Ontario Public Hunting Area Locations

UPDATE: Nearing 25,000 views I decided to update the links. Also I added a couple mapping options and Ontairo and Migratory hunting regulations.


I figured it was time there was a list created that had all of the public areas someone could hunt in Ontario. With all of the new hunters in the province every year its hard for them to get a good start at it without knowing anyone or without somewhere to go. I figure why not give someone a reasonable starting point to a life long obsession such as hunting, and let them know that they do have areas they can go.

If anyone would like to contribute more public locations or extras, please reply and I'll edit the list. Maybe it would be a good idea for a sticky too.

Looks like some peoples favorite spots just got a little more crowded...

Your heart is in the right place... But you may be way off base if you think guys who also hunt public land, are about to send you the details and have even more people pushin the bush.

Nothing wrong with using Google earth, get some maps, map books, GPS, and go for drives and find it. Makes finally getting out and being successful that much sweeter :)

No I completely understand your point of view and I also get that some people aren't going to like the idea whatsoever. I just figured that its all publicly available and fairly well known information to people who have hunted for years, so might as well help someone out who is struggling getting his first deer or rabbit. Or even someone who just lost access to his property or even just moved, ect. I know when I was 16 and just got my hunting licence and bow I would have loved to have this laid out for me. It took me years to realize that I could actually hunt somewhere locally because everyone is always so hush hush about it. The years of wasted weekends I spent inside because I didn't know I could have gotten a ride from my parents to places like this back in the day bothers me.

I think your wrong on Silent Lake Prov. Park. As far as I know there is no hunting.

This list is inaccurate if you blindly follow the list you may face charges.

The OP has listed Conservation Authorities that permit hunting and has included a map of all conservation area within their ownership. The problem is that while hunting may be permitted on some, hunting is definitely not permitted on all sites. A recent Ontario Out of Doors magazine article dealt with the CA's that permit hunting and as stated there check with the CA for a list of sites on which hunting is permitted. Keep in mind that off road vehicles are also not permitted on all CA lands, so check with that as well when you call. You cannot just show up at some of these sites and hunt; you may have to purchase a special permit to hunt ie GRCA Conestoga Lake CA. Also keep in mind that some of these CA sites actually close from late fall to spring, and if closed you may not access and if caught doing so you may face charges.

Likewise with the Provincial Parks, it is best to check with the proper authorities prior to going blindly, you may very well be facing the same issues as with the CA's.

I would advise anyone to verify before going to any of these sites, while the OP has good intentions standing up in court and saying "But x_xeon_x told me I could" would not go over very well with the judge.

As a new hunter, I thank the OP for aggregating this public information. All of it is freely accessible on the web (much I had independently found) and does give aspiring hunters a chance to get started.
A request to anyone hunting public lands; please use the property with respect and obey laws and regulations. Abuse of public lands is the first step to losing hunting access in those areas. No littering and if hikers, etc. are there respect their right to be there too. Note they likely will not be wearing orange.

To the County Forests section you could add Grey County. Hunting is allowed on their properties with no special restrictions that I'm aware of, except (understandably!) no permanent tree stands. http://www.grey.ca/explore-grey/fore...?activity=7239

One thing that can't be stressed enough is that most provincial parks that allow hunting, at least the operating ones, have restrictions on where, when and/or what you can hunt. For example: at The Massasauga PP, hunting is prohibited in the "Wilderness Zone" (25% of the park, surrounding Spider and Clear lakes in the central core) but allowed in other parts of the park. At Lake Superior PP, you can hunt moose, grouse and snowshoe hare only, and only east of the highway. At Kawartha Highlands SS PP, there's no hunting in the summer, not that that would affect most of us.

It would be a project of its own to research and compile all the rules about hunting in the various provincial parks. Ontario Parks does a pretty poor job of making the rules easily available. Go on their website and for every park where hunting is allowed at all, it says the same thing:

Thank you to all contributing to this thread. As a 25 year old who is just starting out, and living in Mississauga it has been difficult finding places that are a bit closer to home. Sometimes using google and maps feels like banging my head against the wall. I think this may help me locate places to go that are "more convenient" to get to.

Also regarding the provincial parks, it would be a nightmare to try and figure it all out. I agree they do a pretty poor job advertising they allow hunting. If I'm feeling ambitious in the future I could try sending an email out to all of them and posting the emails.

