Yes they will work fine.
I use the magnus bull heads. When you connect there is no tracking required..

That'll work fine. Shot placement is everything. Personally, unless I have a Texas bullseye, I always take a head shot. People don't realize that the vitals are virtually the same size as the head and neck. The only difference is the vitals are obstructed by feathers and sometimes it can be difficult to visualize the vitals under all that mess.
When I first started bow bowhunting turkeys years ago, I got frustrated with trailing a bird 300 yards before I found it even with what was a good shot.
With a head shot they drop like a stone. Also it's either a hit or a miss.
With the crossbow that isn't a problem.
How do you practice with the Magnus broadhead and where can I buy them
Thanks
I bought one and tried a few things before I gave up. To easy to damage the blades so you don't practise enough to be proficient.
I used Cat Tails from the swamp. I stuck them in the ground in front of my rubber backboard. I aimed for the heads, about the same size as a Turkeys neck and soft enough to register a hit. Worked well but the blades hitting the rubber backstop took its toll.
I tried without a backstop, but the blades took a lot of damage (worse actually) hitting the ground. Shooting into the bag was a none starter..do much damage to the block.
Too expensive to become a broadhead I would use for hunting.
I agree with Jeff, go for the head and neck. It's either a hit or miss. The first bird I shot with a bow through the body flopped up and down twice and then laid there motionless. While I was waiting for the other birds to dissipate into the woods the one I shot all of a sudden got up and ran off into the bush. Spent the rest of the day tracking it and never found it. My second bird I went for the neck and just nicked it but it bled out quickly.
Shoot into a hanging pillow
This!
Hanging pillow with a turkey target works great.
I'll let you in on a little secret about Magnus. They have a lifetime 100% replacement guarantee on all their broadheads. If you bend them while practicing contact Magnus and send them a picture of the bent blades and they will send you new ones. :)
Good to know...where do I but Magnus broadheads
I second the headshot/base of neck). If the turkey runs then your chances of finding it are slim. Turkey leave absolutely zero sign of being shot, other than a few feathers left behind. No blood, nothing. All you can do is watch where the sucker went. And go from there. When they're injured and hide in the bush they might as well be wearing an invisibility cloak... My first turkey was a thigh shot and he flew 80 yards and crashed at the edge of the bush. I gave him 45 minutes. I scanned the area I saw him crash at DOZENS of times, he was basically where I saw him land and I must've almost stepped on him a few times.
I’m trying the Magnus bullhead in a 125 grain with uncut Easton bloodlines in a 330 spine and 6 fletching. Practice on an old pillow is what I’ve been doing. Also turned down the poundage to 55lbs. All set to chop turkey heads.
I watched a few you tube video's and the Magnus really lop heads off
Ok,I got to ask, why bow hunt when you can use a shotgun .
Don't need a PAL..... (avoid the cost associated with getting one)
I have used a shotgun for years with great success I just wanted to switch things up and more of a challenge.
Avoiding to wake-up the farmer's family with shotgun blasts early in the morning, & permission given for archery only around some small farms could be other factors to consider.
I hunt a Township that is still no Sunday gun hunting
Its more of a challenge with a bow, My personal goal (bet to my self) was to take a Turkey with a bow first, then progress to shotgun.
I have a question can you sit in bix blind with both shotgun and crossbow. Pick which tool works at the time
With the magnus bullheads from a compound is speed or weight better when choosing an arrow? I shoot 60lbs at 26 inch draw.
We switched over to exclusively bow hunting about 7-8 years ago looking for increased challenge, as stated above. Using both compound and xbow. even ditched the blinds and shot a few with compounds that way. But we never got into the head-shot broadheads and after a number of mixed experiences on body shots over several years, we were eventually frustrated enough to switch back to guns. Our recovery rate wound up being 50%, obviously not good enough to carry on.
re: broadhead choice. I shot 4 turkeys with wasp jackhammer 125’s. 3 from a 200lb xcal and one from a compound. Recovered 2/4. No discernible difference from my end in terms of poi on the turkeys. All four appeared good in the moment.
a lot of people wouldn’t admit that but this is supposed to be a place to come for helpful, practical advice, so there you go for what it’s worth...https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...cb346fd2a5.jpg
