An all out ban on Moose hunting in most WMU's might be warranted however it would bankrupt the MNR in lost revenue.

See Quebec Moose regulation status/hunt success rates AND numbers harvested. Each year.They are Light year ahead in this,and they KNOW what needs to be done.

Calf hunting should be totally banned.Period.

Lol. You must have no idea how many moose are taken at almost anytime of the year by them. Many have given up on the hunt completely due to tag availability, lack of moose, etc.. Cows need to be harvested for balance in any herd.Quote:

These comments are completely the opposite of what I heard from two of my friends that are full time commercial bush pilots out of Nakina and Thunder Bay. Between the two of them, they pretty much fly all of the wmu's in north, NE, amd NW Ontario, on a daily basis. Both report that their daily aerial sightings of moose are more than 70% down from 8-10 years ago. Some areas that were formerly the highest densities (eg. around T. Bay) are more than 90% down. Areas around Gogama and Timmins, Long Lac, etc are almost devoid of moose now according to them. They also both own their own planes on floats, and they even report that they're having some tough hunts and have even been unable to fill their own personal tags in the past couple of years, even after flying into remote areas.Pretty bad when you have your own float plane and can't find a moose to put in the freezer!Quote:
