50 yards is nothing with a 22LR, I used to shoot cream of mushroom soup cans at 100 yards with a Cooey 82 and iron sights, we would also shoot starlings sitting in the pasture with a 22LR at 100 yards with a 2.5x scope, that rifle is a BSA Supersport Five. I never said run and get down the hole, I said they would make it down the hole, normally they are sitting on the mound of their hold and just turn and fall in to the hole. The 222 Rem is a lot more messy with a groundhog at 100 yards but saying the 22LR is not a valid groundhog gun at 100 yards is a joke.
