Remember the clearance on a solid rear axle and an IRS(independent rear suspension)is missleading. Solid will not sag down like an IRS will when the rider and gear gets aboard. IRS soakes up the bumps very well for trail riding but for work can't beat the solid axle.Quote:

If you do any sport riding, ground clearance is everything. You'll discover this quickly enough as I did with my 2008 Artic Cat 700 TRV LE (two rider). Due to it's longer wheelbase and lower GC (9 inches I believe it was) I was getting hung up on everything because the TRV's have lower GC than the two rider Cats. I added a two inch lift and larger tires and what a difference in the way she goes over and through things. Now I have ground clearance but still maintain stability for steep inclines and descents due to the longer wheel base.
Since 09 (when I purchased my machine used with 500 km's) my insurance has been $300 a year.
robster Thank you I had not put much thought into the suspension. So as this would be an all around machine I think the solid axle would be the way to go. Yes I would be doing some ruff trails or no trail but it would only be enough to get me to an area to park and hunt or scout. Yes if I was constantly trail riding I think I may go the other way with independent but for the limited use of the machine I can put up with a bit of discomfort as well as less parts that could break. but if the independent would be better performing in ruff terrain and over hill and dale and logs and rock I would go that route. But once again I don't know these things.
