I'd highly recommend contacting British Nick Makinson in Komoka, Ontario. His number is (519)471-5462 ; his work is highly recommended for d shotguns and rifles.
( He is old like me, so this is assuming he has not retired or passed on..:) )
I talked to him this aft and he told me he doesn't do pumps....is there anybody else withing a reasonable distance?
i have heard there is a gunsmith in mt brydges in behind the post office,,i dont know his name or number,,if iam out that way tomorrow ill look into it and see what i can come up with,,
General Gun in Windsor. Well worth the drive
Try contacting al Simms in hamilton or silverdale rifle range. Both can recommend gunsmiths. Dealt with the gentlemen that silverdale recommended and was very prompt and great.
Best gun smith around and better pricing then nick. Arthur Troth 519-264-9254. Located in Mt. Bridges.
Greech outdoors in Mount Forest is really good
I am not sure give him a call and find out.Quote:
Does he make barrels?
I am very familiar with Gobles and the love/hate of the locals. Been on both sides of the fence over the last three decades. But having said that, Dean is a nice guy, he's competent, and when I priced a similar job it was reasonable. Hey, I'm not cheerleading for those guys, I'm just wondering why LD would not get the job done at home when it's unlikely anyone else would do it better or cheaper or faster.
LD, you might want to call Walt Kazimer in Union. He used to have a shop there which he closed years ago, but I recently heard he still likes to tinker.
You are right, Dean is a nice guy. But, I was less than enthusiastic with a drill and tap job he did for me a few years back. I would not return for a similar job (pm me if you want to know the particulars). Personally, I feel that a gunsmith is someone that has the ability to do any repairs or modification to a gun, and to fabricate something to fill the need when necessary. The best I have ever known, was Nick Keba in Delhi. He had his own machining equipment, and the skill and creativity to do any task he was presented with. His backlog for work was a testament to that.
I have met Dean and have nothing against the man personally or his work. But I have my reasons and would rather not discuss them on a public forum.
It looks like it'll either be Grech Outdoors or Wortner Gun works. I spoke with Arthur Troth and he's taking some time off for personal reasons (unfortunately, I would have loved to pick that man's brain).
Does anyone have any reviews of either shop? Its about the same amount of Gas either way, so I'm trying to decide between them.
That's to bad to hear about Troth. It will be a very sad day when he stops working. Any one in the London area who hasn't used his gunsmithing services doesn't know what they are missing. He provides a service from a time you just don't see any more.
No lines crossed, all good in the hood.
There is a great Gunsmith in Kerwood Ontario (just 30 mins sw on the 402 from london) named Fred Woods. A lot of experience, especially in Shotguns. Ive been a military weapons technician for 12 years myself , and Ive known him for about 16 years before that, I recommend giving him a call.
