I hope there are just no calf or cow tags, that would be a proper benefit to the population.

My last tag was part of a group in 2011 as well. I have 6 points as I missed a few years when I had given up on the moose hunt but started again a couple years ago when my brother bought a property. Still will never draw one likely but at least its only $15 now. We just came back from a bird hunt, talking to a few of his neighbors that had drawn moose tags this year, 1 was 5 years between tags and another was 18.
Yes I almost gave up a few times also but kept applying anyways. Luckily my two nephews were coming down and this was the only reason why.
It’s hard to believe someone never got drawn since 1993? Anxious to see the draw stats.
At my age, I’m sure I will hopefully only get one more tag. It will be nice to have a tag where my camp is.
My guess would be-same as Guaranteed group size+/- 15 % for 2021.
For the No guaranteed Group size WMU-s they will judge based on "available"moose versus 2020 applicants.
The MNRF will learn in 2021what is going on with the new system and what is the repsonse-outcome, and then will make the adjustments for 2022 which will be the "real one",for some times.
But this thing with points will be a"moving target" ,a whole lot more ,then the Group allocation was.
Just my theory.
It would be nice if they only took the points that the animal costs from you balance rather then resetting to 0.
I figure i have 17 pts or so and would rather spread it out on calf tags then blowing them all on a bull but thats not an option.
I think it will depend on who applies and the number of points each applicant has. Tags should to those who have the most points in a descending order until all tags have been allocated. In the case where there are more hunters with the same amount of points and a few tags remains, the draw will be the tie-breaker.
I'll play....20+ for sure.
the real question for most of us is, how many years will it take to chew through the 20+‘s, then how many more to chew through those that currently hold 15+?
lets look at wmu 48 for a better example. 33 adult tags, 1063 pool 1 apps (adult tags combined). 27 total points possible. because years don't need to be consecutive, and because of the previous group system, in an area like 48 there will be lots with 20+ points and a great many more with 15+ (I’ll speculate 20% of moose hunters in 48 hold 15+.
As a pure guess just looking at the #'s, Itll probably take 15-25 years to chew through the hunters who currently have more than 12 points
because every unsuccessful applicant receives a point, the pecking order of those in waiting won’t change much over the next decade at least. That is to say, If youre 3/4 of the way down the list of a thousand now, you will still be 3/4 of the way down the list of 670 people a decade from now.
Well looking at my draw history, I have 21 points currently. Hopefully I'll receive a tag in the near future. All the years I applied as part of a group, I never received a tag, while at least 2 members got picked twice.
We filled a bull and a cow tag this year. I suspect our group is pretty much done. Glad we had a good last year !!
