Why would that matter. If I’m an upland hunter I could walk around the deer woods with a shotgun regardless if it’s bow only season for deer? Now if you have slugs in your vest then your playing with fire. I think having the gun in a case while your bow is out is fine.

While bow hunting for deer no firearm allowed. Just like not able to carry slug or shot larger than BB without a biggame license during an open season for biggame one cannot possess a firearm cased or not while bowhunting deer.

Could you explain? I though they aren't considered firearms if they're under 500 fps.

Extract below from ON hunting regs - would be beneficial in the field to take the time to go thru the regs first .....

For example, when hunting deer during a bows-only season, you may only use and carry bow hunting equipment. Specifications on the firearms, ammunition, arrows and broadheads that are permitted when hunting deer are found in the general regulations section.

General regs section lists the firearms that include pellet guns too. During big game rifle season, one may in addition, carry/use a pellet gun (rifle or pistol for small game) with a velocity under 500 FPS. Obviously, not allowed during Bows only season.

The under 500fps issue is a regulation under the Firearms Act and CCC. It’s basically regulatory, dealing with licensing registration etc. However, they are still deemed as firearms for the various sections under the CCC, like point firearm, possession for the purpose, assault with a weapon etc, etc. As previously noted, they are also Firearms as defined in the FWCA….. clear as mud !!!?

I'm referring to bowhunting for deer during a bow only season.

Read the regs, you cannot possess a firearm while bowhunting for deer during a bow only season.
