Nothing that I've seen, Will be there on the 11th/12th wallet in hand!
I received an early invitation to come july 9th but no flyer yet. Anyone else get the invitation?
Got the invite for the 9th but won't be able to go, I think you get one due to ordering …. I tend to heat up the visa card in the off season …lol
I'm wondering if the opening is the 10th, but the Grand Opening will be later. Quite often retail places will have an official opening on a certain date and then once staff are trained and the systems are tweaked and working properly, they have a "Grand Opening" where they make a real big deal of it.
Even if no flyer, usually a new store with a grand opening will have in store specials.
wtf no invite for me, Bought multiple guns and scopes off them just this year LOL
Same here and I live 10 minutes from the store. Nada.
Maybe we should have a tailgate party for this bunch of junkies
As much as I say I'm going to avoid the lines and crowds, I likely won't be able to miss the opening day. Likely head down after work.
I'll have to watch for the ofah community tailgate team
Considering the money that I have spent at Bass Pro and Sail I'm kind of surprised that I haven't received something targeting me prior to the big opening.
wtf I want a invite I'm a member,of ofah,, cdn shooting sports ,,,silver dales etc.
I can see myself spending some quality time in The Library.
I recieved an invite and a flyer. They broke the bank with the grand opening deals! [sic] I'll save the gas for a fishing trip.
Got a pass from person I know who works there for July 7th employee discount looking forward to it
Cabelas is a great store but they have always been priced on the high side but worth checking out if I am up that way. However sail is 5 minutes from my house. The sb2 is priced right in their flyer and the blind for 99 looks like a great deal.
Here's the flyer.

I can hardly wait till the day after, for all the post of how disappointed they are in the store :)
......since when did men become so enthralled with 'shopping' ?
Around the time I was first given an allowance and would walk 8 blocks to the Canadian Tire and spend hours looking at the lures.
LOL. I hate to sound pessimistic but I'm afraid that's the way these things inevitably end up. It won't be long until people start complaining about lack of good deals, lack of stock, lack of knowledgeable staff, poor service etc.. I hope I'm wrong but I've got the feeling that's the way it will end up, just like Bass Pro. I'm not overly excited mainly because I've been hunting for a long time and I really have everything I need. I really only shop if something breaks or wears out. Having said that we probably will stop in on the way north this August just to look around.
In the two Cabellas in Edmonton, you pick up a basket, walk the isles and stock up on any bullets you need. No escorts, no little bags with locks, no I have to see your card first, no writing anything in a book, etc.. It is the same as picking up groceries, the shelves are stocked. Just wondering how they will handle it in Ontario.
As someone who drives 30 minutes to EPPS or 40 minutes to Sail/BPS, I'm glad to have another choice right in the city I live in.
For people that have ordered before but didn't receive an invite... I wonder if it is because you checked the box to not include you in any future mailings or promotions when ordering online?
big disappointment here to guys no invite for me either and I have literally spent $$5000 ++ there in last 5 ish years
but brother got one so I am in for 9th :)
Staying away from that store for a good month after... Every outdoors man will be thinking the same.."get there early beat the traffic".... At 4am it will be a zoo hahahahaah take pictures!!
well I don't think there is any way they can be worse then bass pro for customer service lol hate that place I would think they will see a huge drop in sales now
Thanks for all the info fellas. I had a lookieloo at that flyer and didn't see anything that would be worth the gas from London.
Hey guys, here is the flyer for the Grand Opening.. hope to see you all there.. http://digitaledition.qwinc.com/publication/?i=214494
I got the luxury to go visit yesterday for friends and family guest pass from 5-9pm yesterday and was really excited to go before it was even open to the public ! I picked up some fishing gear and was amassed by the amount full body mounts on display . Overall prices are ok and very similar to bass pro minus the boats and atv section .
Staff was good ,parking lot is small and can see it being a zoo on Thursday , heard their is a shuttle service being offered from the old Molson brewery plant parking lot hope that helps some people out and enjoy .I won't be back tell it dies down so maybe a month .
I'll be passing by this Saturday morning. Do they allow dogs in the store?
