My father and a neighbour split on a Champion log splitter a few years ago. They are happy with it now but had lots of trouble (they thought) with the engine when they first got it.
On their unit, the engine kept shutting off all the time, they found out that it was the low oil sensor kept tripping and shutting down the engine. My dad is pretty handy and I have no doubt that the oil level was reading close to full on the dipstick, but it just needed an extra ounce or so and the problem went away. Keep that in mind....
