OK so I took a few shots with the crossbow at 10 yards to site in 3 shots and almost on, but I stopped.
I am using one of those foam blocks made for target shooting it's about 8 inches thick and the bolt goes right through it out the other side. I am thinking this will soon damage the bolt. I also had it against the barn but after the bolt went 3 inches through that.
Is there anything I can do to prevent damaging the bolt or is that just part of targeting practising.
I always shoot into a mound of clear sand ( no stones) I build a 3 sided crib with the front open , this is especially good for broadheads but it does dull them. A word of caution , don't use this after freeze up for obvious reasons.

worst i seen was a bolt go more than 3 quarters through the bag and my fletching got destroyed. but thats probably because we were shooting to close to the bag.
Well I don't have a sand pit but I could probably fill a dozen feed bags with sand. I'll try that just have to find some sand.
If you are sighting it in with field points, just fill a sack with old clothes, make sure your remove the buttons and zippers, works really well and easy to pull the bolts out

I'm thinking the one I have is both old and probably not made for the speed.
For field points you want a bag target of some type and it is best to hang or suspend it. This allows the bag to absorb more of the arrow energy, since it can swing when hit.
Unfortunately it is the one for 229. You can probably find it 170-180 on Amazon somewhere. I paid 99 for mine but that was 10+ years ago. It will stop any arrow with any head no matter the speed and removal is also pretty easy. Mine has 1000s of shots on it and still going strong. I only shoot broadheads at mine as i don't see the point of field points as you can't hunt with them. I only sight/practice with what i hunt with.Quote:

Bag is so wore out I keep putting little duct tape pieces as new targets.
It's a Hurricane bag, I like it, Its got a lot of use, only 2 holes in the drywall from passthrus lol

The Rinehart stops my arrows from my 400fps scorpyd.
Old feed bags stuffed tight with clothes works too...
Broad heads are easy to remove from the Rinehart. Just pull the arrow backwards.Quote:

Your right...you used to be able to get away with the DIY bags etc back when bows were 150-200lbs...But these newer bows 350+ required a proper Block stop the impact and retrieve broadhead. I've lost track of the cost now of an Arrow + Broadhead......must be over $30 by now...don't skimp on a Block.Quote:

Well got the bow sighted in. But couldn't really take a picture with the bolts going almost through it the bag of clothes did stop it from going into the barn. Guess I am going to have to buy one of those bag targets. My son was very good he hit the bulls over and over again.
I will get a bag target next month once I get my first pay from the new job. He is have a bit of a time to it as his arms are not quite long enough and he's not quite strong enough to make it click in. Will have to work on that.

Thanks SongDog I will pick one up this weekend. Wow thought I was going to get away with just buying the crossbow seems to be costing me more and more. Picked up another 6 Bolts costing 65.00 bucks now a new target and still might have to buy some broadheads not to sure about the ones I bought from Amazon

OK also going to need a case as well dimensions of Crossbow are 35 (L) X 20.5 (W) X 10.6 (H) minimum.
So in the end I am going to be in for almost 700 bucks and that is probably very cheap compared to most on here.

Are you sure that you packed the clothes in the feed sack really tight. I use a feed sack stuffed with clothes and it holds my exalibur bolts really well, they dont penetrate more than a few inches, definitely not more than half way. Give it a go again, jam those old clothes in there tight, it should do the trick. You are using field points correct. It has to workQuote:

You have to get those x6 bull target panels GW.. those x-bow carbon arrows are far too expensive to tear all the fletchings off.
It's accuracy, NOT groupings with bows....new Bull (POA) with every shot. Then patch and reuse.
It's nice to get a 'Robin Hood"...but way too expensive now HaHa...
I use little pieces of masking tape in random spots as a "bullseye" so it doesn't beat up the same spot on the target all the time or beat up the arrows.
To late I bought a dozen extra bolts cost me 130.00 bucks.
I'm thinking when I am dead my son will probably never have to buy another firearm / bow for hunting.
I have asked him to promise never to sell any he can only buy more.
Or maybe I can take this stuff to the afterlife like a Viking. Reminds me I don't have a sword.
