Well I was heading to my camping spot in Bissett Creek for what looked like an awesome weekend. Loaded up with the ATV, canoe and all my gear for a relaxing weekend of target shooting and fishing. Then.....
I called the insurance and I am covered. Hard part will be finding a new truck.

Must have hit something and blew ball joint from what I can tell.
Had to cut a road around the truck so my buddy could get around with his truck and then we unload my equipment into his truck and I drove my ATV to our camping spot. Never bothered to fish or canoe. Drank some beer went to bed and got up early to pack and figure out what were going to do.
Truck is still there right now. Tow company with off road machine will retrieve it Monday, my buddy will escort them in to where they are.
Wow, that's too bad..... Hopefully it will all works out in your favour.

That happened to my father in-law from a speed bump lol, but the repair wasn't to bad.

It is what it is, nothing I can do. Hopefully the insurance will pay out.
Think I will stick with Dodge I liked that truck it had 4WD on the floor. Not that electronic crap. But I am going to get something much newer I think and maybe even go new not sure yet. The Dodge truck new what I want is 51K

No I am going through insurance, so they will mostly likely write it off. It's plausible I could repair it but insurance won't the cost to repair will likely be considered to great. I will go look at it next weekend when they get it out.
Who know if it is reparable by me, maybe the insurance will pay me out and I buy it back for 300 like I did with one of my one of my SUV's. One of my SUV's was written off and I bought it back for 300 and had it back on the road in 1 week for 500 bucks.
Luckily I was not going down the road where the cliff was that would have made it difficult to cut a road around for us to get out with my friends truck.

Yeah I was OK kind of freaky when it let go and the truck started skidding down the road, was really pissed that my weekend was ruined. I really liked this truck it had was a 2005 Dodge Larmine 4x4 on the floor and it was in nice shape and only had 164 k on it.
Doubt if I can find a old one like that again. Thinking of just going to buy new or very new, Have to wait first and hear from the insurance.
I do see a few on Kijiji around 10 - 20 K. But i really did like this truck.

You don't remember hitting anything? That's surprising because it takes a major whack to do that kind of damage. It's possible that whole front end assembly let go without hitting anything. Ball joint failure and the snowball effect might be the culprit. Believe it or not,the insurance company may decide to repair it which is quite doable. Don't write the truck off,yet,especially right now when things in the auto industry are really sideways. Be thankful it didn't let go on the 400 or some such. Well it was just a truck and luckily it didn't happen along the cliff side and very glad my son wasn't with me.
But all in all, crap happens and life goes on.
Worse part is I probably won't have a truck for deer season which means I can't use the ATV, which means if we get any deer I am going to have to pull them out by hand. Wife already said I am not taking her Sorento SUV out deer hunting (I think she's afraid I might take it in the woods ;)).
As if I would do something dumb with her SUV

Yes it could have been that. But I think it will be a write off we pulled the tire off and the shock and axle was still attached the ball joint and steering knuckle are snapped. My Buddy is suppose to take some pics tomorrow when they bring it out.
Actually wasn't worried about myself but miss the truck and thank god my kid wasn't with me. But nothing came through the cab. Thank goodness the straps held on to the ATV. I have the big ones good for 3000 pounds each and four straps holding it, didn't even move nor did the canoe. But a really nice weekend was ruined.

On the downside, as someone else mentioned, prices suck at the moment. I just saw a 2017 ram go by from the Bancroft dealer, $43,700! I paid that for brand new last year! 44K for a 5 year old truck, just nuts, that truck wouldn't have been 5K more brand new!

If I were you I'd be looking for a trailer to bring the ATV. Once you get your truck you can always sell it at the same price you paid for it. You'll have to pay taxes when you transfer the ownership and plate it but having the ATV might be worth it.Quote:

Good luck finding a new truck these days. I ordered a factory 2021 and it's now 4 months and counting and have been told it could be 6 months +. I might cancel the order and go for a 2022 instead. This pandemic has sure messed the world up.

Yeah that's what I have heard could be 6 months. I have seen a few on Kijiji but have not looked at them and most had the 5.6 ft box which is to small for my needs. I will find something but I am not going to hurry.

I will take my time. I can still hunt. I have a trailer that I have used for the ATV and my wife's care can tow it the Sorento is rated for 4000 pounds. Just have to promise I won't take it off road. Plus I paid for her car so technically I should be allowed to take it, shouldn't I
I am already looking but I am partial to looking for a good old one like I had I really like the 4x4 shifter on the floor and not the electronic crap.
I'm going to wait until I confirm what insurance is going to give me I think I will get what I paid between 10 - 12 K.
I have another 20 K I can toss in, just have to decide how far I want to go. Wife still wants a new Kitchen

I am thinking of seeing if he is interested in selling it as he did buy a 2018 Ford.

If you go that route GW..pick up a truck coming off lease, around 7yrs old. Best bang for the $$$, usually low millage, well maintained and from what I see in the CT parking lot, not many have never been off hard stand.
Myself, even at that age, they're still well beyond what I would ever pay for a P/U truck. 8 yrs ago I picked up my 97 GMC Sierra at an auction for $3,200. It's getting a little rough around the edges now but still does what it's supposed to do.
Perfect, a great excuse to pick up a used Tundra! :) Always drove Chevs before, and last August bought a Tundra. Never looked back!

I am quite surprised my Buddy and I wrote up a list of what we thought would be needed for parts and the cost of each parts excluding body work. We came up with 1500 alone in parts based on after market plus costs to put on and taxes.
I noticed I had the truck listed as 13000.00 + the new tires they would have probably seen them listed at close to 2000.00 for 4.
Considering my truck has not gone down in value I am thinking they priced it at 15000.00.
Doing some reading they might repair if the repair cost is less than 50% of the value.
SO 1500.00 in parts + labour they say 5 days + not how many hours, so I am thinking 20 hours @ 125 / hr so 2500 (I have no idea for sure my buddy forgot to take pics). That brings us to 4000 + new fender and paint say 1500. So 5500 bucks.
I was kinda half hoping they would write and let me buy it back cheap repair it like I did once with my Jimmy when they wife was hit.
Anyways suppose to be ready Friday or Monday I will call the insurance tomorrow. Crap now I am going to go up to Pembroke to retrieve it.
Trucks are worth a mint right now -- I'd say consider your self lucky on this one that they're willing to repair it! Any time there's a payout you lose -- as with any insurance.Quote:

These are like the tire I bought mine are discontinued and I got them cheaper 400.00 each + 20 eviro fee X 4 + Tax = 1898.40

The truck was appraised at 15K I originally paid 10K with taxes. So it actually went up in price. Cost to repair was 3200.00 I spoke to the collision place and they are way cheaper than the place my Jimmy went to in Ottawa. This place charges 62.00 an hour the place in Ottawa was 125.00 and hour.
The guy said although my truck the paint is rough (Typical of someone who will drive through anything) he said it was quite solid and only 165000 km and it was the Larmine edition fully loaded.
Crap now I have to pay for the plate fee for last year and this year I was thinking I would get out of that, if I had bought a new truck I would have gotten new plates.

I have to agree my 2010 F250 has 150K on it, built like a tank and eats gas like a tank. However, it has been paid for 7 years now. I don't want no name for the truck I want quality and MOOG is probably the best unless you go high performance.
Over the years I have learn that for off road you want very good quality.
I also know a few people who deal with Rock Auto in the US and I have thought about doing business with them as well.
My buddy uses 'Rock Auto' exclusively, brand name parts delivered to your door and most time 1/2 price of retail.Quote:
