This shouldn't be that big of a mystery to solve. Provide the video and the picture of the boats registration numbers to the authorities.
What a couple of selfish, ignorant, sad excuses for fisherman that day.
Good on these guys for gathering the evidence, and confronting them.
Sad reality out on the lakes. Lots of guys do the same here with panfish and pike. Heres hoping the next video is a CO's truck with that boat attached.
People thinks it is sad when done toward a muskie, but when the same is done to a Bowfin, Gar or Carp, it doesn't generate the same response.

* NO WAY am I condoning this type of behaviour. Personally, I believe that all fish (all life) should be respected, and yes, including Round Goby. I just love how there is so much reaction online about it, but I've been to places where carp, suckers, gar, and bowfin are treated with the same detest and no one even bats an eyebrow.
Good on them for having the heads up to get it on video and pics to boot...

This type of thing happens every day on Lake Erie but the species of fish is the Sheep Head/ Fresh Water Drum.
Absolutely disgusting. I thought they handled this situation really well. Calling the MNR and having them on the phone during the "conversation" with these idiots would have given the MNR a recorded conversation of their "justification" for illegal activity.
I called a few years back about a guy that was targeting bass out of season. When I went to the parking lot to call in his license plate number he ran up to telling me to get away from his vehicle(I was standing 30 or 40 feet from it) and confronted me and the whole conversation was recorded while I was on the TIPS line. I received a follow-up call from the CO a couple of days later and told me that he was going to be charged. I had reservations about calling but I am glad I did.......
Always a good idea to have the MNR tips line on your cell. Provide as much information and description as possible. Pictures, boat registration, a recorded conversation or like in this case video evidence. NEVER, put your self in any danger......

I think we're getting a bit ahead of ourselves. This wasn't an ethical sportsman who lets say for the sake of argument practiced c and r and the day came when he decided to keep that one special fish, which there is nothing wrong with. This is someone who happens to be ignorant. Most studies conclude especially in St.Clair that musky feed predominately on shad bullhead sucker and perch. Let the mnr charge him, burn a hole in his pocket and lets go on. I see no value in bringing this mans family into this, we should try to be above that. It's good to be passionate about hunting or fishing and making sure that poachers are charged. I can guarantee you this person is regretting his actions as it is all over all the fishing forums.Quote:

He landed it and clubbed it and put it on a stringer, everyone saw the whole thing and said nothing. So when he repositioned himself I deliberately caught his line and cut it, throwing it into the mud behind me. My friend called the MNR as I was telling the guy off, he said I was only attacking him because of his race (irrelevant) and then when I put the question of his illegal activities (in regard to the snagging and keeping) to the crowd around me, they all said "there's to many of them, there's nothing you can do"
By doing nothing when you see this stuff you are perpetuating a problem. Those that would pull this crap in plain view of others (such as our video star, and the arrogant douchbag I dealt with) will only continue their abhorrent behaviour unless we make a stand just like our videographers did. Keep your phones, and gopros at the ready, and don't be afraid to get good photos and video of these heinous acts, the CO's can't be everywhere at once. If you can get the guy to confess the crime as our "heros" in the video did, all the better.
Well he was payed a visit today by mnr and he will be telling his story to a judge. Lets hope for the best.

This is not uncommon in Lake St Clair I have heard 2 or 3 times from different anglers that they kill and throw back the Musky's because they eat the Pickerel and Bass.
Its the sad truth and most are from the Wallaceburg area.
Guys I think it's very interesting to have a discussion about the ethics of species introduction, how various non-native species should be managed, and what anglers should consider when they catch various non-native fish, but can that be on a separate thread? This thread was about the illegal killing and wasting of a native, naturally rare species that the regulations manage for conservation through one of the strictest limits applied to any fish provincewide (besides threatened species I guess). There should be no question about the ethics of that act, and mixing it in with examples like carp, which have no regulated limits and sit in the "grey area" between destructive invasive and naturalized game fish, makes it sound like the muskie thing is an open question. Not that that was anyone's intent, I'm sure.

I call bs on him not doing this before, he brags about it when confronted, will he do it again ? Probly not now but he still did it. Mistake? Possible but he still should be fined and lesson learned and move on. He has to walk around his home town after this and he will be known for this so he is and will pay for his actions for some time to come. Now days with the www media you just can't brush it under the carpet as word and video travel so fast. Hopefully this will be a lesson to others that haven't done it or haven't been caught yet to think before they do something stupid or illegal and prevent being judged in the public eye.

Saw the original post on here, have been watching this progress and today the guys explanation of how this is totally outside his normal behaviour, has never done this in the past and never will in the future. I know an alarming number of people in the Northwest who throw pike into the woods "because they eat all the walleye".
I've met several people locally who kill massive numbers of suckers as they spawn "because they eat all the walleye eggs".
90+% of locals thrown perch onto the ice to die because "they are annoying when all we want is crappies".
90+% of locals throw ling/burbot onto the ice to die "because they are ugly and we want trout".
I watched one guy (previous LEO- so no point calling a CO) throw dozens of lake herring onto ice to die. But he did eventually chop them with an axe to feed eagles in March.
Why did he feed the eagles with them? Would have made awesome cut bait for trolling! LOL. Just kidding.Quote:
