Good time of year to plan our hunting time. My hunting gang is going to Wyoming on an antelope hunt this year but I have already done that so am thinking of doing a Pelee Island hunt instead. Deer camp will eat up a week and I always take a week in the summer. Will probably take a week when the woodcock are thick and just take long weekends in the fall with the rest of my vacation days.
So what does everybody have planned for this year?
New stuff for this year...going to give turkey hunting a serious go. Hope to get a beagle pup and upgrade my radio collars to GPS. Otherwise same as last year...which was pretty good. The 'long weekends' in the fall looks like a good idea, but I haven't been able to make it happen yet.
Heading to Cornwall / Ottawa for the Spring snow goose hunt, then onto Cornwall and Renfrew for the Spring Turkey Hunt, Next up will be the Spring Bear hunt here at home, then that will do it until fall, fall bear hunt, waterfowl and grouse openers, moose, then deer, and fowl up until the ice comes and the birds leave.
Will be heading East again for Fowl as well as here at home.
Spring snow goose hunt sounds slick. I grew up in Quebec and used to hunt them hard in the Cap Tourmente area. Fond memories of those hunts.
Finish breaking my dog,get ready for the next one and head to Michigan take in some trials and hunt. Might take a few long weekends in the fall for the woodcock migration.
* More work on the family cottage / hunt camp, hoping to get some semi-permanent watches put up, something that will weather the elements better than previous half-assed attempts.
* Working blood tracking with the hound, and obviously, some more deer tracking.
Lots of other odds-n-ends, just staying busy enough.

Getting my daughter into hunting! I've been concentrating so much on my 7 year old son, and totally noticed I've been such an and forgot my 10 year old daughter who loves to fish, and loves the outdoors - then, when shooting the .22 over the holidays, we had a heart-to-heart - and she wants to learn to hunt! I'm so excited over this...
Taking a new hunter Turkey hunting this spring. Early fall an archery Moose hunt with my brother and I will be actively hunting deer with my crossbow.
First on the list is to try and add to the firearms collection, specifically waterfowl shotguns. Sold most of my firearms awhile ago after contemplating getting out of hunting....big mistake. Anyway, hoping to acquire a Mossberg 930 12G as well as a Browning Maxus 12G. As far as goals, I'm hoping to obtain my Trapper's Licence, find a deer camp for the deer hunt this year, and do some serious waterfowl hunting. Then there's also the possibility of an Alberta elk hunt this year with my girlfriend's father (money and time permitting).
Lots on my list,
Turkey Exam....so I can never see one of those either...(deer and coyote so far) lool...but what the hell.

Spring bear, spring Turkey in Carp, August bear hunt, Goose, duck, Grouse, fall turkey, deer, and more FOWL... Would love to try a snow goose hunt in the future though. Will be building a blind in one of my goose/duck fields as well
TurkeyRookie, do you hunt with buddies or at a guided service? What are the numbers of snows like in that area if you don't mind me asking of course?

Sept-dec 2014 is still a long way off, and way to many unknowns here at home. So any real plans are kind of dicey.
Well hopefully get out and stomp on brush for hours and not see a single rabbit a few more times before spring. I'm doing my restricted course in March and going to write my turkey exam the same day, I've had the DVD for a year now just haven't got around to writing. Hopefully I can then start planning for spring turkey but we will see how much fishing gets in the way of that. I have some waterfowl gear to source and upgrade, couple of layouts will be the main thing, need to patch up my leaky canoe, and my wife is also going to do her PAL and Hunter Safety courses this year. Should be a fun!

I'm going to pinta island to hunt tortoise this spring. They have trail cam photo's of a monster and are patterning it for me for when i get there. cant wait to hang the shell over my fireplace...

Start off with turkey hunting then a fishing trip. Shoot lots of skeet, trap and sporting clays over the summer and then moose hunting and then the deer hunt. Thinking about the controlled hunt for deer as well so I'll play with the muzzleloader a bit and am thinking about treating myself to a rifled slug barrel for my 20 guage 870. B525.
This year we are doing a "recon mission" to the property I own in Hearst. I'm the 3rd generation in my family to own it and I haven't been there in 30 years. I've been in touch with my "neighbour" and he has been kind enough to offer to meet us and show us the boundaries and give us access through his property until we are able to blaze our own trail (the "road" was eaten by the bush YEARS ago).
The plan is to eventually moose hunt on it and build a cabin but for this year it is a matter of taking a couple of chainsaws and just seeing what we are in for. My wife and 16 year old daughter want to go along with my son and my best friend David....should make for an interesting time having the Queen and Princess roughing it with the boys!

