Tried a couple searches and I couldn't find what I was looking for.

I want to get the reciever of my BPS drilled and tapped for my scope base and I don't want Gobles to touch it. What other options do I have?

That seems like a really basic operation, and Dean at Goble's is very competent by all accounts I have heard, and he is a nice guy. Why the apprehension?

ALOT of folks around don't like Gobles. They got a bit of a reputation of talking down to people.

I am very familiar with Gobles and the love/hate of the locals. Been on both sides of the fence over the last three decades. But having said that, Dean is a nice guy, he's competent, and when I priced a similar job it was reasonable. Hey, I'm not cheerleading for those guys, I'm just wondering why LD would not get the job done at home when it's unlikely anyone else would do it better or cheaper or faster.

LD, you might want to call Walt Kazimer in Union. He used to have a shop there which he closed years ago, but I recently heard he still likes to tinker.

You are right, Dean is a nice guy. But, I was less than enthusiastic with a drill and tap job he did for me a few years back. I would not return for a similar job (pm me if you want to know the particulars). Personally, I feel that a gunsmith is someone that has the ability to do any repairs or modification to a gun, and to fabricate something to fill the need when necessary. The best I have ever known, was Nick Keba in Delhi. He had his own machining equipment, and the skill and creativity to do any task he was presented with. His backlog for work was a testament to that.

I have met Dean and have nothing against the man personally or his work. But I have my reasons and would rather not discuss them on a public forum.

It looks like it'll either be Grech Outdoors or Wortner Gun works. I spoke with Arthur Troth and he's taking some time off for personal reasons (unfortunately, I would have loved to pick that man's brain).

Does anyone have any reviews of either shop? Its about the same amount of Gas either way, so I'm trying to decide between them.

While I can't comment on Grech's, now that you said Troth isn't working, I'm going to Wortner's since they come highly recommended.
I was thinking of going to Ellwoods but it'd probably be a 6 month wait.

That's to bad to hear about Troth. It will be a very sad day when he stops working. Any one in the London area who hasn't used his gunsmithing services doesn't know what they are missing. He provides a service from a time you just don't see any more.
