Will you sell your banned guns to the Government or keep them?

Just curious what people are thinking and if they are even effected by this overreach or not. Are you going to surrender your guns in this buy back program or not? Legally you are not required to participate in the program - you can keep them as a collector and pass on the buy back program. Even through they may never (legally) see the light of day again I like the idea of showing how much of a failure this program is, and will be worth the price of admission to listen to the snowflake Liberal anti's moan and cry when they see the number of guns that were NOT turned in - and that is just the guns they know about.

I have two firearms that are effected (restricted and non-restricted). I am keeping one of them and may hand one in depending on what they are going to offer me. If they think they are going to be buying Colt AR's for $1,300 they need their heads examined. I can see people bringing guns in and when they say we will offer you $xxx then people saying naw.......for that much I'll keep it thanks.

Worth a try, there was a guy, in the US, that was making zip guns (pipe, spring, nail wood) and selling back to the city for I think it was $300 each.

Glue a handgrip on and that should do it, they have added over 300 more to the 1,500 that no one even knows what they are. In the one interview I saw the one man being interviewed pointed out his daughter's pink .22 rifle was now prohibited, he had just found out. Imagine if they had gone to the range with that and got caught.... illegal transport and a half dozen other charges probably, and a 10K legal bill. Needless to say I signed up for the CCFR legal defence plan this week.

Then the RCMP reclassified 354 firearms (and counting) as Prohibited, knowing full well that the thousands of licensed firearm owners who possess these firearms have no legal protection from criminal charges.

This is how the RCMP, Bill Blair and Justin Trudeau keep Canadians safe? By sacrificing those who obey all laws and follow every regulation to the letter?

Are the owners of these newly prohibited (and non-amnestied) firearms going to face criminal charges if they try to turn the firearms in to the authorities?

This once again illustrates the total lack of respect for licensed RCMP-vetted firearm owners displayed since Bill Blair and Justin Trudeau took office.

This can’t possibly end well for our community.

There are three main options: Keep it illegally, register it and never be able to sell or use it again or turn it in for a government cheque. Were I still the owner of a POS Mini-14 it would be turned in and the money spent on a rifle that I could use.

I don't own any "banned guns". If I did,I'd keep them until the Liberals get banned. That's the only "ban" I'm interested in.

I don't think they'll make an offer and then you can decide on take it or leave it. I think they'll take your gun and offer you a tax credit on what they estimate it's value is. Some will only turn in receivers and others the entire rifle, so It'll be interesting how that is dealt with. I expect they will move to have all the non restricted banned guns registered so they'll know where and how many there are. I'm sure there are a pile Ruger Mini's out there. Blows me away that they'll let you keep these banned guns if you promise not to use them. Shows how completely ridiculous this entire dog and pony has become.!!

It's the gun owner version of the "faint hope clause." No administration has repealed the prohibition of a firearm named in the regulations. And if in the highly unlikely event a future government did undo the prohibitions you could then go out and buy one. In between now and then the government's money could be spent on a gun you could actually use instead of having gather dust in a gun safe.

I don't need their money to buy another gun.......it is only $1,300 on average so I am sure it is not going to make or break anyone. Since each gun would have their individual value (in their eyes) it is a sliding scale. They will have to inspect it to assess the value of each firearm. If you do not agree on the value you can always say no and keep it as a collector. If this was not allowed there would have been a mandatory confiscation of all the guns on their list. The point is my property is NOT for sale. You can restrict my usage but you cannot have it - hell I'd turn it into a deact before I hand it in to the Government. I'm on the Tavor waiting list $2,650 - non restricted. The price of shooting just went up boys.

Legally keeping a formerly non-restricted requires you to register the firearm, have a restricted license and upgrade storage beyond what is required for non-restricted. Each owner can decide their preferred course of action. There is, however, nothing particularly ignoble about turning a gun in for compensation nor anything particularly commendable about keeping a gun as a gesture of defiance.

You are free to do what ever you want, but in my opinion, I would avoid any and all firearms that are military or military looking variants. Especially semi auto center fires. I don’t think the OIC list is done. I suspect there are several models being looked at right now, including the Tavor. All it will take is a shooting in the news.

Military has absolutely zero to do with this farce. Consider that the 303 Brit is still used in Canada's North by some rangers. All firearms for the most part were designed with an original intent of military use. You have to say "scary" !

I unfortunately had a boating accident on my way to "turn in" my ridiculous "assault riffle ban" bull . Also this is not legislation since it was an OIC that it didn't go thru the proper channels that if government changed in a month they could throw this ridiculous claim out the door and be done with it. So far unless they have secretly added anything to the list it hasn't affected me but I only have my PAL so I could just as easy sell them all tomorrow and never have to worry about anything lol

I may as well sell my banned .22 semi, because I can’t hunt with it or use it as a training gun, and there is not much point in keeping it as a dust collector in my gun cabinet.

I don't own any of the banned guns but if I did and had to turn it in I think I might weld the chamber and muzzle shut. If I can't use it no one else will.

They key word would be "private." You'd at the very least jeopardize your membership taking one to a gun club and may risk being reported to the police.

Being caught with it in the bush risks a criminal charge, fines/incarceration, loss of your license, seizure of all other firearms, job loss, restricted volunteer opportunities and being not permitted to enter other countries. Hardly seems worth the risk to pop off a few rounds with a Mini-14.

Or you could take the government's money and buy something that doesn't bring the same potential consequences.

The difference is that when the non-restricted registry was in force a casual observer could not tell whether a firearm was registered or not. With perhaps a few exceptions a formerly non-restricted, now prohibited firearm is easy to spot.

I have no doubt there will be people using them in private. And they face all the legal ramifications that have been pointed out. Pretty risky IMO.
Last fall I was upland hunting and when I parked, there was a car in the lot next to me. It was plastered in CCFR and Molon Labe stickers. Two guys were target shooting into a small berm next to the lot. Bursts of 5s and 10s we’re ripping off over and over, along with a bunch of laughing and hooting. I’m sure they were having a great old time. Before I let my dogs loose, I popped over to give a friendly wave and tell them I would be hunting....kinda behind where they were shooting. They had a table set up with numerous handguns and a few AR variants on it. They smiled and waved back. I set out to hunt and quickly left because the shooting did not stop or slow down and I was uneasy about stray gunfire and my dogs.
Point is, this was not a CFO approved range. This was AFTER the OIC was amended. These boobs were shooting “in private” and putting up pretty much every red flag possible just asking to be stopped or called in.
The only “in private” I can think of that won’t draw attention is maybe if you own a gravel pit and happen to live on the same piece of property. Or maybe an indoor range.

I won't say where but I know places that even ex and current military guy's and non military use.

I guess Trudeau could try and build a special jail for everyone. I expect very little compliance.

I expect a lot of restricted will be called in as Lost if Cities are allowed to ban them

Crown land is out for distance for many people and I would not term it private.
Your legal gun ranges are out.

So what if they come to a person's private property, they have no right to trespass or enter a dwelling.
They will be sent on their way just as fast as they arrive. Nothing wrong with shooting firearms if neighbour likes it or not.

All your wishful thinking means nothing, if a call is generated, the police will be dispatched and will arrive like it or not. If your place is gated they will enter on foot, a Court will probably find it was "reasonable in the circumstances" for police to attend and investigate.

Nobody mentioned your place "being searched" they could arrive there on a call for service period. They would not know if a law had been violated until they investigate the call, you have a gun, if it gets discharged and if a call is placed they could well attend.

I don't know about all that. They would have to have reasonable grounds and the sound of gunfire over an extended period would not be grounds. A warrant would be required for them to cross a closed gate unless imminent danger to people is present.

Around these parts.... I could order pizza from an hour away and it would show up before the OPP, unless you say drinking.

I just want to point out for all of those who say they will take the governments money for your guns the government has no money. The money is taxpayers money ie: yours and mine. So they will use your money to take your guns from you. Personally I'm hoping someone will set up an export business and sell them to the US market. I would rather see mine go to someone who will use it rather than a government smelter. TC

There are Gun Shops sitting with $50+ K worth of inventory they can no longer sell. They will have to be reimbursed.

New Zealand, Australia and the UK all paid fair values if not better. In the few instances where Canada has compensated for firearms (e.g. T97 and BD38) they paid fairly.

It's in the government's interests to pay fair value. They want these assault-style rifles turned in. Secondly, if they offer a "tax credit" or unfair values the compensation program will likely face a court challenge.

This is Justlied Trudeau.... they have already said they are worthless.... but once that door is open... what else might they declare worthless and offer the same choice for "land claims", "the environment", "the economy", "security" ..... All poultry farms in Niagara are now gated with posted warning signs. There is a respiratory virus going around the chicken farms in Niagara and they are VERY diligent on who they let beyond the containment zone.

They have a volunteer fire dept out that way.......will would take those guys hours to arrive. Almost as slow as cops near a Crispy Cream donut shop with the fresh out of the oven light on.

That doesn't fly in rural Ontario either. They have to have some proof of danger and the smell of smoke won't cut it.

Picture a fire brigade smashing through or cutting their way in to roll up on a kid roasting marshmallows over a campfire. Nobody is that stupid and nobody will take that chance. At best the police will jump a fence and hope the charges are big enough to warrant the mud on their face.

It is also important to put things into context OUTSIDE of internet discussions with people who agree with you. After Canada’s worse mass killing in NS happened (even though there were many massive screw ups by the RCMP) people seem to want police to investigate these types of situations. There is public support, even expectations, for it. That dick didn’t do the firearm community any favours besides the fact when his cheese slid off his cracker, he killed a bunch of good innocent people.

If there is gunfire and a complaint the police will investigate to determine the source and legality. If some hero sets guard dogs on the officers he can expect the threat to be neutralized. If he wants to make a complaint about the investigation he can do so after the fact but the complaint will be investigated to the officer's satisfaction one way or the other.

I feel the same about people claiming to have “boating accidents” and report their guns lost. Gimme a break. What cop wouldn’t ask “why do you go boating with all your handguns and AR variants?”