I will start with the bad then leave off with the good.
I am giving up moose hunting. For now. I find it eats into my other hunting interests to much. I want to spend the fall in amungst the hardwoods and do some more deer hunting and some bird hunting.
Last but not least my dad and I are building a 32 cal. Half stock Pennsylvania flintlock rife. I ordered the barrel the other day and will be ordering the lock ASAP. Now to find a piece if tiger maple for the stock. Oh and shoot some yotes.
Looks like I have to be in the Peg this spring so would like to try a spring snow goose hunt while in Manitoba. Otherwise, bear and deer (depending on how full the freezer stills is), grouse and definitely as much waterfowl as possible. LOVE jumping ponds for woodies. And fishing. Definitely going to do some fishing. Within the next couple of years, I really want to do a caribou hunt in the tundra. That would be a dream hunt. And I want to go see the northern lights. (I realize that does not qualify as a hunt but just thought I would mention it.)
First is to clean the bush from that ice storm and make sure my shooting lanes are still good.

I'll be doing my usual spring turkey hunting for a day or two each week all season, a week canoeing the interior of Algonquin, and ducking over water every chance I get from the opener to the January closer.
In 2013 I spent the last week of September grousing, 4 days near Temgami and 3 days near Elk Lake. I'll do a similar trip this year, just not sure yet where I'll go.
Two new adventures are on my wish list for 2014.
- a day ducking with a well trained retriever. A member on here has offered to take out with his lab ;):):thumbup: next fall. We had a trip tentatively set up for January this year but the extreme cold and the ice storm messed up the plan. I am beyond excited about this!
- I hope to get a chance for a day of field duck hunting. I'll be looking for outfitter recommendations within a two hour drive of Toronto.
My goals:
•finish my dog to a SH level in training
•run a WCI test and finish his last two JH passes
•practice enough with the compound to proficiently take any animal with it for the first time be it a squirrel or deer.
•go on my first field goose hunt and try to get on the big water and not just ponds and creeks.

Bow hunt for moose with Dad, if time allows. Turkey hunting hard until I get my bird(s) then scouting and land managing until deer season. And of course always on the look out for the yotes!!

First week of June, Biscotasing Lake for pickerel. Third week of June flying out of Nakina to Meta Lake Lodge , again for pickerel. In the fall will be 1 week for the moose hunt and 2 weeks for the deer hunt at my camp near Minden.

Eat!
I will be cooking some of the game I harvested and then traded as well. I will be practicing some recipes for both Duck and Venison and will be sharing these meals with family and friends!
Work!
Sadly, I am a 9-5 guy. Happily, I have a cottage in the Minden area and this summer I plan to get some work done up there. I would like to establish a few spots for Duck Hunting. I will be building a couple blinds but also prepping my Jon Boat to be a mobile blind as well. This will allow for the early season as it is in the Central. I will then be helping a buddy out down in Bobcaygeon set some things up so we have another spot as well. Speaking of work, I am always out scouting, this winter I have put quite a few KM's on the boots and truck hunting/scouting in the Ganaraska and small parts of the Simcoe County Forests. Not so much work, but I would really like to get off the public land. Therefore I will be knocking a lot this spring and summer in hopes to acquire some private property.
Research!
I am currently researching about Gun Dogs, I posted a thread maybe some of you have read. I would love to have one for this fall, probably not realistic. So I see a Gun Dog introduced spring 2015. If it happens that I find a breed and a breeder are ready this spring or summer, than plans my change a tad. In the mean time I plan on going to some Hunt Trials, Breeders, Game Farms that breed and see the breeds I have in mind go to work.
Also, I will be doing continuous research on the game that I hunt (Turkey, Duck, Upland). I want to become more knowledgeable on spreads and rigs, tracking, calling and more.
Fish!
Although I will be doing a bunch of work up at the cottage in terms of getting ready for the fall, I will be sure to get some fishing in!
Practice!
I will be getting out sighting in my firearms and crossbow. I will be shooting skeet this winter, spring and summer as well. On that note, I will be looking into a .410 O/U as well as having a few of my Grand Dad's fire arms looked at (12g Side By Side and Lever Action 38-55)
Hunt!
I have a few spots I have scouted now for Spring Turkey and will continue to scout these areas until the snow thaws and even more days leading up to the opener. In the fall I have decided to omit the fall turkey hunt as I would rather spend that time Duck Hunting. Saying so, I will be doing some Duck Hunting! I will be hitting the Central early Season and the majority of the Southern Season. I am really looking forward to that. Along the way an in between I will continue to wander around the forests and try my best to look for upland lol still trying to get the hang of that.
Should be an exciting year! Happy Hunting Everyone! If anyone is ever interested in hunting, I am usually on my own. Duck Hunting I do have some guys I meet up with, but am always interested in checking out new spots.

Edit: I forgot to mention, I noticed this winter the 10-15km hikes I was doing were not as easy as they used to be. Recently I joined the gym and have been training again. I used to play football at university and was considered a "gym rat". What I am doing now is not as rigorous, but I am preparing my body so that I am as comfortable as I can be when out in the woods, marsh or lake, in the blind or out for a hike!
same old stuff, fishing trip in may, fishing all summer locally, not sure about moose this year decoys are getting to heavy. Throw in a muzzleload hunt, then a few c/bow hunts and it will be christmas. Hope to shoot a few coyotes with my new .223 and add a few rabbit h
unts for good measure and i will call it a year. Boy it is nice to be retired. Oh and i forgot about a few duck and goose hunts,i am bad. dam i forgot about turkey hunting.
