My Buck of a lifetime scored 191 5/8 typical.

Hi everyone new to this forum.
Well you can call it cheeting and thats ok but the goal was to hunt a deer of a lifetime. Where I’m from in northers Ontario we have plenty of deer (small deer). After hunting for more than 25 years and not getting antlerless deer draw this year, and seeing all those magazines of dream bucks, thinking if only i can get me one of those monsters. Well after talking it over with my better half she told me ok do it but I’m coming to. So i booked my hunt on a ranch witch is known to have great bucks and we set of for 1100km drive to Pennsylvania. We seen plenty of deer on the fist day hunting and right around dusk a monster showed up i start setting up my camcorder as i wanted to document everything. I then have a look in my binoculars causes i wanted a big one not just any deer. As i pick up my gun to aim the big buck started to walk in the tree line. I said SH#$ that was my chance and i screwed it up. So by then it was getting dark and we set off to the hotel and then dinner. The next day up at 5:30 am and we set off to the same location and stand. It was very windy that morning and we saw nothing but determined to get a monster buck i waited out for the whole day.At around 4 pm small doe’s and small bucks (for here) about 140-150 score where starting to appear. So in my head I’m saying that's a good sign finally some action but we wait... and wait... and now there is 30 or so minutes left before sundown and then guess what, the buck of my dream pops up in the corner of my eye. My wife had the camcorder rolling the buck was walking towards me and into the bush to my far right but i could barely see him but no clear shot. At this point I’m saying please God make him come out. But this buck stayed there for over 60 seconds but if felt like 20 min. Finally he started walking across with a nice broad side shot. It wasn’t a perfect shot but he didn’t go 60 yards. And this is the result!!! Shot with 7mm 140 grain bullet 100 yards. He scored 191 5/8 12 point typical. It was 500 acres and only hunter in it with the wife. It was very nice property.

I have a good friend down in Illinois right now at a great big unfenced 20,000 acre hunting spot. It's almost $3000 for 4 days of maybe yes maybe no huntin .. this is his 3rd trip there so if he comes home empty then it's cost him over $10,000 to look at an empty spot on the wall. Just because there isn't a high fence does not mean that it's not extensively managed. the sheer vastness of 20,000 acres creates somewhat of a fence in itself.

The thing everyone should keep in mind is - look at the potential if bucks are just allowed to find quality food and of course get some age on them. We here in Ontario have the genetics to have bucks of this caliber but we lack the "will" to "let them walk" Most times it doesn't matter if some guys let them walk when others shoot them the next day!

How fitting is it that this monster buck grew in Pennsylvania! That state has a reputation for lots of deer and little bucks is the norm due to excessive hunting pressure.

Your desire to fill that spot on the wall justified you to make the drive to PA. You could hunt a lifetime here in Ontario under our current management scheme and be lucky to ever see a 160 deer.

He's a magnificent animal and that can't be taken away from him!

Very well said my friend. The work involve for that buck to get that big is quite a bit. Also the rancher tells me he has to have them gone cause if there are to many dominate bucks they kill each other im sure its the same in the wild. I could just imagine if the bucks around here had good food and less pressure,but for some its not about the antlers and that's OK. But for some its always in the back of our heads to get a buck of a lifetime.

It's your dime, but I can't help but question the ethics and fair chase component of this type of hunt. How many deer on this 500 acres? 50, 75 a 100? How many trophy bucks do you see a day? 5 maybe 10. Even the best deer hunters on the best property might only get a chance at a 140 or above deer once or twice in an entire season. I've read numerous stories about these canned hunts. In many of these enclosures the larger the rack the more you have to pay. I am not sure if many of the people on this forum realize but these bucks are raised on deer farms till they are a certain size, herded into trailers and then released onto penned hunt farms. What this gentleman does with his money his money is his choice. But to me there is nothing sporting about this and what about fair chase? These deer don't associate human scent with danger. I'm not trying to be men or disrespectful just simply pointing out certain facts.