It is a great reach out when you offered your help by listing public land info to other hunters on this website.
I really think it is a nice gesture from you.
I am not sure how to put this, because I do not want to come across as a negative person or as a jerk-please ,I am just trying to present a different opinion, opinion of the next guy.
The next guy who hunts almost entirely public land, for many years now. I am not sure if you do hunt public land, or mostly private land-if you do hunt private land, you can consider yourself lucky .You may-or you may not seen and experienced some of the "misuse" of those public areas by unreasonable ppl.

We can relay even to some threads from this very forum-public land with garbage, public land with permanent treestands etc.
Getting more ppl onto public land is likely not the best thing that can happen to the areas...thus let me somehow apply my experience to this situation. Do let a person work for his/her goal, so the person will appreciate achieving the goal , to its full extent. .If a"gift "is presented to an individual, the individual may lack the sense of accomplishment of working hard to get it, thus may lack the respect for the "gift".
The OOD just presented some of the public areas in Ontario,as they are in a "business"of doing so...so to say.
I am not saying not to help other hunters -I did it more then once myself. But ,the person was asking for help in a way....

What I am trying to say is-lets help the guy who needs help-wants guidance, and leave it to the person somehow to ask for it..

I see it a little differently. If we were creating a database of hunting sweet spots, like places on huntable public land where wildlife is dense, then I'd agree with gbk's points. Make that kind of information too public and hunters will swarm the good spots till there's nothing left. Let the committed hunters do their scouting, or help them out by offering information privately when they come asking for it. Same goes for fishing hotspots, obviously.

But just knowing about the existence of public lands and the rules that apply to them is, in my opinion, the public's right as owners of that land. Doesn't mean you're going to find any animals there. But for more people to at least know what resources are out there for them, what opportunities they have to get out in the bush, look for sign, develop a relationship with these spaces and learn to value them, I think is a good thing.

It's also pretty public information already. The lists of Wildlife Management Areas and huntable provincial parks are right in the hunting regs summary.

Actually I think the huntable areas closest to the largest populations of people are already way too well-known for their own good. By helping people learn about opportunities that exist a little farther afield, we might actually be helping to distribute the hunting pressure a little better. I think there are a lot of huntable public properties in rural areas of southern Ontario that get very little use, because local hunters can just hunt on their own farms or their neighbour's farms. But if hunters from the GTA knew that instead of jostling through the crowds at the Nonquon they could drive an extra hour or two and explore an overlooked county forest or conservation property somewhere, we might be using our resources better overall.

To go back to the fishing analogy, you can go on the MNR website and see their Fish ON-Line database of what species are in what lakes all over Ontario. But if you want to find out where there's actually good fishing for those species, you'll have to do the legwork yourself, or at least find someone willing to pass on their knowledge.

I can see how some people can feel threatened and want to protect their PUBLIC hunting spots from the hordes of internet trollers. Thing is its public info and for some being pointed in the general direction is needed. As listed there is no specific description of the hunting area just names and contact info. From here further investigation is on the hunter part. Kudos to the original poster as I see this for newbies much more helpful than the customary.... Go knock on doors comments from others.

I think the point was internet trollers would not do the work but would reap the benefits if someone else did

Heres the thing, someone will eventually ask on here for help. However, they either get told head north to crown or pound on doors. Why not make a quick list you can just give them the link to instead. They're tax dollars are paying for it just as much as yours. If you don't like hunting with the public, don't hunt on public land.

For the computer literate this is how the investigation side of things works, and its extremely efficient. The old-timey folks can call their local Conservation Authority or the OMNR for information about public hunting areas or crown land, their number can be found in a "phone book", whatever that is.

Then comes the burst of friendliness, politeness and camaradierie- from you: If you don't like hunting with the public, don't hunt on public land.

Then you go down on Jim-and all the older guys ,who by the way were all respectful in this thread nice ,and reasonably polite.

For the computer literate this is how the investigation side of things works, and its extremely efficient. The old-timey folks can call their local Conservation Authority or the OMNR for information about public hunting areas or crown land, their number can be found in a "phone book", whatever that is.

Let's not get too worked up gbk, I appreciated your respectful tone but I don't think x_xeon_x was being rude either, he was pointing out to jim that huntable public lands are public information that everyone has access to, whether you use the internet or older forms of communication technology.

I'm pretty sure the computer literate already know about the above mentioned areas, I think the point is some are so lazy they would not even go that far. They would just do nothing unless someone else does the computer "hand" work for them. I am sure we have all experienced this even those of us who hunt private land have taken someone out to a "spot" only to find out that person went back after and asked permission there are lazy people everywhere. There are thousands of members on this site, yet only a few post, I am sure there are many that just sit back waiting for easy info to come to them. I certainly have no problem sharing my site info with friends but no offence to anyone I do not post it here.

To be honest most public places are horrible to hunt regarding the volume of people using it ,hikers ,horse riders etc , Some days I have to drive to three or four, even in different townships just to have my peace and quiet and not have my hunt ruined in the above fashion .

well yes I do come to this site find out about gear,helpful hunting tips,safety rules. but again I agree with you on lazy people . but i like the Fact that x xeon x is trying to help out ... being from out East i have little to No hunting Experience here and have little info on where is legal to hunt with out Trespassing accidently . But im not saying for everyone to Give me the Hunting Spots that they enjoy ...that should be me finding a spot on my own. he is just posting Public land no harm done unless you want to make a big deal out of it

You're unhappy that I posted general links to public land because you feel that people have to come begging to you before you give them information on public hunting areas. Whos actually got the problem? Someone who took a few minutes of online searching and compiled almost all of the public areas in Ontario, or someone who thinks people need to come talk to him first before they can step on his public hunting spot?

You also asked if I hunt public areas? Why yes I do! I hunt on 2 of the WMAs, 1 property on the LPRCA list, Long Point, and crown land. I also hunt one small parcel of private across the road from a LPRCA property. Somehow I don't feel the need to keep this information a secret though.

Regarding my comment to Jim, I'll break it down for you so you can get the meaning of it.

Access to land is one of the main hurdles for those who want to get started but don't have the "we've been hunting here for centuries" tradition or mentoring.

I use phone books, every morning... to start a fire :D

I have to say when it comes to phone books and roll down windows, my 16 years old son had never seen them before this year. My 10 year old asked daughter asked what a rotary dial phone was and a old manual typewriter. I also own a business that uses no traditional media for advertising. Everything is listed on on Kijiji ot UsedOttawa which directs them my websites. I first point of search for any 25 year old or younger is the internet.

You also asked if I hunt public areas? Why yes I do! I hunt on 2 of the WMAs, 1 property on the LPRCA list, Long Point, and crown land. I also hunt one small parcel of private across the road from a LPRCA property. Somehow I don't feel the need to keep this information a secret though.

Regarding my comment to Jim, I'll break it down for you so you can get the meaning of it.

Good job xeon, it's a great list. Most of this information is easily found searching the internet and reading the magazine but it will be extremely helpful to new hunters who have no clue where to start. It's really just a small step, honey holes aren't being exposed so I don't see any harm in this list.

I think the OP has a good post, it is a compilation of easily obtainable material, put together by someone who bothered to help others.

I have hunted on (crowded) public land (with no success yet) for years. I was given the helpful advice of "go knock on doors" and sadly have yet to have one open. I am a polite respectful bowhunter/ fisherman and still have yet to find some private land with access.

Access to the OP's information may help someone new to hunting find somewhere else to take a look with public access and hopefully not discourage those who want to learn or get outdoors.

I think if a person is disrespectful of the land they hunt, they will be whether it is private or public land. Others just want to meet those of like mind and maybe put some meat in the fridge. Drives me nuts when I clean up the mess some hunters leave on the public land I go to.

Not sure if this has already been mentioned in this thread, but there are a couple of books also available which give some details on public land available for hunting. I have them - they are o.k., but they seem to concentrate on southern Ontario, which doesn't interest me due to my location.

I think this kind of thing is just more relevant to soutern Ontario. If you're up north you're surrounded by crown land where you can hunt so you don't really need the help. Granted, there are some in-between areas in central Ont where crown land is available but not all over the place and can be a bit of a task to find, but even there the crown is sort of a rough patchwork all over the place, not a set of isolated properties that can be listed.

You must not have ventured to very many. I have shot a few Turkey and a few deer in a few SCF, both east and west of the 400.

It is difficult to find good spots, but for those who are willing to put lots of miles on their vehicle and their feet you can find some pretty sweet spots.

Driving by, or simple walking the main trail doesn't cut it. You need to look at google maps, and get out there, and explore the spots that look interesting and are off the beaten path. Watching animal movement from the road on neighbouring properties can help pinpoint areas of the SCF that may harbour game, or that may be part of their daily travel route, even though they may not spend the night there, they pass through.

I'm in the Ottawa area - neither north nor south. There is some crown/public land in the area, but there is also quite a bit that is not covered by these books. I just feel the authors could have done a better job in covering my area - maybe volume 3 will do it.

