Boy, now what do we do? Masks won't stop it now! Everyone has to hold their breath for at least 14 days, that ought to help.
The whole thought process behind their claim is complete rubbish (as the Brits would say). We have no concrete spread data on the original strain or we would know how to stop it dead and someone is supposed to believe they have a second strain figured.....

I realize Liberals won't like this but at some time no matter what life will have to go on. We cannot stay shut down forever.
Personally I am enjoying this. My wife can't spend as much and it looks like our European Cruise will be put on hold for another year. Woo Hoo I don't have to spend that 8000 bucks.
To be honest not much has changed for me. I work from home now, I still go hunting and do my own thing.
The Province of Ontario is being shut down by a Conservative premier and a Conservative majority government. Who should we blame? I think he is doing what he thinks is necessary. Tough call. Dammed if they do, dammed if they don't. Same for me, a couple of overseas vacation's and my three hockey teams seasons postponed, other than that, much the same. I guess I should be ashamed.
It is interesting that from the UK they put in screening and restrictions, they never put in restrictions for Chinese travellers and the screening didn't start until almost April, 2 months after they said they would start it. A neighbour of mine came back from visiting family in Africa end of February and said every airport even the little ones they were at were screening, then he got to Canada... he wasn't pleased with the lies and incompetence.

My neighbour came back from Kenya near the end of February or early March .... every little airport there had screening, but none when he got back to Canada and it sounds like there still isn't any. At work I was talking to someone and they said right now to visit her mom who is having some health problems in China they have to be tested 2 days before, screened before and after, 2 weeks quarantine then she could fly in country to see her mom.Quote:

This is probably 8th major mutation of the virus, the Next Strain was tracking 6 a few months ago and I saw on one other med company pages they are now tracking 8 mutations. V1 to V6 (also called 19A, 19B, 20A, 20B and 20C) had a transmission rate of 1.1 and the new one is running about 1.5 so significantly higher but how huge and there is no evidence of it being anything different other than easier to spread but even the ones they already were tracking the differences were TBD.Quote:

Way back in March, which seems like a lifetime ago. A friend, who is a GP ( specialty Geriatric's) was asked to head up a Covid Team. They were going to set up a "ward" at Ontario Shores Whitby. It's a mental health facility. It was to be her in charge, and if I recall two RNs and two RPNs. They did not get hit hard. But they were really just supposed to be palliative. Worded differently, the place people were sent to die, so the ICUs could be for those with a chance.
Both my fiance and I have had to go to Lakeridge Health "recently" for cancer screening stuff. It was a ghost town relatively speaking. I have heard of people who had had pretty important surgeries, put off, re-scheduled more than once. And in fact, when it looked like I had Cancer again this time last year. Certain test got pushed way back.
IMO, the "threat" to various health units is real. The problem as ever is elsewhere (see paragraph above) and a serious lack of funds. That, and well if you have a problem in one region, that doesnt mean it exist elsewhere and you need to bring the hammer down everywhere. Furthermore, while some in the unions squawked back in the Spring, Ford with co-operation changed the collective agreement, such that hospital boards could change staffing levels. Send people where they were needed and they had no say. See also many in healthcare somewhat idle since April.
So not sure what the problem is.

Our mandatory travel passport is probably not far behind!
So what is the answer to not requiring a health passport? Is shutting down international travel forever, possible? How would we otherwise prove , people are safe to move across boarders? We have nearly 3 million Canadians living abroad, should they not be allowed to return home? Should we be building enough internment camps to hold them all for 14 days, if they desire to come home?

If you do not trust others coming to Canada , without proof of testing or vaccinations, should other countries , even air lines, cruse ships, not be able to do the same. No health passport, ( vaccination), or certified proof of good health, ( antibodies), then you will not be able to travel outside the country. It seems like a reasonable requirement from the country you are trying to enter. If unwilling to do so, it sounds like you will spend the rest of your life within our boarders. Your choice to make.

Okay.. Yes, we should be able to use our passports. I have not heard that an electronic tracking devise will be mandatory. Yes the passport idea will save money, the price of printing a separate vaccination card, to enable international travel, but billions ? If you have to produce proof of vaccination in Canada, for various reasons, many Canadians do not have a passport, should we make them get one?. Now answer mine.

Everybody seems to be forgetting that viruses change and mutate, essentially becoming "new variants" all the time. By April there were at least 30 variants of COVID-19 already identified. Why is this new variant making all the news? I think it's because people are starting to disregard public health rules so we need something to get people back in line. A "more contagious new variant" might do that.
If you want to put any faith in actual science, this virus (whatever variant you like) is already around 5x easier to catch now than it was in the summer because of the drop in relative humidity (RH). There are other studies like this one out there, humidity is a real factor in transmission, but this isn't being talked about.

Why is information like this being ignored? If you take relative humidity into account for a climate like Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba... "continental" climate, you can see why we had an easy summer and are now struggling with "case counts". The air itself has made the virus easier to catch, and it goes hand in hand with how other cold and flu viruses work when things get cool and dry.
Viruses have worked to become more efficient at what they do since the dawn of life on the planet, a "new variant" is not news. This virus came from an animal originally, it makes total evolutionary sense that it would become more efficient at infecting humans after successfully making the initial jump. The knee jerk response to "curb the spread of the new variant" is ridiculous.

None of this can be implemented until everyone has access to the vaccine so that's probably a couple years down the line. Any business that starts demanding papers is probably cutting it's own throat. There are some businesses talking the talk right now but it is virtue signaling. When it comes down to it, money talks and BS walks. These businesses will probably look to the already broke governments to cover the shortfall. Government bailouts can never replace a healthy free market.
The other thing that needs to happen for this to work is they need to drag these lockdowns out for a couple years and probably through an election in most countries.
There will also be privacy issues that will have to work their way through the courts. Not just our legal system but other legal systems around the world. Everyone needs to be on board for this to work.

On PCR tests
These are severe design errors, since the test cannot discriminate between the whole virus and viral fragments. The test cannot be used as a diagnostic for SARS-viruses.
Furthermore, the absence of the HE gene in both SARS-CoV1 and SARS-CoV-2 makes this gene the ideal negative control to exclude other coronaviruses. The Corman-Drosten paper does not contain this negative control, nor does it contain any other negative controls. The PCR test in the Corman-Drosten paper therefore contains neither a unique positive control nor a negative control to exclude the presence of other coronaviruses. This is another major design flaw which classifies the test as unsuitable for diagnosis.
Clearly, the RT-PCR test used around the world, on its own, is in effect garbage. It produces large amounts of “positives” that do not correspond to any viable infectious virus, SARS-CoV-2 or other. This is only partly remedied if laboratories limit themselves to Ct<30, not to mention the large potential for other bad laboratory practices in the field.
Add to this the public health dishonesty of fabricating a new definition of what constitutes a “case”. A “case” is defined in medicine as an active, symptomatic and diagnosed infection. Not any more: Any “positive” in the faulty RT-PCR “test” is now counted as a “case”. The mass RT-PCR testing campaign of the general asymptomatic population, which has no clinical or epidemiological utility, thereby feeds media propaganda of fear, and disastrous consequences: Garbage-RT-PCR → meaningless-“cases” → propaganda → arbitrary-measures/great-harm → popularity of leaders.
On masks
On 18 November 2020, Bundgaard et al. [30] published their large randomized controlled trial (RCT) of participants selected from the general Danish population. In their words:
A total of 3030 participants were randomly assigned to the recommendation to wear masks, and 2994 were assigned to control; 4862 completed the study. Infection with SARS-CoV-2 occurred in 42 participants recommended masks (1.8%) and 53 control participants (2.1%). The between-group difference was −0.3 percentage point (95% CI, −1.2 to 0.4 percentage point; P = 0.38) (odds ratio, 0.82 [CI, 0.54 to 1.23]; P = 0.33). Multiple imputation accounting for loss to follow-up yielded similar results. Although the difference observed was not statistically significant, the 95% CIs are compatible with a 46% reduction to a 23% increase in infection. (Abstract / Results) […] a recommendation to wear a surgical mask when outside the home among others did not reduce, at conventional levels of statistical significance, incident SARS-CoV-2 infection compared with no mask recommendation. […] The face masks provided to participants were high-quality surgical masks with a filtration rate of 98% ref]. (Discussion)
To be clear, “95% CIs are compatible with a 46% reduction to a 23% increase in infection” means that, within the bounds of uncertainty, wearing a mask could have increased the likelihood of being infected by 23%. Such is the nature of relative risk evaluation, when the comparative impact on absolute risk is too miniscule to be detected.
On the vaccines. I believe the ADE issue covers mRNA vaccines as well as traditional vaccines.
On 13 July 2020, an important reality check was published by Arvin et al. [33] in the pages of the leading scientific journal Nature, in the form of an extensive “Perspective” (review). The paper, on careful reading, is a detailed exposé about human ignorance regarding artificial interference with the human immune system. Any student of science should conclude that “we mostly don’t know anything”. The authors state this in embellished form as [33]:
Antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE) of disease is a general concern for the development of vaccines and antibody therapies because the mechanisms that underlie antibody protection against any virus have a theoretical potential to amplify the infection or trigger harmful immunopathology. This possibility requires careful consideration at this critical point in the pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Scary times.
In my very uneducated opinion (so it won't cost you anything) herd immunity is probably a good thing to a certain degree for less then a year, then the virus will have mutated enough just like almost EVERY OTHER VIRUS DOES and you will not be protected until your body builds up new antibodies. We still get the flu, colds, and whatever every year, we have vaccines guessed at every year and injected into bodies and it never ends.
Lockdowns will slow the spread to a certain degree, but is it really worth the emotional and financial damages this will entail.
I am not really happy that people who are not in the least bit directly affected with financial ruin and are probably even becoming more secure financially because of a lockdown with their investments are making these decisions that are ruining 10s if not 100s of thousands of middle income people and families.