Hi. The fact is that you don't see 5 or 10 trophy deer a day. I saw 1 a day few more smaller 130-150 score deer maybe 1-2 a day. He estimates he has just under 100. And he harvests less than 15 a year. They are not released when i hunt. They are roaming inside the 500 acre fence year round. They self populate and has very good genetics in his heard. He takes pride offering these hunts. Yes you pay more the bigger they are but that is at your discretion. Let me also say i walk in his woods and there is no way you can approach any deer. Appreciate your courtesy, but I guess we will just have to respectfully disagree. Think about it 100 deer on 500 acres, in the wild you don't have a 100 deer on 5000 acres. I have 150 acres of land that that I've planted bedding areas, trees, practice Quality deer management, last year I was lucky and took a 145 class buck. But that took me a number of years and it was under fair chase conditions. Most of us at one time or another want a wallhanger. I just think it means more when it's on a level playing field, in the wild a trophy buck can be anywhere anytime, in a fenced in hunt you know he can't go anywhere. In fair chase conditions no one passes a 150 class deer, because you know how much work goes into harvesting one. But at the same time everyone has a different definition of what a trophy is. I am sure it was quite exciting to see him come in as well. the issue for me is that you use the word hunt and come on a hunting forum to get recognition. This should be the last place you come to share this tale with. You bought a deer you did not hunt one. This is not hunting. Period. Please do not confuse this act with actual hunting. My goodness you do see that don't you? what you did wasn't illegal but as far as the hunting community goes it was not ethical or something 99% of this community wants to be a part of I would bet. That's the issue for me.

when it comes to this deer you are as much a hunter as the guy who hits A 190 class buck with his truck driving at night and gets it mounted for the wall.

You are honest about what you did so just be honest about this being an act of fair chase wild whitetail hunting. That's what this board is about not US game farms.

Your buck is nowhere near typical. Least not for PA. I've watched what has become of the size of the deer there. You Sir are posing with a hand fed deer.

No fair chase there. The most telling fact of that (Believe it or not) is the lack of genuine excitement in your eyes. You know in your heart that's no natural deer

...and what part of northern Ontario only has small deer? Some of the biggest badest bucks this province has to offer is in the north. There are big bucks everywhere there are deer in the north. The fact you haven't seen them all the time or harvested one is not unusual.

I see this is getting out of hand. I guess no one hunts Farm raised pheasants for sport im sure many members do it. I guess its not hunting then. Is it sport? is it walking with a gun? Baiting bears is it hunting? Is that fair chase? I was just post a fine animal that was shot by me. That's it. I didn't deny anything. Given the opportunity I'm sure you would do it. Ir regards to the canned thing it's not my kettle of fish. That being said I really don't see the difference from fishing in a stocked pond and most would still call that fishing so cut the guy some slack. Many purists would say using bait and firearms is not hunting either yet this is widely accepted.

Would I want it legal in Ontario? - No. But if one wants to travel to a place where it is - have at it. To each his own.

I dont think your thread should have been pulled. The fact it was is a joke. The internet cops are at times sickening. I think its all bred by jealousy "that guy got a deer and I couldn't so I had best call him out on something!"

That being said you can call it a canned hunt if you wish but the keyword is still "hunt" this lad paid for a hunt that may not suit us all but none the less some of us enjoy to see different things and were happy to take the journey. To each their own! Whitetails that are bred and released to be hunted are among a whole host of other animals. Pheasant, quail, chukar, hogs and a number of other deer species can be farm hunted. I think the bad rap comes from the whitetail being North Americas most popular big game animal. It is easily and readily found in the wild so again with the jealousy thing, deer like the one in question are not easily found in an Ontario fair chase hunt. The guys that can't go tor don't want to go on one of these hunts get a little cheezed that someone can go out and take an animal larger than anything they will ever harvest. IMO if no antlers were present nobody would care. You don't see guys grouching about the guy that shot a pheasant that was released ten minutes previous.

As stated earllier. To each their own.

Nice buck, it may be a canned hunt but who cares. To each there own. Stop trashing people for there personal views on what a trophy really Is.

Welcome to the forums and keep in mind that while many people here passionately defend outfitters, others like myself are not a huge fan of such operations. That being said, I have hunted on a pheasant farm before and I do bait deer for the purpose of hunting them.

