They are all released birds, it is actually surprising that any of them make it but some do.
I had one scare the crap out me while out bow hunting deer down in SW Ontario, in an area without a normal released hunt.

Bobwhite quail are native to the area, but there was also birds released for the purpose of hunting back a long time ago now, in WMU 65. They stopped allowing hunting of Northern Bobwhites a few years back now, so they may be expanding from the native or released birds that never were shot. Either that or they escaped or were released from a farm.
Drifting off topic a bit but I used to train my GSP by releasing quails in a field of WMU 65 about 35 years ago. I had a call back cage setup but for various reasons the odd one would not always return. So, small populations have been established over the years.
Horseshoe valley 1996ish. In a ditch as I drove by I saw a Pheasant. We need more.
I see a few pheasants every year. They are defintely not wild as they aren't too bright. I imagine a lot of cats get them if hawks or coyotes don't find them first. Defintely too stupid to survive very long in the bush.

Very likely an escape pheasant from a hunting release or dog training exercise.
As a kid in King township back in the 70’s and into the 80’s we had them running around pretty regular. Don’t know where they came from. We had plenty of Jack’s back then also!
