An indoor dog will generally shed all year. Buy a good vacuum. Brush the heck out of your dog. The more you brush the less you vacuum, but you wont eliminate it.
Labs shed. All day, every day, all year. At some points during the year, they shed more than usual. In my experience, it's their only downfall.
I vacuum where the dog sleeps every day (no exaggeration) to get a handle on the hair. It's making me seriously consider investing in a Dyson.
Brush/comb your dog as often as possible. This is where I admit to falling down as a dog owner. I think my dogs are shedding more than usual this year because they have spent SO much time inside because of the weather.
We have a black lab also - she constantly sheds. This year we bought a robot vacuum because we were losing our minds over the dog hair everywhere. I highly recommend it as does my wife. It vacuums while we are at 4 days a week and keeps the dog hair to a minimum.
A friend has a yellow lab that sheds crazy, way more then any lab I've owned. His wife bought a furminator and he said it's incredible. Also crazy expensive. lol
Our Brittany sheds quite a bit. Drives me nuts too. There is a funny side to it though: he loves to cuddle so much that I can actually sit him down with me and he will let me vacuum him with the end of the hose and the brush attachment! LOL! Not a perfect cleaning solution but does cut down on some of the shedding all over the house.
Thanks for all the advive, think I hear the vacuum calling me now. lol
I use the ferminator weekly on Maddy, really helps cut down on the hair on the floors, will never be eliminated but you can tell the weeks I "skipped" by the increase in hair on the floor.
The robot vaccum is awesome for this!
use furminator in the summer for my dog he does not seem to like it but it does rake in clumps of hair. could of made a nice wool out of it... it was so much.
it was worth the $.
Are you sure you have a Brittany and not some sort of "Poo". Haha Mine sheds like crazy lots of sweeping lots of vacuuming.
Well he looks like a Brittany, acts like a Brittany but sheds very little. Maybe I feed him well....lol

I bought one of those battery powered Dyson Slim vaccuums and it does the job quite well. I'm pretty sure they make a similar vaccuum that is specially made for pet hair.
I find that lab hair is a different texture and tends to stick to everything.
I have a GSP and although she does shed, she sheds NOTHING like by brothers two labs do.
Funny thing about all those mix-breed "poo" dogs....they shed too!
This is for the guys with a robot vacuum.

Hahaha! Gnarly! Rather unfortunate to say the least! Good thing our lab is crated during the day!
Or train your dog not to crap in the house :)
Crap happens with the best trained dog to.
Good coat of shellac?
Could be worse, You could have a Curly Coated Retriever like me. I have black curly hairs all over the place and my wife asking, who the black hairs belong to and what's her name?
Not much but it is an area that we have to groom because it grows fast there. It is a burr magnet in there though. I have his ears (and under) as well as the hair between toes done regularly, the rest of his body doesn't need grooming much. He is actually a very low shedding dog.
My ECS sheds like a beast. Big black clumps of hair always around the house, I sweep a couple times a day. I hate dog hair.
This is an interesting thread about the shedding. You don't know how many times I have heard the lab people say don't get a golden because of the long hair and I try and not say anything. My goldens shed but usually just your yearly shed and then it is done. Yes we do have some hair year round but it is easy to clean up.

With 4 pets (2 dogs, 2 cats) in a small house, I see my fair share of hair on the floors. I read reviews on the robot vac and apparently is doesn't work on dark floors unless you take out the sensors? I was worried about how it would handle all the hair as well. My current vacume (dirt devil) cant keep up with the hair. The hair gets clogged inside and I have to blow it out with an air hose from the shop after every use. So now I use a shop vac lol. Doesn't have a beater board for carpets but does a good job on the hard floors.
I cant decide on the Dyson slim pet hair edition or the robot vac. Anyone have any comments on the robot vac with dark floors? PM me if you do please!
