Just wondering if anyone's seeing goose or duck nests yet. Geese are already at it in my area I've came across 2 so far this week (Marden Park and at the "O.R.") and 1 as early as last week. Seems kinda early to me but it could be the weather throwing me off, but not them. Crows have been carrying nesting material for almost 3 weeks now here.
Anyone else seeing any waterfowl nesting activity?
While walking the dog this evening in the park, it appears that there were some geese on their nests.
The ponds that were clear a week ago are frozen again. I'm hoping the slightly warmer weather will melt the ice. Lots of pairs of Wood Ducks, Mallards etc around just waiting for water.
Seeing lots of paired up birds on my property but haven't seen any actual nests yet. Nothing using my nest tubes yet but might be too early still?
Haven't seen any birds nesting yet but seeing lots of birds had a group of hoodies on the pond 11 hens and one drake kind a weird ratio lucky drake. Seeing lots of buffalo heads ringnecks and some woodies. Seen a flock of 30 snows by port Elgin
There are some geese nesting, the older ones tend to nest earlier, the youngsters little latter.
Mallards are nesting as well. I have put up couple of pipe-styled nests and a wood duck nest box.
I have heard a lot of loud mallards going off beside the house. I assume they are nesting
A few geese in the local pond are sitting on a nest....
We've got a pair of woodies using one of your nest boxes. Lots of other pairs of geese, mallards and woodies around. I haven't gone looking for any nests. I don't want to disturb them.

Have 2 pair of geese in the back yard pond, the one goose has been nesting on this pond for 5 yrs now ( gets close enough to house to see its leg band info with binoculars). Have seen lots of woodies, mallards and a pair of blue wing teal in and out of the ponds. Also a few pairs of geese already sitting on the back ponds possibly more that I don't see

I saw a goose nest on the shoulder of the 4 lane section of Hwy 7 west of Ottawa this week.
Have a goose neat beside my chicken coop.. Can try and get a pic.. But the goose is a little strung out.. And well.. Gets crazy when u get close.. I think the chickens are freaking her out..

I think I've seen the same one, right in the "V" of an off ramp? there was a goose nesting in the exact same spot last spring too, I guess she figured it worked out then, she'll try it out again this year!Quote:

This couple has been on our front pond for several weeks. Momma has been on the nest for a week now. Pops is never too far away.....Hiding in the willows here.

Its obvious they knew you were there.
Up here in NorthWest Ontario the lakes are frozen solid. People are still ice fishing trout.
A few shallow ponds are open and a few mallards and geese are on then.
But most waterfowl are hung up resting on the Rainy River waiting to head north when lakes finally melt. The river is starting to get crowded.

Just visited our place on Amherst Island this past weekend. Lots of goose nests - found 2 near our cabin but based on glassing some of our fields there were lots more - just didn't want to disturb them.
One goose scared the crap out of me - I was checking on a woody box (empty) in a flooded treed area and had not noticed the goose on her nest mere feet from the woody box. Had my back to the nest when I guess I got too close and she took flight - wing tip basically hit my head - had no idea she was there. She'd built her nest on a little island in the middle of the flooded trees.
We've also got multiple pairs of mallards in some of the smaller wetlands - did not want to disturb so not sure how many are actually nesting yet.
One of our flooded treed areas holding lots of woodies - I put up at least 6 when I walked by so safe to assume they are nesting nearby - odd to see 6 together, though, rather than pairs.
Still seeing some of the northerners - buffy, longtail, hooded mergs, one of the guys saw a widgeon.
Also found a deer shed in my walk around - nice 4 pt.
Seen quite a few. Goose and duck. Mallard Drakes grouped up having sausage parties.

Lol...We've got a little men's club going on our front pond with the drake mallards. One of them must be getting desperate for some action. He's been hitting on the female goose that is on the nest. He'll sit right next to her on her little island.Quote:

Seen 2 different sets of goslings today in the wheat field next to my one pond. Look like about a dozen in each group. Not big yet, about the size of a blackbird but give them a few weeks eating the green wheat shoots and they will turn into crap producing machines in no time. No ducks yet but like mentioned above the drakes are grouped up floating around sleeping all day on the ponds
Karen and I were at Hullet today.. Big area by the way the geese are screaming at each other and chasing everything on the lakes or ponds. Should be a load of nests on all the islands created be the higher water levels. Water is up and Raccoons and things can't get to the nests with out swimming. In fact saw a "DROWNED" muskrat, near a nesting pair. How much work is it for a goose to drown a muskrat. Saw a few egg shells but they looked like tree nesting bird eggs.Quote:
