I'll add it sounds like they may open the U.S. border for non-essential travel before the 4th of July weekend;
Quote:
United States land borders with Canada and Mexico will remain closed to non-essential travel until at least June 21, the U.S. and Canadian governments said on Thursday.
Sorry to sound skeptical but deliberately tying liberties to getting a jab is not a democratic way of doing things.
The government has repeatedly moved the goal post.
This is our summer season and yes influenza cases drop like a rock. No way they could continue to justify their numbers.
I would venture to guess that a fourth wave will magically appear in September.
Rinse and repeat. The only real solution is to kick the bums out to the curb.

It's all the same but the sporting events and casino will open.
It's a similar time line as last year without vaccines.

Smooth move from the government to pass reasons for extended lockdowns on to everyone's neighbours, friends and family members. Divide and conquer.
Who said anything about democratic.... Canada elected a dictatorship lover and the anti-freedom and anti-free speech see it as an opportunity. Hence OIC, C-21, C-10 etc. (See link for just how f***** bad it really is https://www.oodmag.com/community/sho...-looks-at-C-21 )

Makes you wonder a bit abit about the COVID/Vaccine disaster we have.
https://torontosun.com/opinion/colum...lobal-scrutiny
They seem to be trying to setup mail in voting etc. .... 4th wave and election will likely "coincidentally" overlap .... I saw they wanted to be able to keep counting ballots AFTER the polls closed.... I guess it helps with how many they need to print and fill out.
I really think they want to protract this "opportunity" as long as possible (as compared to many other countries) and the small businesses (ones the gov't has little influence in) and children (all ready sold out, look at debt and interest payments alone), they will likely try and run through the summer instead of a break to push through C-21, C-10 (* seems their priority) etc.

So we can finally fish the Ganny in Port Hope from tomorrow.
Or is the mayor still hating on fishermen from outside Port Hope? LOL.
About sums it up.

Whata bright future we have to look forward to

Seems that the bait and switch has gone over the heads of many.
Up until now, reopening was dependent upon falling case counts, now it's all about vaccine compliance.
We've started to have people asking if we've "got our shot yet", so the divide and conquer has begun.

Ok so let's threaten people's freedoms with experimental vaccines, what a great idea.
Sounds like a great way to divide the people through fear and control.
I have no problem with vaccines. What I have a problem with is being part of experimental drug trial with unknown long term effects let alone what short term effects are happening
I have no issues being part of the thirty percent. If I'm so much of a public health risk why am I going to work everyday...lmao
Maybe Doug will send out his gestapo police to force the last thirty percent to a jab, once he gets his seventy percent compliance..lol
I think they just pulled the wool over their eyes...again

Shame on Ford-now he makes Reopening a moving target!
If we read those "conditions",there is an IF in every Phase..........At the end of each phase, health system indicators will be reviewed before moving to the next step.
Regardless if the threshold of vaccination % is met or not.
So ordered our fearless leader.
Meanwhile in Europe, countries with 50 % vaccination declare ALL CLEAR, and they go back to"almost"normal life(still some minor conditions-mostly related to large gatherings).
No masks, all open-life as we knew it.
And while they "propagate"vaccine-they do NOT push and do not make it CONDITION.
Never mind USA-we all know the situation there by now.....
yea, in the US instead of punishing them...they came up with incentives to entice them to get the shot...like free tickets to movies, ballgames, beer. Some employers are offering their employees $350 bonuses for getting the shot....
Not here...stay home until everyone complies...sounds almost like something Stalin would have done. HaHa...
I was thinking more Mao, but the paranoia, power hungry, lies and corruption .... they are interchangeable.

Like I said, the Libs have considered it an opportunity, look how they shut down WE Charity, SNC, Jody W.R., OIC, C-21 and now C-10.... all of which in an independent media would be nightly news over and over and should have huge protests and with the NDP/Bloc kissing butt they can push through alot!

