A reporter named Pam Douglas wrote this silly piece. She needs a crash course on "smarten up".
I for one feel a lot safer knowing that a .50 cal sniper rifle is out of the hands of drug dealing criminals.
We all need to send her an email from the link provided by her name, what a joke as ignorant reporting as well as the police supplying the info
I quess this will mean "quick loads" for muzzle loading sniper rifles will have to be banned!

On a side note this topic made me remember that my wife's grandfather has a picket ball muzzleloading rifle and he said that it was a sniper or marksmen rifle in the American Civil War it's got a Adjustable sight and the thing weighs 20 pounds at least.
Her response would be something like... "well it's black and it has one of those telescopy thingys on it? Why would anyone have a telescopy thing on their gun if it wasn't a sniper rifle?"Quote:

People hear the word 50cal and that's all they hear brain shuts off after that. I have had people think that I hunted deer in sw ontario with a 50cal sniper rifle you have to explain it to them that it's a muzzleloading BP rifle not something off of COD.
Happened in Toronto a few times where they say the police seized a couple of "sawed off high powered rifles". What I saw the police holding were actually 22 calibre rimfire. Single shots and bolt action repeaters. Media tends to over exaggerate their stories!:joker:
Look at the size of the extended magazine on that thing!! I bet you could easily convert it to full auto!!! It might even be belt fed!

I get the part where the Reporter just blurbs out any old silly thing. The disturbing part is that the Peel Regional Police website reports it as a .50 cal sniper rifle.
It will be interesting to see if there is a retraction published. I won't hold my breath.
I don't know, with a scope my .50 ML is a pretty awesome sniper rifle....downright deadly in fact !!
It makes the same size hole, in the exact same place on the bull as a .50 BMG would make at 200 yds...a deer sure wouldn't know the difference :)

They got the 50 cal part right ….. Haven't found the semi auto switch on it yet , I'll look again !!!
I have said it on this forum a hundred times,most police officers Know little to nothing about guns,period.The only guys who had a clue were guys on the range,SWAT teams,hunters,and lads off the farm.So in Toronto that would equal about 500 officers.The other 4,500
were able to pass and carry their Glocks and if you wanted you could qualify on a shotgun.But the general knowledge was very lacking and half the service could probably not pass the CFSC.IMHO.
As far as reporters are concerned enought said.

When did newspapers stop reporting news and become press release editors? There is absolutely nothing in the article that isn't taken verbatim from the press release with the exception of changing a few pronouns. I thought that was called plagiarism...

This has received a lot of interest over on the GunNutz Forum. Further to what Gilroy said about police officers not knowing much about guns - several GunNutz members knew nothing about modern in-line muzzleloaders (one guy argued that it wasn't, in fact, a muzzle loader at all). And this from guys who belong to a Forum for "gun nuts"!
The general public (police officers included) know absolutely nothing about firearms other than the BS they see on TV and the movies. They are more than willing to believe anything about "assault weapons", "sniper rifles" that is written/said by the press.
Clearly they missed the push rod prominently visible in the picture below the barrel.
And possibly the word muzzleloader, or ML II stamped on the barrel or no place to put a cartridge?Quote:

Seems they got the message after enough people posted on the website - nothing stings worse than laughter.
I'm considering getting one in full auto. Mine will be camo though.
