Nice Splitter, But I only use one every two years and I block up 20 face, so I rent it from the rental company which the owner just happens to be across the street. He charges me 100 for Friday - Sunday.
In 12 years of heating with wood at this place I have rented it 5 times so far and will rent again this year to do 20 face. So in my case not really worth to buy one as it still would not have paid for itself yet.
One year I did split most of the wood with the maul just to say I could.

They certainly are a back saving piece of equipment and if looked after will last a lifetime.
If you have the unit I suspect you will have a semi clear plastic feed line on the bottom for the hydraulic oil, be careful. The line is in a bad place and easy to catch on brush or stumps causing a kink or even worse, breakage.

My woodlot is mostly pine, spruce, poplar and a bit of ash that the bugs have killed so it should be up for the task.
My father and a neighbour split on a Champion log splitter a few years ago. They are happy with it now but had lots of trouble (they thought) with the engine when they first got it.
On their unit, the engine kept shutting off all the time, they found out that it was the low oil sensor kept tripping and shutting down the engine. My dad is pretty handy and I have no doubt that the oil level was reading close to full on the dipstick, but it just needed an extra ounce or so and the problem went away. Keep that in mind....

So far the Champion engine works great, starts first or second pull every time. Just make sure you shut the gas flow off and run the gas out of it when you’re done. I only use Shell premium non ethanol gas in all my small engines.