Some of those areaa have private mixed in and the private is now being posted.

In regards to the 'tell or not to tell' question of our fav hunting spots.

The more hunters there are the stronger our voice will be in retaining and obtaining public land for hunting. We live in a country with many hunting opportunities unlike Europe where it is primarily for the rich. Therefore as we spread the word and recruit the younger generation we support our own future.

IMO non hunters and those slobs breaking the rules do far more damage to my hunting than all legit hunters combined. Case in point, I put an apprentice hunter up in a tree stand on a deer hunt last bow season, about half an hour into our hunt all I hear is bang, bang , bang, twenty or more times. As we waited the gun fire got closer to us and we climbed down out of safety. This was in an a public area (one of the ones listed above) where it is signed no target shooting, I found this on the way out:

I would like to thank the OP for the information he posted it will be a valuable resource for anyone just getting into the sport/recreation of hunting like myself.

I would like to chime in on this one as a "rookie". I may seem way off base to some but I think it’s relevant.

I have found some of the information listed both on the internet and the hunting regulations book from 2013. I am currently investigating my options for a couple of the local CA's and plan on getting out, if nothing else, to work on tracking and locating and general knowledge on the way the animals act and move. If the opportunity arises and I get the chance to harvest I will be grateful.
I have knocked on doors and to this point I have had no luck gaining access to private land. I know it may come up so before it does, I have gone to ask in my work cloths, dress shirt, dress pants and shoes not my hunting cloths and have been nothing short of polite and respectful during the conversation. Though I am not giving up on asking, it does get frustrating as you all know and for some could deter them from pursuing the sport/recreation.

As for those who have areas already, and I am not by any means saying that you have to or should share, it's your spot you earned it and have every right to keep it your own, but can you see any gratification in bringing a "rookie" along, giving some tips and showing them how enjoyable the sport/recreation can be? I am not by any means pointing at everyone as I know there are those that would likely be very open to the idea but it does seem like most would rather keep it to themselves. I personally have gained quite a bit of knowledge from reading forums and researching on the internet but there is really no substitute to being out there and learning hands on.

Sorry for the long wind and again this was not meant to offend or target anyone. Good luck to everyone in 2014.

Just wanted to get this bumped back up to the top for anyone who might have missed it last year, or have another public spot to add to the list.

I have hunted some of the public lands listed and I can unequivocally state that there are NO game animals or birds in these areas ;). Just kidding. Good job x_neon_x. If it makes accessing land to enjoy our sport easier for some, I am all for it.

I want to thank the OP as well. I am new to hunting and other then where my brother in law who has got me into it hunts I wouldn't have a clue where to start.
Yes I have read some of the magazines he's had laying around so I have got a couple areas out of that, but living in the "city" and working 60+ hours a week it doesn't leave much time to get out and knock on doors, scouting, setting up baits etc.
With this list I might be able to hunt "local" if I can't get up north for the weekend.

Unless hunters have access to private farms or own huntable land of sufficient size,it's exceedingly difficult for us to get out on the occassional day afield. Waterfowlers are,by and large,exempt for obvious reasons. "Public land" like Conservation Authority-controlled properties are becoming more and more crowded with users other than hunters (motor cross bikers,horse riders etc.-not that's a bad thing) making it increasingly hazardous for firearms use. Many CA's are in the process of restricting firearms use,entirely. The presence of game animals on those lands is quite negligible,anyway,to say the least. In southern Ontario,it's becoming increasingly necessary for hunters to travel 2 to 3 hours north to expanses of Crown land to hunt. Virtually all of the north is open for Sunday gun hunting making weekend camping/hunting excursions a real alternative. It's something we may all to think about,soon.

Thinking back as a new hunter I would of loved this post. Now as a more established hunter a few years later who has worked hard and put in the effort, I'm not so enthused.

My hunting experiences have been very enjoyable and rewarding, including searching and looking for properties. It involved talking and getting to know new hunters, in the bush as well as on line. I spent many hours on line reading and researching for spots to go. I remember I couldn't wait and looked forward to getting home and spending the night looking for a new spot to hunt on the weekend and I still do years later. Like most of life, it is the journey and not necessarily the destination that makes it rewarding.

I think it best to leave it as it always has been, let the newbies come aboard and introduce themselves, search, sniff and kick-just like its done in the bush. Its just my opinion and I get it-the information is out there already and they still have to follow through, no body hunts there anyways and its great to give new comers the help they 'so desrve' and be helpful, bla bla bla.