Heck it seems Trudeau likes lockdowns and restrictions
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53pNegyiFnY
How many businesses will be open when they are done with this anyway, between the closures, not being able to get staff (CERB or work...) and restrictions there will be alot of going out of businesses sales to watch for.
A side note here. Last evening 4 young lads in 3 separate cars showed up at 8:00 PM to pick up 1/2 cord of firewood that I had for sale.
Very polite group and they got out of vehicles with masks on. I told them it was not necessary and so they removed them. They looked relieved.
I asked where they were from and one replied from Ottawa South. I then asked if they were going camping and another replied "Something like that"
They spoke Arabic among themselves and were obviously friends and not from the same family. Different body sizes and facial features.
They proceeded to stuff the wood into the trunk and back seat of an older Ford Taurus. The driver expressed concerns about spiders....lol
Enough wood there for a couple of nights of bonfires for sure.
After the load they proceeded to chat among themselves for a bit. Making weekend plans I guess and off they went.
I could not help and wonder how this will torment Ford and company with their stats.
Modelling is done through cellphone tracking in case people wondered how they were doing it.
It is public knowledge if you Google it.
Moral of the story is you are only penalizing yourself if you stay at home this weekend. Enjoy the great outdoors. Everyone else will be.
A good plan has contingencies and flexibility. The plan needs both if hospitalizations and ICU occupancy are out of control even if the vaccination thresholds are met.
My issue with the Ontario plan is that it is extremely cautious with no apparent consideration of speeding up reopening if numbers are reached sooner than forecast.
I don't mind if the government is being extremely cautious but if the vaccinations move along a bit faster than expected I would expect they would react with sooner openings. I'm at the top of the list when it comes to detesting this shopping at curbside. I just pissed away 20 bucks on a non-matching color paint because I couldn't get inside and compare the actual code numbers.
Me too. Had a package I ordered ( when normally I would have just gone and bought it) stolen from my porch this week.
Nah.... they flattened it in China by telling the health units not to report it and as we saw with the ones that issued the early warning, they just disappeared or in a few cases died from "COVID". According to my inlaws their parents won't take the Chinese vaccine, the same one Justlied wanted to get for us, because they don't trust the quality..... the return to normal will be when the Fed govt tells the provinces to say we are good.

Depending on who is shipping it they do have a tendency to drop and run and not even hit the door bell, some delivery tracking lets you get updates like when it is out for delivery or delivered. I had an entire grocery delivery disappear, the picture of the door they dropped it off in front of wasn't even the same colour as my door and they often are missing an item.
As far as my renovation nothing has changed - I had guys working here for the last 3 weeks - demo, framing, drywall and taping. I just finished installing the pot lights & the lighting control. Last week we went to look at and purchase the hardwood flooring, and ceramic tiles - stores are just doing it by app't now. Tomorrow we are going to look at slabs for the counter top.
People are done with the lockdown and have found ways to work around the lockdown and keep their business afloat - safely. I for one am fine with doing business with them because I am not stalling my project while Doug locks down the entire province because of Peel and Toronto.
His opening plans are based on strong arming people to get the vaccine. The second part will be vaccine passports. You may be required to provide one to go to a hockey game, get on an airplane, cross the boarder, or even enter a store.
Must be expensive with the price of lumber.
Vaccine Passports will not likely be a requirement for Canadians to travel in Canada, but the Government cannot control what other countries demand. If the other countries demand a Vaccine passport Canada will have to issue them or nobody will be allowed to travel. If you want to travel outside of the US and Canada you will probably need it.
If you read the fine print from other countries when they discuss vaccine passports, it's always vaccine passports or negative test. The negative test is always in the fine print or hidden in the article.
In both these news clips you can hear them discuss international travel by vaccinated individuals (vax card) or those with negative tests.

