I understand it and I would have to support his actions if he did not shoot until it started to charge again. Since he started shooting with the animal broadside or slightly away from him, not moving in his direction I think he may be in hot water here.
That was ugly.
Im surprised he took the kicks to the chest without dropping. Must have deflected off the windshield.
That said, hes a dumbass. Should have backed off instead of creeping forward. And warning shots might have worked. And why the hell didnt he put one into its noggin to make sure it was down for good?
As it was running towards him at first he had justification, his actual shots seemed to be only vengeance rather then self defense.
I watched the video. Does anyone else see the same thing?
The moose appears in the first part of the video well ahead on the trail. Unless there are other circumstances I fail to see why he didn't just wait the moose out.
Having experience with moose driving through northern New Brunswick I know that they eventually walk off if given the chance.
I am assuming this occured in the States since he had a Glock handy.
Flat out there was no good reason that I can see that it was necessary to down that animal.
Why didn't he just back off and let the Moose go by? It was reluctant to get off the trails due to the deep snow. He could have easily fired warning shots in the air and if the Moose attacked after that then he might be justified. I think he should be charged.
I'm surprised that Glock dropped the Moose, for a little 9MM,they're a lot more powerful than we think. What would ever possess the rider to bark like a dog? It only served to agitate the animal. This guy's just a goof. All he needed to do was turn off his machine and sit there, quietly and be ready to move his butt out of the way. If he had have done that and the Moose still attacked,I would agree that he shot it in self defense, but, what he did was stupid. Charge him.Let a Judge sort it out.
Near as I can tell this occurred in the New Hampshire area. He needs to go to jail on so many levels not the least of which is plain stupidity.
Not agreeing with what he did but to put it on the internet ??? That's just dumb! Can't fix stupid!!
I would not have given that moose a second chance to stomp on me.
That guy is a POS
I'm sure he could have found a way to go around the moose - but instead he decided to try to provoke it by getting its attention - then claims self defense of the charging moose -- kills it and leaves it there.
IMO what he did was uncalled for and he should be charged for that (as well as being silly enough to put the evidence online).
this is wrong on soooo many levels.
insane.
I would love to read the background on the story.
The guy's an idiot. After the first time the moose approached him, he moved forward again. Anyone with a brain either finds a way around or waits the moose out.
Totally unnecessary! Hopefully this guys faces appropriate repercussions for such stupidity
This guy should rot in a jail cell! He was the agitator, let the moose get off the road and wait where you are or turn down a different path. Then to leave it there ? Why not put it out of its misery? POS.
Hope we hear the rest of the story.....
He should have backed off from the confrontation ... And yes he did intaganise it... But the video does not show if he picked up the moose a couple minutes after ... I couldn't see it being abandoned... Bad scene all around...
I'm trying to understand the mentality of some pennis feeling that they need to carry a handgun when snowmobiling in winter. His buddy is lucky he didn't get shot. He totally provoked the animal into a defence confrontation. Hope they nail him, and take away his firearm permit. Dude probably suffers from ""LMS"(Little Man Syndrome). Really sad to watch this.
Very simply put, this guy is an hole. Since when did it become ok to post ridiculous videos like this online? He should be caught and charged to the full extent of the law. A little education would go a long way for some outdoor enthusiasts. Just another example of how nature loses all the time when it comes to human encroachment. Decent people like most of us on here have to be the voice to defend animals against atrocities like this. Makes me sick.
I have a very similar opinion to the majority of the guys here cause ya know damn well he would have done things differently if he didn't have a gun on him. The situation was easily avoidable!!
Do you mean like this person who commented under the video LOL
"If you are a hunter, I don't want to be anywhere around where you are hunting. Shoot into the air? Have you ever heard of gravity? There were snowmobile tracks in the snow. Obviously, other people go into that area. If you shoot ANY gun into the air it has to come down somewhere. Do you know where it will land or who it might hit? Obviously not.
I agree that the shooting was not justified and the guy should be prosecuted, but shooting any gun into the air is not the answer"
I want to post my thoughts what I saw in the video before reading any comments, so here she goes....
