Down here you don't have to identify yourself to a cop unless you have committed a crime - being stopped for no reason smells like the Nazi Germany - if you are driving and have been pulled over because of a traffic violation you must show him your driver's license, registration and proof of insurance - that's it - the question I have is who gave cops this right to identify you guys -
Don’t even have to do that, unless you are committing or being investigated for committing an offence. Driving is a different requirement to identify, licence ownership and proof of insurance, as I’m sure everyone is aware. The “carding” issue pretty much eliminated that requirement to identify when arbitrarily stopped...Quote:

That's interesting. Most folks I know are always discouraged when we hear or read about how, so many times, the police are reactive to crime. But when the police try to be proactive, they are loathed. So I suppose if someone stole your vehicle from your workplace, at 02:00, you wouldn't be upset that a cop didn't stop them to check on things?Quote:

If my car was stolen it would be reported until then there is no right to pull somebody over for simply driving down the road obeying the speed limits and road rules.
In the OPP there is a huge range or personalities and attitudes, some will warn and some will just ticket even if they know it won't stand to make you go to court and waste a day. Long story I will skip it but even 30 years ago I remember the head of the local OPP detachment talking about some of the new officers didn't need the upcoming training, he always made sure that a "goose stepper" was transferred somewhere else. His comment was that they were useless for a small community detachment, well they ended up somewhere and I know I ran into one last year for sure *.
