,these a**holes would think a lot harder before pulling their BS.

In this case, it was arguing with my 70 year old mother who noticed the open gate. The usual, claiming someone gave them permission. "We're only hunting today"
"no one else hunts in here so why does it matter"
"what's the big deal, there's no livestock in here".
This is a section of bush we own that even I've never hunted. I try to keep it as a sanctuary and it tends to hold matriarchal does.
Oh, and they had a deer down that they claimed was shot on another property and died on ours.
