That data included things like demographics, vital signs, laboratory test results, use of hospital resources like ventilators, and outcomes of their hospital stay — whether they died in hospital, needed intensive care, or were re-admitted.

The findings from the Canadian study were similar to results recently reported in France and the United States, the CMAJ says.

"We can now say definitively that COVID-19 is much more severe than seasonal influenza," Verma said in a release.

No matter which way they "spin" it,fatality rates are still infinitesimally small overall,especially,if separate stats from Toronto are excluded from the provincial total. Shutdowns,lockdowns and travel bans should have been geographical specific,restricted to areas of highest infection rates. Province-wide lockdowns have done far more damage than the pandemic,itself.

That is not the signature of a pandemic. 1.5x !!! They've destroyed the economy for the slight chance to may get more sick from Covid that the annual Flu..

There are many reasons why a person is placed in ICU or on a ventilator. Covid / Influenza is only one of them.
Remember, the way they have been testing with the faulty PCR skews data. They may tell you that you have Covid but not necessarily the main reason for your hospital visit.

There are 6.2 million people in the GTA. The rise in a couple of hundred hospital stays is insignificant.

Why are ventilators used?
■ To deliver high concentrations of oxygen into the lungs.
■ To help get rid of carbon dioxide.
■ To decrease the amount of energy a patient uses on
breathing so their body can concentrate on fighting
infection or recovering.
■ To breathe for a person who is not breathing because of
injury to the nervous system, like the brain or spinal cord, or
who has very weak muscles.
■ To breathe for a patient who is unconscious because of a
severe infection, build up of toxins, or drug overdose.

They don't want to mention that people admitted to the ICU for covid-19 have an average of 2.6 co-morbidities. "He was a healthy boy" meanwhile having type two diabetes and a BMI of 40+ with chronic asthma... They also don't want to mention that 1.6% of people who take the Pfeizer vaccine have grade 3 adverse effects, which means severe symptoms that may require hospitalization. You're basically more likely as a healthy person to get sick from the vaccine than the virus itself.

I'm not an anti-vaxxer by any means, quite the opposite infact. But labotamites that are afraid to have any original thoughts will be quick to call you one if you say anything against the covid vaccine. If you have pulmonary or cardiac co-morbidities or are obese, by all means you should probably get the vaccine. But someone who isn't vitamin deficient and relatively in shape will be perfectly fine...

They've had dozens of stories about how the Covid virus was adversely affecting 'racialized' communities..but not one mention they were also the most unhealthy ..diabetes, obesity, drug user etc etc.

There is a lot wrong with the way this 'pandemic' was covered on MSM. Purposely slanted to instil fear to gain compliance with restrictions. Good to see studies are being doen (like at the link) that cut thru the BS.

You got that right! Up here we figured we would get the green light to re-open Wednesday, but had the rug pulled out from under us when it was told we wouldn't because there was one active case in the health unit, and it was the UK variant. The case was resolved the day after the announcement, but how can lockdown be justified in a sparsely populated area that covers over 14,000 square kilometers, because of one case? If they use that same criteria in Toronto, they will never be out of lockdown.

A message from the WHO could still be a few years until everyone gets a vaccine they say .

I guess just let if run its course after that? I mean there is no evidence of the vaccine stopping the virus from spreading .

So everyone still has to pass the virus along without showing as many symptoms?

February 22 supposed to be for York region is it not ? I hope they don't delay it even more.

What area are you in ? That sucks 1 case and keeping it closed how long another week. ?

I'd also like you guys to know that Doug Ford is the owner of his family business Deco which is in the business of labeling and packaging material for Amazon shipments (among others). And has benefited greatly from the lockdown and has not been closed. Looks like Doug just needed one more week of cash grabbing to afford a house in the Carribean.
I guess after Trudeau broke the conflict of interest laws it wasn't a law anymore?

I'm in the Timiskaming region, which includes New Liskeard, Timmins, and Kirkland Lake.

I get it Mike, and yes a lot of the time I think the cure (closures etc) has been worse than the disease, but consider IF the numbers of cases had gotten out of control badly and there were not enough ventilators or ICU beds...THEN I think you may have seen the mortality rate go up significantly....the death rates have been low because they’ve been able to treat all cases adequately ?

My mom's up that way she said it was supposed to be lifted, guess that did happen . I think the ski hill was supposed to open today . Haven't talked to her since the beginning of week but apparently they were looking for volunteers for this weekend . Will give her a call tomorrow ..

I really hope they open soon

Your right, but it's really more an issue of the failings in our Health Care than in the ramifications of the virus. Ottawa has over 80 ICU beads beds and at the peak of the '2nd wave' they never had more than 11 ICU patients with Covid in ICU beds. They've averaged well below that at around 5-6 a week. They were never stressed to a point of collapse anymore than they normally are with a run of the seasonal influenza.

I still look at other country's like Sweden who took the more logical approach and basically let the virus run its course while protecting the most vulnerable. They had more cases of the virus, but their economy and educational systems etc did not suffer greatly. In the end their population now has a greater herd immunity (people recovered from the actual virus) and now they will do better against the virus and will recover faster not having to wait for immunisation.

Yes the social distancing efforts paid off, they always do when the flu hits...you or you kids get sick stay home. Slows down the community/work place spread. But those efforts didn't have to be imposed on 100% of the population.

It might be noted, but I haven't seen the numbers...that most of the wave of outbreaks that have occurred weren't from getting sick from being out shopping, it was while families got together to celebrate a holiday.

The ski hills in this area have reopened this week. The adjustment of the March Break into mid April sure won't be welcome news for the hills.

Restrictions are slightly being lifted here in Ottawa next Tuesday, the day after family day. Yes, the virus is intelligent enough to know which day of the week it is.
The stores will be operational again. Your family is a threat to you but multiple strangers handling goods in a store is not?

Pretty much my take on it as well.
In time, we will know more about "long Covid" and or permanent organ damage.

Bad enough to take seriously? Yep
Bad enough to cripple the economy and knowingly throw hundreds of thousands under the bus?
Bad enough for blanket policies that affect every region, rather than dealing with the problem?
Bad enough for blanket policies that affect everyone, when really it just the vulnerable at risk?
When you consider some of the options, for protecting the vulnerable. Not all that hard, nor expensive relatively speaking.

It's not surprising that they've doubled down lately with their fear campaign as we've hit the expected role out of a years worth of data.
I find it interesting that Quebec is under curfew and they even extended it I think.
Maybe if Trudeau cant go out he doesn't want his province to go out either.
