Censorship and banning members from participation is a great way to keep membership low.
I've been cruising this forum for a few months and I have to say, it's dead and I'm starting to think the admin/mods have had a hand in that.
After today's display from admin/mods towards a certain long standing member, I'm pretty much done here until Mr. Gilroy is given full forum access.

I think this forum is getting away from what it originally was. Post some pics of fish and game and some techniques you used and forget about all the others things and this forum will come back to what it was. Admin has some sort of job to do and you won’t make everyone happy regardless of the reason. Let’s just simplify things.

What kills discussions is the lack of respect towards others who voice differing opinions. People need to learn how to debate by discussing the issue and not attacking the individual.
People also need to understand that if you continuously insult a person, you will likely never convince them that you are right.

That is the gist of what we are trying to get through too some. Just like poking a bear isn't a good idea as eventually it'll bite back so is constantly jabbing, mocking, or aggravating another member only leads to worst in return. Eventually you have 2 monkeys throwing feces at each other while the rest of the zoo are cheering them on. Ya sure some may say that's a lively and entertaining forum to me its just an embarrassment. If that's the sort of thing you like watch an episode of Jerry other wise listen to the wise words of Sam who incidentally is a top and great poster yet I never see him in the off topic section. This is just a suggestion,but,if political discussions are really a problem causing no end of grief for moderators,maybe,it's time for a blanket policy banning all forms of political discussion or any other subject which may cause disagreement from the entire website.

Many years back I used to actively post in the "off topic" section. Came to the realization that it was a waste of time and not why I joined. Sent Megan a pm and had myself voluntarily removed from access to that part of the site.
Have not been able to see it for several years now and don't miss it. Removed the temptation to be a "di#k.". Now I just post trip reports and provide input on topics I have knowledge of. Much better experience.
So what's worse on a web forum? Belligerent arseholes who insult you, ridicule you or post their address and invite you over for a fight or the moderators who repeatedly warn the aforementioned arseholes and ban them if their behavior continues?
If the answer isn't immediately obvious you may be one of the problems.

There has never been much Belligerence on this site.
Excluding the one time Gilroy and I got into back around the Chretien and Martin / Harper days.
But up until around 2019 this site was hoping what is now posted in 30 days we use to post in one day.
Troutslayer even you would remember those days having started on this site around the same time as I .
Back then almost every topic had posts in them.
Again let's call a Spade a Spade the censorship has kinda gotten out of control.
Not everyone was actually kicked off here some left as they found they could not contend with the amount of censorship.
I'm still here as I am hoping we can get this site back where it use to be, but these day's I don't have as much time and I have to be so careful on what I say.
Please remember nobody is forced to read the Off Topic and politic threads.
I find that all forum boards are less busy than before. It seems to be the way things are now. Many people have moved to Utube, Facebook and other social media platforms. The rules we all follow (or should follow) here at OOD were written when the site was launched. You can say anything you want on these forums as long as the rules are followed. There is no censorship here. Just rules you agreed to.Quote:
