Sighting a Rifle at 25m for a 100m zero

Yes one dealer close has .270 120gr on shelf. Just noticed closer dealer has 100gr on the shelf. I’m going to get box of 100gr to try out $32 a box

Make sure that you are using a bullet that is actually designed for the game you are planning to hunt though, a 100gr GMX for deer, fine but many of the 100gr bullets in that caliber are varmint bullets and will be too lightly constructed for deer.

That's a very important observation. I have a Ruger M 77 .270Win rigged for varmint/predator light weight loads sighted in for 1MOA @ 200M and a Rem 700 .270Win rigged for big game heavy loads 1MOA @ 200M. When taking both to the range and switching bullet loads,with the exact same hold,the difference is as much as 3MOA. When holding free hand or a not so steady rest (tree limb or fence rail) other than a bipod,the difference is even greater. To me,it's very important to not mix up ammo boxes when heading out (don't laugh,it's happened.)

Most scopes now you can reset the turrets. If you zero your gun with your big game load, reset your turrents to zero them, then sight in with the sporting ammo. Make a label for your load with the turret info and you can always go back there. Of course you need to verify before going hunting but it will get you back to where you should be if your scope does not break.

I have a 6.5x55mm mauser and part of me wants to load up some high BC match bullets that will also work for varmints and just adjust this way to go between the 2. I just have to make sure that I do not use bullets that look the same, so my hunting bullet is an ELD-X, I cannot go with an ELD-M as I may mix them up. The Nosler RDF 140gr would smack them and fragment like crazy but a lighter bullet would get there a bit faster and bit a hint flatter.

You have to sight in at 100 to know where it hits at 100. Personally 3006 I sight 3" high at 100 gives me point blank out to 300.

That,too,works very well. In fact,my .30-06Sprg is set like that for shooting across swamps and on hydro lines. At ranges of 100M,I find it's easier to adjust the aim point than continually mess with turret settings. I'm a big believer in "set it and forget it".