Based on what I saw in the video he should not of fired his gun at that time as the moose was not a threat to him at that point in the video, maybe it would of charged him again but maybe not, we will never know for sure.
This is all I thought of when watching the video.

The guy should not have approached the moose in the first place. After the first charge it looks like the moose was going to leave the area but the jack just kept going down the trail and harassing the moose. Hope the moose got in a couple good shots on him and hope the authorities throw the book at him.
He provoked the moose period. Moose standing on a trail and comes at you. Back off. Don't move towards it again. You could see it in the posture of the moose with fur standing up on its neck. Just like when out for a drive on the roads. When animals stand on the road you don't just drive towards it you give it space period! POS!:madman:
He did exactly what he was supposed to do.
The whole point of carrying a handgun is so that you can Stand Your Ground.
I'm in agreement with 99% of the posts on this thread. The guy was in the wrong. The moose attacked he was fine then the moose backed off. The snow seemed quite deep which would make sense as to why the moose would not want to leave the trail if it feel threatened. Had the moose came charging again then possibly a Warning shot followed by one to the head if necessary.
What you have here folks is Webster's version of a complete and total Moron!
Thats a whole lot of idiot right there. I shot a moose that charged at me but I tricked him into it, had a tag, and used my 300 short mag. Any other time i just give them space and we both walk away happy.
Someone just looking for an excuse to use their gun. There was no need to start trying to get the mooses attention right from the get go. Also plenty of room to take the powder and go around, or just sit tight and quiet and wait it out and enjoy the view.
Take his gun, and fine the hell out of him.
Didn't we just see a video last week of a guy getting "attacked" by a baby moose, pretty sure he came out unscathed and didn't require a gun...
They get away with everything in the states. You guys should check out the show North Woods law. It's a show about game wardens in Maine. We would be hung here if we did the things they let them off with down there.
I'll go one further TR.
Why has no one wondered what prompted him to turn his Go pro on? I might speculate from the moment he saw the Moose ahead on the trail, stopped, turned on the Go Pro to record whatever was going to happen, it was his intention to goad it and shoot it and have the lasting memory recorded.
I thought Ruggers post was the best of all. A clear jab at the 'merican gun mentality.
This. ^^
That douchebag should have been charged and stomped repeatedly in guts by the LEO's laying the charges.
He cowardly fired upon a moose that was CLEARLY retreating. His subsequent actions are basic psychology 101. He was startled, angry, and disappointed with himself that he wasn't able to retrieve his weapon and fire at the time the moose was on top of his snowmobile. So, after he had several second seconds to compose himself and draw his weapon, he shot and killed a retreating frightened moose. Had he fired when the moose initially charged at him ending up on his snowmobile, perhaps he may have had a weak case.
But in this case hes nothing but a cowardly insecure little man whose pride got in the way. I hope he gets eaten by a pack of wolves.
What a piece of s..., spread his legs and 3 kicks to the balls!
As seen in the video when the snowmobiler racked the first round,it looks, unmistakably, like a Glock G19 . It also looked like he missed with the first round, hit the Moose with the second, missed again with the third and hit it with the next two. Moosie was definitely dropped by the rounds. Whether it was merely wounded or was killed remains to be seen because we can't tell from the video, but,I was surprised by how quickly the handgun ammo put the Moose down.
It is a Glock, there is a title that states that. Not surprised that it Downes the moose at close range. Watch it again, sadly you see the moose's legs still moving as he drives by.
Perhaps Boob Barker can set him straight. That is as soon as he's finished criticizing us about the bear hunt.
No argument that the firearm is a Glock, however the caliber is in question. available in more than a 9mm:
He obviously spined the moose. That is the only thing that would drop it like that. This is a moron who carries a firearm looking for someting to shoot at. He could have just parked and kept his distance and the moose would have moved on. Hopefully he gets charged and convicted.
Omg what a dick. Why would he not go around or wait. Did he even kill it, it looked like it was still alive
A total JERK... :madman:
I'd tie him up and drag him behind his snowmobile until there is nothing left of him but his little skull which obviously contains no brains...
The video really makes me angry  :madman:
