With hunting season getting underway, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and the OPP are asking hunters to take precaution while in the woods.

More than 612,000 hunting licences are sold annually in Ontario, generating approximately $28.4 million in sales.

The two groups remind hunters that there are a number of things that can be done to do keep themselves, and those around them, safe.

  • Wear hunter orange even when not legally required.
  • Handle firearms with care — treat every firearm as though it is loaded.
  • Never shoot unless you’re sure of your target and what lies beyond it.
  • Don’t drink alcohol while hunting.
