Hi there,
Hope someone out there can help me out.
I just wrote my turkey test last saturday and am wondering what to do now. Do I have to wait until tags are for sale in April before I can get my T license? Or do I have to go to a Service Ontario and get my card updated?

Go update your card. And if you got a long time to go before it renews like me.. I n a few weeks tell them you lost it. And pay the replacement fee... The new replacement should come with the T.. That way you dont have to carry that stupid piece of paper everywhere..
STOP - did you just renew your card? Why pay anymore for an update for the "T". IF you buy your license from Service Ontario their system will be updated with the fact that you've passed the course. They can issue you your license and tag(s) then. The only way you can purchase the license is to have passed the course. Once tags come on sale later this winter go to SO with your valid hunting version outdoors card and valid small game license and purchase. Take your course certificate with you - just in case you slipped through the cracks but I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. Topher - how old are you?...........lol. Did someone tell you you had to carry the "stupid piece of paper with you"?
33.. Yes.. They did.. Till I get a card with the t.. J got enough pieces of paper lol.. (Cant afford the three year tags every year) so I end up getting one year tags... Which means a paper for small game.. A paper for fishing.. Another for turkey.. (If get one)... I hate paper.. Makes my wallet fat.
im abit confused...i plan on writing my turkey test soon. i have the 3yr small game card what should i do after i pass bring my paper saying i passed to SO then what? how much will it cost?
Once you pass the test, you can go and buy your Wild Turkey tag(s) once they are available. No reason to carry any paper. Good luck hunting Wild Turkeys. Where are you located? PM if you are interested in going out some time.
Long before you will even be able to buy your tag S.O will be updated and you'll be good to go. In the meantime I'd:
Purchase a box call, diaphragm call, and a slate call and learn how to use them. Get yourself a hub style blind (and learn how to set it up quickly) and a realistic hen decoy (or two) if you want to try decoying. Pattern your shotgun & get permission for hunting ground. By the time you have a handle on all that it will be time to purchase your tag. Best of luck this spring!
Once you pass the test, the examiner will submit your results on your behalf, he or she will also provide you with a carbon copy of your results. You MUST keep this copy on your person while Turkey hunting. It is the only way to identify to a CO that you have taken and passed the course and are licensed. You also must provide this carbon copy to the license issuer with buying a turkey license.
Once it is time to renew your outdoors card, you will get a new one with the T on it, and then the carbon copy can be thrown away.
Yes you must carry the carbon copy of your passed exam, until such time as you renew your outdoors card and get a T on it.Quote:

thanks for the info guys wasnt sure exactly what i did after i passed the exam. cant wait till april it'll be first "big" hunt
Bureaucracy at it's finest - if you're stopped by a CO he runs your outdoors card. The ONLY LEGAL way you can get a turkey license and tag(s) is to be in the system as having passed the course/test. If you're stopped and have a valid outdoors card without the "T", a valid small game license and have a valid turkey license and tag(s) one can only assume you have them because you were verified at purchase..............right? Are they implying by this redundant reg that there are crooked issuers or that someone is so desperate to turkey hunt and NOT take the course that they've broken into an issuer's office and managed to override the system and issue themselves a tag? This cash cow known as the turkey course should be incorprated into the hunters safety course from the get go.
i agree 100% with stubble bum the turkey course should have been included in the hunter safety course. what do you really learn in the turkey that couldnt have been taught in the hunter safety course. why dont they make me take a deer course, moose, course. why is turkey so special?

I'm now 17 and took it couple years ago, and our instructor gave us all the answers for the test...pretty much a money racket
Does the third point not address this? If I have my hunting outdoors card (says nothing about a "T", coupled with a turkey license with my name on it from the MNR who has the results of my turkey cousre in the system), I am good to go? No need to carry my paper results other than to the MNR to get the license "just in case" the results are not updates yet. Clear as mud eh?Quote:

its just too purchase your first tag, Once purchased all you need to carry is your card, tag and permit.
Definitely hold on to that paper until you get the T card.
I took and passed the course, used the paper to buy my first turkey tag, then after that turkey season threw it away assuming my renewal card would have the turkey endorsement.
Long story short, my results never were submitted by the examiner as they should have, and there is no record of me taking the course. Although I have a copy of the confirmation when I signed up and paid for the course, I still need to take the test again. Trust me, they will do nothing for you. I tried to get it sorted out. Funny thing, I paid on Visa, and they also have no financial record. Makes you wonder where the money goes. I know this is probably an isolated case, but still, a big hassle, so I would suggest holding on to the paper for awhile.

Ok so you throw away your test after you bought your tag. The mnr has no record that you passed because the instructor never submitted it to them. Do you not still have your 2013 turkey licence? Thats all you need to show. As for carrying the test in the field with you.....if you are stopped by a co and you show your outdoors card small game and turkey licences i really dont think they are going to turn around and say this card doesnt have a T on it where is your test? You have to show your test proving you passed to buy a turkey licence. Pretty lame if a co tried to pull that and it stuck.

I have a wallet I keep in my pack with all of important documents in it, it is on my checklist when getting ready to leave the house. My PAL, Outdoors Card(with T, 3 yr Fishing and 3 yr Small Game), Migratory Stamp, OFAH Membership, Ganaraska Membership, Pleasure Craft License, Second Health Card, and I also keep any tags in this wallet as well. I am sure if I got any new paper work, I can easily just fold it up and put it in there, no hassle and I am legal for anything I am doing. It just makes sense to me really, why risk it?

This thread was confusing to follow. In the field, you only need to have a valid outdoors card and a turkey seal. The "T" doesn't have to be punched in for a newbie, because the mere fact you have a tag will let the officer know you have passed Turkey Ed.
The bit from the regs is directed at first timers going to a service Ontario, where they would need to show their certificate. That said, stick it in a drawer somewhere until you get your new card if you want some piece of mind.
Just having a tag doesn't mean anything to me if I'm a CO, in the Spring you can buy 2 tags, from a CO's perspective, what if you just got the tag from someone who had 2? Correct me if I am wrong, but the Tag does not have your name on it, does it?

Yes the Turkey licence/seal does have your name and outdoors card # on it, I just checked mine from last year.Quote:

Just for the record, you can't submit your turkey test results until the seals go on sale. This means the 1st of March. Once you turn in your test, you will be able to buy the license. The license and seal are printed on a sort of yellow plastic the same as any other temporary or permanent license.