There are a lot on the list that were not registered, not restricted before the ban, the government has no list of who has those guns, would be easy with those guns.

As an aside,as of last September,the OSPCA has been stripped of all enforcement power and must rely on Police with warrants to exercise what authority they have left (information gathering,ONLY). They over-reached and abused their powers once too often and messed with the wrong people,ended up in Court where the judge effectively shut them down. That's what happens when NGO's are allowed to go unchecked.

All restricted and prohibited must be registered. Now that these non restricted have become prohibited guaranteed they will have to be registered at some point in the very near future.

That was the impression I had. I validate the PAL but don't get any transfer number etc. That video is a bit misleading. If the CCFR wants to maintain its credibility, it better tread carefully about spreading falsehoods. That is the slippery slope the US has slid down and seems to not be able to pull itself out of. I am always a bit suspicious of organizations who sound an alarm and then ask for money too.

I believe you do get a reference number when you verify a PAL....as proof the PAL was verified. The video is accurate. So, as previously posted, the only missing information, is the firearm particulars....

You are correct Rick. If you confirm the PAL through the CFO, they give you a reference number to prove you checked with them.

Those who wish to legally keep their guns will have to deactivate them or enhance their licensing and security to own a gun they can't use or sell. Those who keep the guns illegally and get caught with them face criminal charges, fines, possible incarceration, loss of their license, seizure of all other guns and can expect limited future options for employment, travel and volunteer activities.

There will be another amnesty and at the same time a reign of crackdowns on the "illegal firearm owners" with nightly coverage by CBC etc of course.

Stores are supposed to keep track of buyers, there are import records and with C-71 in place they now have when a firearm is sold (not what ... yet) and who sold and bought something, (I agree likely later to add the firearm info to recreate a tracking system or other name for registry) if you say you sold it and there is no record then you are in sh**. So at that point if they want to make an example of a few people, go to the store that on record imported it, sold it and find the buyer, then it is just a matter of if the buyer sold it (a transaction record) on to the next person on the computer, if no record of "Joe" selling a firearm he sold it illegally or has an illegal firearm and both end in "Joe will be charged and go to jail", for much longer than a robber or repeat offender.

About the 8 minute mark they talk about those firearms are now worthless, so those owners turning them should strip off every piece and part they can reuse, someone else can use or put on ebay or just think there may be any use for and sell to someone in the US or other and turn in the essential parts only (butts, triggers, screws... everything). Now that they are "worthless" according to the gov't you can pretty much guarantee the price will stink!

So if truedope decided tomorrow that 4x4 pickups should be banned for the environments sake would you go along with that even though you maybe have 5 cords of wood to bring home to heat your house maybe,we should all drive a Toyota Pruis even though you may have a stock trailer to pull to get your beef to the sales barn. The difference is that when the gun registry was in place it was impossible to determine whether a gun was registered simply by looking at it. It is quite easy in most cases to tell at a glance whether a rifle falls into the prohibited category. If owners want to take the chance of keeping prohibited firearms they should be aware of the consequences and prepared to accept them if caught.

A better political strategy and a legal one would be to turn them in and accept compensation. If gun owners run up the government's costs then non-gun owners might start questioning the wisdom of spending a billion of their dollars buying back guns that were rarely a problem in the first place. The long gun registry wasn't defeated on principles but on the costs.

No the Gun registry was defeated by a change in Government with a promise to abolish it...the savings in cost overruns was just a bonus to help Liberal supporters choke it down. In the end it was a Knee jerk policy with no merit...much like the OIC that may not even get a legal 'pass' by the Supreme Court. The OIC and C-21 did do something, several things:
1) create a claim (not reality) they were doing something about firearm violence
2) create an US vs Them (the scary firearm owners) to divide and gain votes
3) create something to lie about to further divide and gain votes (the educated and informed minority and the uninformed or ideologues that would vote for them regardless)
4) create a "if you vote for them" *insert lies like handguns at playgrounds or "they want open carry and to own automatics" and other fear mongering lies
5) with the fear mongering and lies and CBC the possibility of a majority govt that can block corruption investigations and prevent the people from figuring out how incompetent and corrupt they actually are
6) Create a chance or opportunity to do more bans if there is no improvement (there won't be since they also reduced sentences on criminals C-22) and a tool they can use to further divide people for future elections
7) an excuse through C-71 and C-21 etc. to have firearm tracking (a registry), they spent $400,000,000,000 without a budget and without accountability in the name of public safety what's another 1 or 2 for a registry.

Just look at the comments by Trudeau and Blair, they have already started mentioning "sniper rifles" so there is another block they can ban. Probably proving again that Justlied is nothing but unethical and a liar.

What made the change feasible for the Harper government was the cost and being able to call it a "billion dollar boondoggle." If public opinion had strongly favoured the gun registry then it would still be in place today.

Note that Toews used the phrase "billion dollar boondoggle" when bringing in the legislation. By focusing on the cost to taxpayers and the lack of results it justified the decision to non-gun owners and made it difficult for the supporters of the registry to counter.

It would be good to do the same in this round. If it's cheap non-gun owners won't care. If it costs them a billion dollars it might get their attention.