Re-opening will be contingent on when politicians realize they can't control the public through fearmongering and bullshyte and they're about to be political lynched, not before.
I know of 2 different groups who went out for their annual May 24 weekend fishing and camping trip. 2 hour ATV ride to the boonies, set up their tents, launched the boats and caught fish. Lot's of folks up this way who spend time in the bush are just ignoring the ban on crown land camping, and I don't blame them.
Me neither. Would they feel the same about it, if large numbers of GTA residents showed up in their neck of the woods to do the same?
Those pot growers everyone who was complaining about a couple of days ago , seemed to make it north. They must know how to get there. Lol.
Most of the reno was taking down walls/beams and opening up a large 33 x 22 room. Had to buy very little lumber (couple of 2x6's and 8 sheets of plywood). The big thing is the lead time on appliances 10-12 weeks and my cabinets are 12 weeks. Even my flooring was not in stock and took 3 weeks to get in - 200 sq feet of porcelain and 900 square feet of 6" oak hardwood. I'm glad I am not in the middle of a new build where I needed 2,000 square feet of hardwood and lots of lumber.
Probably shouldn’t but.
Based on the amount of traffic on the roads this past long weekend, I’m betting lots of gta residents ignored the stay at home order. Thousands.
Know our part of the back 40 utterly exploded in boat traffic, vehicular traffic. Didn’t see many complaints. Almost none actually.
Big differences too, between a couple groups and thousands....
Against my better judgement I fished sturgeon Sunday morning. A complete and utter SShow. Just glad I launched before sunrise, and was gone before it got too bad. I think at one point I counted over 30 boats in a fairly small tight pocket near Goose bay if you know it.
That’s not counting the crotch rockets :)
All the same, it almost seemed normal. Which depending on ones perspective was/is kind of nice
And Ford? Our provincial lockdown is entirely on him.
Sorry that I brought up an obvious truth. Must interfere with the anti liberal diatribe. Let me say again, lock downs in Ontario are at the direction of Ford and the sitting Conservative government. To truthful for some? Because it is not controversial.
Well I know that the Kawartha Lakes are not far enough north to prevent crowds. Every boat ramp had line ups, of those waiting to test the waters.
I didn't disagree with you. In fact I said "sure", but then asked you to think what the alternative would be like if it wasn't Ford in charge. Reality is any gov't would have us in a lockdown, as most of the world has seen. The other reality is, I'm sure glad I'm not the one making the decisions, but whatever you do 50% of the people will disagree with it.
as some of you may know i work at home depot.
they are setting up to open on June 4th, well see how that mess goes lol
different question.
What “might” (stress that word) things be like if Ford were actually in charge?
And or, if he wasn’t thinking about an election and being afraid to annoy
Unions/health officials, healthcare
The GTA and red Toronto.
The well off
?
Shame there’s no way to know.
In Canada every mainstream political party that is governing has locked us down. Liberal, NDP, PC, UCP, SP, PQ et al have pretty much followed the same line of thinking in their respective provinces.
Anyone angry at Ford is living under a pretty serious delusion if they think we'd be better off with Horwath or Del Duca at the helm.
ya I agree it could- would be worse. Just don’t conveniently ignore the fact that the lockdown in Ontario is entirely on the provincial Conservatives. Put the blame where it belongs when you complain.
Federally yes. When you complain about lockdowns and restrictions and what we are doing in Ontario , that is all on Ford.
More leftist bs lies.
Ontario and the rest of Canada wouldn't be in lockdown if the idiot Trudeau didn't have five thousand plus international travelers coming in and out of Pearson every single day. Total failure of the federal government.
By all means stay home and wear your mask, if you don't you are the problem.

Take a look at Australia if anyone wants a look at what our return to fall and winter will look like.
Sent from my SM-A520W using Tapatalk
It is on Ford only because he had the misfortune to be in government when this happened. No matter what he did or is doing there is an array of critics ready to pounce. The ink is barely dry on his reopening plan and mayors are complaining about splash pads, parents want schools reopened while teachers are threatening injunctions unless teachers are fully vaccinated.
No government at any level is escaping criticism that is both fair and otherwise. No government would regardless who was in change.
There are only a few weeks left of school they can all try again in September. Open up and have a great summer lol.

Well, I first blame Turdeau, even in Ontario ... because he's the one that dropped the ball big time on vaccines and left the provinces to do all the work. He's also the one that refuses to close airports ... people can still vacation in Cuba if they want ... is that essential??
So, Ford was handed a load of crap from Turdeau ... and yeah, he used a blanket approach shutting everything down, according to our doctatorship here in Ontario ... which isn't good either.
Well - maybe not.
Australia has done fairly well up to now with closing their borders.
But either they don't understand what "endemic" means, or haven't got the word yet that covid is/will become endemic like the flu or the common cold.
They have tried to hide, but its a losing strategy. Maybe they understand that now.
Lockdowns do not work. They can level out spikes but that's about it.
We are seeing that in Ontario with our spring lockdown. They've managed to drag out flu season to the end of May. Not sure if that is an achievement to be proud of.
Also - have a look at the Australia vaccination rate. Another source of their problems.
I guess some of it depends on whether or not you think we'll see another wave in the fall. I think we will, at least to some degree. Plenty of the population will be unvaccinated, new mutations will inevitably get past these vaccines (to some degree), and the virus will follow typical seasonal trends, as we're seeing now. Credit is going entirely to vaccines and lockdowns right now but cases plummeted at exactly the same time as last year.
Australia has implemented some harsher and swifter restrictions than we've seen in Canada but I'm sure our crew will still be running the same playbook in October. We'll see, but my guess is more of the same by this fall.
Sent from my SM-A520W using Tapatalk
I predict the fall won't be to bad I'm thinking the it will come out in February March when the vaccine start wearing off. Unless they give out a booster in the fall around the typical shot season. In the fall it might hit long term care homes since they would be the first ones fully protected 6, 7 months ahead of the flu season. If the majority are getting the second shot soon they should still be a little protected the beginning of the flu season but not by the end .

Sweden. Worth the read.

Depending on how a person interprets, and presents the data ( spins it). There are lessons for either argument.
So the takeway?
Never mind Sweden. How about the success in Mexico city?
More than one way to skin the rabbit.