But just like hunting really is, it is most rewarding when you have to work for it, when you can sit back after the hard work, effort and sometimes luck that comes from it. That's just me, I'm a traditionalist.

Today with the internet it's actually extremely easy to find Crown land to hunt, prior to 1998 to find any crown land outside of the city could take years to establish yourself an area.

we have a lot of land to hunt, but overall we manage it poorly!
all public land (including crown land south of French river if it is easily accessible) is crowded. new guys have it really hard finding anything to just get started if they are from the city. I hunt public lands (needs a lot of scouting to find a good spot) and run here and there into other hunters; very different characters you come across...
what I would like to see is that rules are enforced (atv, motocross, garbage, treestands, etc.).
also, it is great if one knows where others are - just not to bother anyone and be safe!
some marshes use hunting stakes or blinds to know who is where (parking spot). in Europe sometimes little mobile towers and stakes are used during big game drives to indicate safe shooting lanes (for hunters unfamiliar with the area, or generally lacking common sense). I'm not aware that we do anything here on public land for big game hunting (e.g. defined little tracks, mandatory tree stands to have safe backstop, etc.). not saying this is the way to go everywhere, but it might be something to consider in areas that are frequently invaded by pumpkin armies.

I don't give information right away because I find some might not have the same ethics as I do. See I wont take another person's deer spot on crown if I know it is actively being hunted. I will move on, but there have been several on here who said they don't give a crap. That was about 3 years ago. Since then I am very weary of giving out spots.

Before I give out information I meet people and decide if I want to give any info, sometimes I even get them maps, other times I just watch them on here and I can get a decent idea if I even want to meet them. I've met quite a few people on here from Ottawa and very good people, met one ofrom the US and a few from around Toronto and up past Sudbury.

But I like a person to prove themselves. Sometimes you need more info about a specific piece of crown.

Nice thread XXX. Definitely will help a bunch of guys out. I hunt some of the spots you've mentioned but don't see your list as an issue at all considering it's just a starting point for guys and they still need to put some time in to find a quality spot. Don't bother much with any negativity, lost of people have the mindset that if they had to work for something then everyone else should have to do the same work.

thanks .... im not saying i cant Do my own Scouting.. im in London once a week for trade school this makes my scouting limited because im sure 5:30 am is not a Good time to start knocking on doors ... and after school every one is having dinner that would be rude also ... I have 1-1/2 hour drive back home so makes it hard to go back in a couple of hours to knock on doors

I'm all for helping someone new out, as long as they are willing to help themselves too, put in the gas and miles to check things out, rather than just "go here, here and here" and off they go.

The problem then becomes, once these things are shared, over and over and over, and posted, and re-posted, and then so and so tells so and so.

Now these public places, are too crowded, and you can't find a spot for yourself.

Not that big of a deal up here, which is why I will share a spot or two, down by my parents, not a chance. While we have piles of private to hunt exclusively, there are some crown spots to that the minute someone finds out about it, and then goes posting, will be over run.

Are these spots for everyone? if crown, absolutely... If someone is willing to put in the work, to find them, weather that be map books, google maps, a google search, get in the truck and just drive and watch, setup cams and see. etc.

Should they be handed out on a silver platter because someone doesn't want to do the above?

Just my thoughts on the source sharing of hunting locations.

I have no problem with the sharing. I just think it's funny or odd that we are all like mined with regards to hunting and fishing and should be united as such, however, on this site, there is so much negativity towards each other with regards to technique, sharing and overall help that it doesn't make any sense.

As technology advances, common sense would dictate that things should get easier, that includes internet scouting to find spots. Why would someone choose to do something the hard way if an easy way exists? Doing something the hard way doesn't make it more rewarding in my opinion. If you want to do something the hard way, leave the keys on the hook and walk to work tomorrow, see how rewarding that is....

Why can't we just help each other out, regardless of how hard you needed to work, age, experience or location.....

I feel you, TurkeyRookie, but I think the info on this thread DOES require the two-way effort that you're talking about. Just because a property is on the list doesn't mean it's populated by the wildlife you plan to hunt, or by much wildlife period, or has parking, or has vehicle access at all, or offers access to practical hunting spots, or has practical hunting spots that are easy to find. If you want to hunt somewhere because you saw it on the list, you still have to put in the gas and the miles and check it out. You also have to put in some at-home research time, online and in some cases on the phone, because not everything on the list is a Crown-style free-for-all. Many of those properties might restrict some of the activities auxilary to hunting, such as camping, ATVing, tree stand installation, etc, and some have very specific rules. For example, at Wye Marsh I think you have to book a blind for waterfowl hunting and it only happens on certain days (I don't know the details). Algonquin Park (Clyde, Bruton and Eyre Twps - ie the "panhandle") is on the list, yet I think the only people allowed to hunt there are owners and guests of certain hunt camps that were grandfathered when the area was added to the park. And that's not easy info to find.

