Silencing your Safety Harness

There’s little worse in deer hunting than spending long hours in a tree stand just to bust a deer with the raspy sound a safety harness can make sliding across tree bark. Covering the safety attachment strap with wool solves that problem.

Women’s woollen leg-warmers from the dollar store have done the trick for me. Sew both leggings end to end to create enough length to cover the strap.

To prevent the leggings from bunching up at one end, I lightly tacked them at both ends with some thread. I must emphasize lightly tacked, as the safety strap must be allowed the freedom to break the tacking and perform as it was designed. Hunting without a safety harness is gambling with your future. But hunting with a quiet one is gambling with a deer’s.