They displayed used guns in the library and had some nice pieces, was kind of like the high end section of the LCBO in select stores .
I was there last night and never even went near the gun counter or the library. Spent enough without getting in that section. The discount made it worth the trip. Know your pricing for items your looking for. Can't imagine what Thursday will be like. I was going to take the boys but will now wait until the novelty wears a bit. Had a nice first experience there and will go back.

I went to the VIP night last night at the Barrie Cabelas and I wasn’t impressed. In my opinion the hunting clothing section was TOO SMALL and was very limited and the blaze orange section was nonexistent. I went with a shopping list and I was not even to buy half of it so I will be going to Bass Pro this weekend.
If you are in a rush to go to the Cabelas I suggest waiting to avoid the crowds and hopefully they can restock the shelves
I went today at noon and the place was a zoo right at opening. Very nice store and will most likely never travel to bass pro again as i live 10 mins from cabelas but it is very similar to bass pro in pricing and stock. There is nothing worth buying on sale this weekend so stay away it will be hectic.
I was in there today also. Really see nothing better there compared to Basspro. Smaller store with less assortment in most categories. They have 100 different kinds of t shirts and ball caps in both camo and pink camo but didn't have any hunting vests in blaze nor did I see any blaze hunting coats. I guess camo is such a way of life down there it creates more income than actual useful hunting clothes so that's what they carry. I asked one of the many sales staff helping on the floor why they had so little assortment for upland bird hunters and he seemed puzzled and asked if people hunted birds much here? I just walked away shaking my head . If you are expecting something better than Basspro you will be disappointed. The "Gun Library" is a joke. I have been to American Cabelas stores and they have actual gun libraries with interesting and high end stuff. I have some stuff in my gun vault that is nicer than what they display. This room is a waste of valuable retail space and my guess will be re-merchandised in no time to something useful. they have a better in stock level right now for the opening but so did Basspro when they started. Overall, not impressed. If at all possible I will still buy as much of my stuff from Epps, Gagnon's and yes even LeBaron's. At least they are Canadian owned.
Trombley's in Orillia is as good as any big box store.
I'm not too concerned with the store really, I do most of my big item purchases online. With Cabelas you can have stuff shipped from other stores to this one, free of charge. Plus now I will save even more on shipping since I'm only an 1.5 hours from Barrie, Cheaper than driving my truck there.
was there a couple days ago. employee pricing made for a few deals, otherwise things are priced about the same as bps. it is smaller than bps and seemed to be a little more crowded in terms of layout. there were a few hundred people in the store and it seemed really packed. I will stay away until things die down a little. they already seem to be having some inventory issues - ran out of stock on a few things but I imagine they have a great supply chain managment system. the employees seemed way better than bps - hope that stays the same. always good to have choice.
They also do the price match thing, saved me a bundle tonight on a new fish finder.
After having been to the Cabelas in Dundee, MI numerous times, I'm worried that I'd be disappointed going to a smaller one like this.
was at the new barrie store wed to pick up the new beneilli store was great lots of help and blew bps out of the water in many ways ill be going there from now on for my hunting/fishing supplies
Happy for ya!!! :goodstuff:
Given your location, Cabela's is closer to you than the Bass Pro anyway.
I am located half way between the two and I am passively shopping for a cheap rifle. Having checked prices online and in Bass Pro store, I can tell you that BPS blows Cabela's out of the water by about 50 bucks in every model.
I am not a particular fan of BPS but given the choice, I will buy the rifle there and save enough to get two boxes of ammo!
Ive checked out both and live in barrie. Still gotta give the better pricing to elwood
My biggest problem with Epps is that ammo isnt displayed. I like perusing the ammo aisle and seeing whats available. You never know when something will catch your eye. Its also nice to know the price without having to ask someone. And as Epps is often insanely busy, its a pain to get someone to go into the back room and get a bunch of ammo just to check prices.
A wonderful gun store is Simmons in Hamilton. Ammo is displayed on shelves in an aisle and you can pick the boxes up and look at them, compare, open them up to look at the shells etc.