So really this is just a very basic starting point. The equivalent for fishing would be to provide a list of all the lakes and rivers in Ontario that aren't year-round fish sanctuaries or entirely private property, ie most of them - it still wouldn't tell you what waters are actually worth fishing and which have special regulations or limits on access.

And I don't think it's unfair to provide that starting point. For those who are lucky enough to have a hunting group or camp they can join when they start hunting, their first experience probably is literally "'go here, here and here' and off they go" - to a stand where pushers will drive deer right past them, or to a blind surrounded by duck decoys. Others who don't have that advantage might still have their own property, or a friend's property that they have access to and are familiar with. If you're not in either of those categories and you're relying on public lands that you've never heard of before you saw them on a list, you're already in probably the most challenging position a new hunter (or an old hunter new to the region) can be in, so I don't think it's unfair to give them this fairly minimal leg-up. Not if we want to encourage people to take up hunting, anyway.

Great information and much appreciated - I personally think the more information like this is available, the more "spread out" hunters will be. When only one or two spots are easily found then of course hunters congregate there, but if there are lots of spots with a combination of federal, provincial and municipal lands... then hopefully the variety will help.

People also need to be willing to do some hiking. If everyone hunts a few hundred feet from where the road ends, then of course it's going to be crowded :-)

Haven't looked in a long while but I believe its the conservation area east of Orangeville HWY10/HWY 9. Use to be able to duck hunt there but I believe hunting no longer allowed there. Fishing still good for pan fish and hammer handle pike. Not a bad ice fishing spot well if we get any ice this year.

You are referring to what is called now " Island Lake Conservation Area". Indeed there is management plan document on-line that is saying that hunting should be phased out and the doc is from 1997. What is puzzling - why would Hunting Regulations Summary list it every year as huntable location?

As the guide says its just a summary if you want accurate information have to look deeper. Good lesson though for both private and/or public hunting areas it is the responsible hunter that first invest time in thoroughly researching the intended area to hunt including boots on the ground prior to hunting. Just showing up to hunt really is not the way to go.
Anyways you can hunt there just can't discharge firearms so bring your camera and have at it.

Xeon, thank you for the post, I'm going to vent a little on your behalf, I'm sure I will get "flamed" on here....

First off, I'm not a young lad, started hunting about 6 years ago but have been in archery for over 20 years. I've hunted on public, draw/paid land before and it was somewhat of a joke. Found a hobby farmer who was gracious enough for me to hunt on his private land, it was the perfect setup and I helped him with chores around his property as a form of thank you. Unfortunately, after 3 seasons, he has sold his land to commercial development, a good thing never lasts I always say. So now I'm back to finding public land to bow hunt on.

The internet is a Godsend, it does take a lot of leg work out of the picture but it's not as easy as it seems, even if you find a spot, you still have to go out and scope the land, there is still leg work to be done. For the person (you know who) that said do what we use to do and go out and find a place to hunt. I really really absolutely hate that mentality. Do you use power tools? why, use a manual hand drill like we use to in the old days, it worked and makes you a more macho man. LOL Hey how about this, churn your own butter, eat with your hands like the cavemen did, walk and don't drive, I can go on forever. Spare me the "macho man we use to" BS. Join us in the 21st century, we have tools to help us do things that much better, why not embrace it.

Scradley, you are allowed to hunt at the Elderslie Management Forest. That is the only public hunting area I know of around you. There isn't any crown land that far south. All the land is owned privately, by a municipality or by a conservation authority. Good luck.

Thought I should bump this link to top for all new hunters in Ontario.

There seems to be many of the "pins" that marked WMA's that no longer exist. Many of the areas marked for "municipal " licenses don't exist,either. A case in point is within Durham Region (Municipality of Clarington) that hasn't sold municipal pheasant and rabbit licenses since the FWCA was enacted in 1997,but,it's still listed in The Summary. For those wishing to hunt in the areas so marked,it always pays to make phone calls or visit local municipal offices to ask questions.

I keep repeating on this one (not endorsed in anyway, to be clear), but iHunter app for me personally was the best $40 spent on hunting in general
