Soon! Steady warmer weather and the rain later this week will help.
the asparagus it up about three inches today so everything else will follow soon.DUTCH
I used to go out with my grandfather collecting them when I was young. Its been years since then and I don't remember where we would find them. What kind of forest area would they be? I would know them if I saw them um just not sure where to look.
Looking for mushrooms?? This sounds like a job for mario and luigi! (Inside joke)
I was out yesterday did not find any but it will not be long Dutch
Are morels be mistaken with other mush? What I mean is, is there other bad mush that looks like morels? Thanks
Seabast there is one mushroom that can (sorta) be confused with morels and will make you very sick. If you find a morel then cut it in half and look for a hollow stem. Sponge on a hollow stick, not a brain on a solid stick.
Was out today eastern tributary spots for morels and nothing, got some cress, nettle, pheasant back mushrooms, and dandelions though. BTW The trout are dropping back but still lots to be had.
Where have you guys found them in the past ? Hardwoods? Thickets? Wet ? Dry? Thanks for any help.
Old apple orchards are great for morels, and I'm willing to bet there are lot's of steel-headers that walk right past 'em. FYI stay away from golf courses (poison).
morels love sandy soil and woods that are not dense..........they like a little breathing room
Collected up a bag full yesterday ;) secret shroom spot! took a couple hours to find a large quantity in a small area but I hit the jackpot!
Found about a dozen on Sunday. They were all very small, which tells me we were a bit early. However I read that michigan is having an awesome year for morels due to the wet weather, so I'm hoping for the same here :)
I've found them in old apple orchards as well. These are from Monday.
Great to hear all the wild edibles talk, congrats to the foragers.
Found my first batch. Found them about 5 feet from the edge of a field and they were all around a up rooted tree.

We found about 50 on Wednesday and then shot a tom. Good day!
man i still have not found one
Was out morrell searching.. In York region forest earlier.. And got propsostioned by a gay guy... Not going back to that one again...
Picked a bunch of fiddleheads on Mothers Day.
Yummy, BUT ended up with one of the WORST cases of poison ivy EVER. :(
Haven't found any morels this year yet, but I'm after my second tom in a few hours so maybe I'll get lucky!
X2!
Many members would find it helpful as referenced by how many posts here include wild foods. Maybe a Mod could chime in with some stats but I bet there's a large % of our board members that would see added value to a wild edibles section. I do however realize the legal implications but nothing a quick waver won't fix.
Anyone else have an opinion?
I find mine mostly in the sandy soil. Mostly around elm and ash trees, especially if there are a few fallen over and rotting. I got to my honey hole too late this year after some other family members and pickings were slim. Got one feed though and one good feed of fiddle heads earlier on. Its a shame some people don't know this stuff is growing out there free for the picking.
I got a nice batch of morels last weekend while turkey hunting. This was a new spot, so here's hoping they turn up there every year. I also love foraging, and eating what nature provides us!!

A foraging section in the hunting forum would be nice. In the interm why not start a thread in the 101 section titled what's foraging now
Hey Luke, Brandon and I found all kinds! Hope you enjoyed them

Hey, mushroom experts! I found some of these in my neighborhood while walking the dogs.
Is it a true morel?
Is there a dangerous look-alike that can be mistaken for a morel?
Any tips or advice for this non-forager?