I find it funny too how a guy who has never killed a big buck thinks only a 160 class constitutes a trophy. Can all you seasoned internet hunters see that what this thread represents is everything you rip on a regular basis? I think this fella has been watching a little too much trophy hunting on TV and not enough time out in the field learning to do it himself. Perhaps if you knew how to put yourself in front of say a 130 class buck on a regular basis you'd realize how ridiculous it is to suggest that if you can't kill a 160 or better then paying tens of thousands of dollars to buy a 190 from a game farm is a great hunt.

I think most people know where Blind River is and secondly because someone doesn't believe that shooting a fenced in deer isn't hunting doesn't give you the right to call them Douches. So try to talk like an adult. As soon as this was posted most of us knew that it wasn't going to turn out well and it didn't. I'm not sure what the price was to kill a deer like that but I'm guessing between 4 to 7 thousand and I may be wrong. What's harder to kill, a trophy deer in an enclosure or a 120 class buck in some over hunted ministry woodlot? To me that 120 would constitute a greater challenge and therefore be a greater trophy. Some people here make the comparison to pheasant farms. Firstly, once the birds are released they are free to go where they please, secondly we no longer have wild pheasant populations to hunt. Whereas we do have a healthy wild deer herd. This gentleman was honest and said he wanted a trophy for the wall. It was a much easier way to accomplish that goal, but much more expensive! But REAL hunting is going out with the possibility of being successful in harvesting your quarry. Unlike a canned hunt where success is 100% guaranteed.

Well OK lets start by saying thank you to everyone who welcome me to the forum. Definition of trophy:
anything taken in war, hunting, competition, etc., especially when preserved as a memento; spoil, prize, or award. Now one can dig deeper and say fair chase ok no problem. Lets not forget I to hunt the forests of Ontario. This was a one time experience that i don't regret. The rush, adrenalin, satisfaction, adventure, journey, travel involved satisfied me to the point of any planned hunt i did in my life. The excitement when this buck showed up was immense. When i pulled the trigger on this fine beast there"s no explanation of the feelings i got when it went down. Can i call it satisfaction hell yes. Now if my son hunted down a fawn that's a trophy to me and him i get it!! I doesn't have to be a monster i get it .To me it was getting a big deer that normally i would never get here in the north and if i tried to fine that beast it could take a lifetime around here or maybe never happen. This is one way to achieve that wall hanger i wanted. I have wasted money on worse things in my life and to me this was worth every penny. Cheers

Like many others I just don't agree with this style of hunting for whitetails and I think you understand the other side of the story. I think emphasis is placed only upon the antlers, leaving the story, the adventure, and simply the "hunt" irrelevant.

When I look up at my mount I feel proud. Every single time I see it I remember the many years of hard work it took to get myself to that point in my "hunting career". It took me seven years to shoot that buck. Seven F-in years and I appreciate and remember every single day out hunting that it took me to get there. Years of trial and complete error, learning from my mistakes and learning how the deer use my woodlot. I actually feel something funny inside of me when I look at that deer knowing I achieved a goal the honest way, the hard way.

Anything worth doing is never easy, and although you're going to have a buck of a lifetime hanging up on the wall, it will only be worth what you paid for it. I truly wish you would have been able to hunt for a buck like that in BR, although I'm sure there is one that size that drinks from the Mississagi downstream from Cameco.

I was bear hunting in Blind River this August, why not play the cards you're dealt and go for a bear of a lifetime? $6000USD can buy you a lot of molasses.

I commend you on a fine shot, but unfortunately not much else. I personally cannot agree with this type of hunting. I find it border line unethical, and the goal is a trophy to hang on the wall. As much as I would love to have a `hanger` I will never do this style of hunt for the sole purpose of getting one.

Thanks for sharing, not trying to be one of the `negative ones`, but farmed hunts will bring a multitude of opinions.

Edit: please tell me you brought all the meat back to eat.

I commend you on a fine shot, but unfortunately not much else. I personally cannot agree with this type of hunting. I find it border line unethical, and the goal is a trophy to hang on the wall. As much as I would love to have a `hanger` I will never do this style of hunt for the sole purpose of getting one.

Thanks for sharing, not trying to be one of the `negative ones`, but farmed hunts will bring a multitude of opinions.

They do indeed but not naturally. I am not bashing the op as he seems like a good guy and I have recently watched some of his videos and he definitely has a passion for the outdoors but the fence thing is just not my thing. Check out some of the research done by Valerius Giest from the university of Calgary, he is one of the worlds foremost authorities on wild ungulates specifically whitetail deer.

Those wicked crazy 30 point nontypical bucks most likely had #9 shot blasted into the antlers in the early growing stage while still in velvet, Giest tested and proved that theory and much like the stud bull these ranch deer are fed a multitude of items that no wild deer would ever have available to them nor are all healthy. About the only natural thing about these deer are the fact they are allowed to grow old enough so the antlers can reach there full potential.

It's just skewed is what it is. We have young hunters here coming up through the ranks. MODS pull this thread in light of the fact that we don't want to teach that this in any way shape or form is hunting

him going to hunt in a fenced in property is similar to that in my eyes, same with hiring a bear guide, who has baited a stand for 2 months for you, done all the work of attracting a trophy bear, and knowing when its going to come in... so how is that much different?

nothing against bear baiting... do it myself... but not the only way one can hunt bears LOL only half the bears i have harvested have came from a bait barrel... got 1 hunting a blueberry patch near my house, and took one spot and stalk in a clear cut...

Is there any difference between what Marc has done on 500 acres , and going to Africa and paying to hunt on an enclosure of 10 to 20,000 acres . You are still paying for it , or going to the Dakotas and paying to hunt pheasants on an 10,000 acre ranch that raises the pheasants to supplant the wild ones ,.

No need to pull the thread. I understand that this is a question of ethics and that comes down to the individual. Just because you dont like it doesnt mean its not legal. My fear fear is that any one with a few hundred acres can fence there property and manage the herd and then charge $ to have the privelage to hunt there.

And yes Marc genetics does play a role for sure but I am sure you realized from the research you did exploring places that you could shoot a deer where they show pictures of the deer you could take that there is much more than genetics going on.yes for sure that is a magnificent deer and it will look great on the wall and I am sure the meat will provide you with many a fine meal. As I said I am not her to judge as yo have broken no laws and have done nothing illegal.

These released pheasants would not fly no matter how hard we tried to flush them, they would rather play peek a boo around trees and sneak away. hey marc, thats a cool buck and i think you should be happy with it. i dont see a difference in that and going to a trout farm. I've caught a wild 8lb brown out of the conestogo river. it felt like a once in a lifetime deal. I've also caught fish from the farm. at the end of the day, I'm happy with both... actually, happier with the farm because i bring my kids and get to be a lazy bugger.

so... i think the real question is how a poor guy like me can get a deer to get used to me scent long enough to take my first deer :P

I want to go south for a hog hunt. Everything about that 'hunt' will be handled much the same as Marc's wt hunt... Guided, under contract, paying the landowner and probably numerous other individuals.

Personally I wouldn't do the ranch hunt, mostly because I don't have the money HAH! And also because I'm chasin deer here at home hoping something comes out of the woods. highly unlikely but you never know - right. But who knows? Maybe in ten yrs from now I'll get cancer or something and just maybe I'll change my mind and want to stare at one of those big buggers on my wall! The area I'm in has produced some big deer over the years ... the largest I ever witnessed was 219 ... but up in Blind River I don't think that will ever happen. So he made a choice, and it was his decision, and he fulfilled HIS DREAM!

If he tried to deceive us or enter it into a big deer contest or something else I'd be all over him like stink on a skunk!

Hell ya. A southern hog hunt has been on my bucket list for a while . I chat with a few guys in Georgia and Alabama , florida that regularly take them on public and private land. Perhaps we could look into what it would cost a few Canucks to make a trip down and hunt for a few days.

First off thank you all for your support!! I hope we can get on with this thread. Things have been respectful in general. I'm not rich but comfortable. This hunt was 6k plus travel. I spent money on worse things in life. I never bought a hunt before but wanted the experience. Would i do it again absolutely. Maybe not for a deer who knows what the future brings. Marc has the right to go hunt and pay for it if he wants as long as it is legal there. That's his business, BUT when you are in a penned in enclosure and the animal is confined to a designated area, where you are GARUNTEED to harvest a trophy sized deer, do not tell me that is a fair chase scenario. That is not the SPIRIT of hunting. Those hunts come across as ego trips there are some very good deer guides in Ontario, of course here they are not guaranteed and you have to really work for your deer. . If it is not a level playing field, and this is just my personal opinion if it is not fair chase it is not real hunting. I'm glad Marc enjoyed his experience he sounds like a guy whose company I would appreciate for a day in a duck blind, and that is a huge deer! But that in no way to me equals the 130 class deer that some guy harvested who got up every Sat and Sunday morning at 4am and hunted from Oct till Dec under rain and snow and everything else in between till he downed it. It was a guaranteed kill with the least amount of time and effort. I'm glad Marc enjoyed his experience and if other people would pay for a guaranteed trophy that is your right and I am not putting anyone down for it. I just don't know if it belongs on a hunting forum where everyone is hunting in wild situations.

A trophy is a personal goal and memory whether it be a small doe, big buck, elephant or simply completing a marathon. You may share it with others and they may acknowledge your accomplishment but at the end of the day we are all individuals and for thousands of different reasons we may think how we would have done it slightly differently. This is human nature. We zig when we should have zagged. If the trophy is acquired in a legal fashion and satisfies your objective than you are the winner. Everyone else may be jealous or think you are crazy but that is the norm in any sporting event.

Example: My buddy shot a very nice 11 pointer last Wednesday but in my opinion is not exceptional. I shared in his joy and he is having this trophy mounted by a taxidermist so that he can forever relive the experience.

Good for you in harvesting "YOUR" trophy of a lifetime, thanks for sharing the story and don't let detractors get to you.

Old fella in camp last night made an interesting point. He said all this talk of it being "legal" was BS as doing this is Not legal in Ontario. We have a different legal view of penned hunts. His point was even on a pheasant farm the birds fly free and can leave. So with that he said it's fine not to condem this fellow because he went to where it is legal but it sure as sh;t shouldn't be on an Ontario site sponsored by the OFAH no less. Wise old guy who gave little respect to the hunter and said he felt sorry that he'd developed an acceptance of this act. Worse was that by posting it here he believes it was a"hunt".

So do as you please but the hypocrites are alive and well here. Being a respectful, level headed, nice guy trumps what you guys talk about representing in this sport regularly. Throw in some cool YouTube videos and you're good to go. Wow is all I have to say about some of these posts. The guy is still an Ontario hunter and is sharing his story from somewhere where this is legal. Although I dont agree with shooting deer inside a fence is anywehre close to fair chase, I still thought it was a good story and like the pics. That was his idea of a trophy. I also think there are many places down in the states that offer fair chase hunts and I dont think there is anything wrong with them. By the time a guy leases land, pays for food and lodgin for a week, you might as well go with a fair chase outfitter (I realize this was not the case here). I think most of the guys who hopped down his throat for this hunt would hop down someones throat who did a fair chase hunt as well because it wasnt done in Canada. Either way I think to each his own and if this is the trophy he wanted, at the end of the day, this was just another story for me to read on here whether I agree with it or not.

You're misrepresenting the responses and tone of this thread.

Nobody has said that his is a fair chase hunt. Nobody has said that it was an equally difficult hunt to what we face up here in the Ontario wilds (not even Marc himself). Nobody has said that this is the ideal way they would want to score a true trophy buck.

Most of the Marc-positive posts have simply been respecting him for being honest about the whole deal and for taking some extremely negatively flak with a level head and patient responses.

Where's the hypocrisy in any of that?

A freezer full of meat is a freezer full of meat, no matter how you look at it. :)

To further this , a friend of mine goes to England every year to hunt "driven pheasants " on a couple of large estates, this by no means is a cheap hunt, several hundred dollars per day and you only get to keep a brace[two] birds, the rest are sold to game buyers and then sold at markets and restaurants. To all the whiners , get yourself some cheese to go along with your whining and have a good night.:)

There is a big difference between 20 000 acres and 500 acres as far as a fenced compound. Most animals in SA never see a fence and can run and run and run. 500 acres.......i can walk that in less than an hour. To each their own.

Are there any real life predators in a 500 acre enclosure?? Are they all completely wild deer??? Are any deer ever released in the enclosure?? Are those deer feed supplements??? I would assume they are....again...to each their own.

This hunt is just a symptom of the "Outdoor Media" obsession with antlers.
That includes OOD.
Worst is Boone and Crockett but also applies to every other outdoors journal/TV show about hunting.

Occasionally someone shoots a doe or a small buck. The reaction is always the same-- nice for a meal. OK for a youngsters first animal. Still waiting for the big trophy on a second tag. Apologetic for shooting a small one.

Please, it is NOT just wall art.
If it was, you could buy a replica and be just as happy.

Since an artificial replica is not good enough, it must be that the "wall hanger" has an element of personal accomplishment.
So if shooting a deer in an enclosure does not disturb you like it does for 99% of us, then go ahead.
But for me, you SHOT, not hunted, an expensive piece of wall art.

Media has nothing to do with it. Mankind has been infatuated with impressive prey species for eons; the largest bear paw/pelt, the longest eagle talon, the heaviest fish, the largest antlers...

They've always been a symbol of the prowess of top hunters/warriors.

But i definitely agree with you that the media has warped our sense of accomplishment when we do have a successful hunt on a doe or small buck. And that's too bad, because if the only deer we were meant to take were 4 yrs+ with massive racks... that's what our seals would say.

yes i do agrea with you... as ive stated in the other posts im far from a trophy hunter, i hunt for meat, and i want as much yeild as i can, which ussually comes from a big buck... was lucky this year though and took a pretty large doe. but when i do take a buck, big or small, his antlers find a place on my wall.

Actually, the hardcore QDM guys are more interested in age then antlers. I personally would rather shoot a 5 1/2 year old high fence animal then a fair chase button buck that hasn't even lived long enough to feel a warm doe...if ya know what I mean.

no I do not .I would rather shoot button bucks in the wild all day then shoot anything in high fence area ,the wild deer on are farms are way smarter then any high fence deer every could be even the button bucks that follow the smart old does around all year .Dutch

It's also dishonest to title your thread "scored 191 5/8 typical". That's the B&C scoring system and your deer actually measures a big, fat ZERO on the Boone & Crockett scale as it's against their fair chase statement. If it's not fair chaise, it's not B&C and it's not hunting.

I did not say B&C. Base on the measuring to score the ranch measured it and came in at 191 5/8. Was I so post to weight it? As I have said before and respect everyone's opinion on this thread I to hunt fair chase 99.9% of the time. This is a hunt I wanted to try as I never experience it. It was fun,exciting,a good road trip,met wonderful people,and bonus I got a wall hanger. The excitement,feeling,adrenalin rush of getting this deer was same as fair chase to me. Especially the size!!! Cheers

The man drives a pick up truck ,has a beautiful blond wife who supports hunting and harvesting and just got himself a smasher of a deer yet some of you lads just want to condemn him like he shot your pet pygmy goat that was tied up . Or next time maybe to appease some here just shoot the tiniest fawn , Marc . LOL

Many hardcore QDM guys come on public forums and make backhanded compliments to people who shoot small bucks. Some make downright rude comments. They attempt to impose their view and look down on those who believe differently.

Im not implying you are doing so now, but we've chased a fair number away from this forum in the past.

Boone & Crockett invented that system to compare wild animals taken by fair chase. Saying 191 5/8 is shorthand for "191 5/8 inches on the Boone & Crockett scale".

The issue I have is with you calling it "a hunt". That offends me because the definition of hunt is "to chase and kill (wild animals) for food or pleasure". When I tell non-hunters that I hunt, it's bad enough that they ask if I eat it. If there are more guys like you out there calling your high fence ranch vacation "hunting", people unfamiliar with the sport start assuming that's what hunting is.

You called what you did "hunting" 4 times in your OP, in the title of your video and multiple times throughout the thread including your last post. That term implies that it was a wild animal.

I can't stress this enough. It's not hunting. It may have been fun, a good vacation and maybe felt like the real thing but it's indefensible to call it hunting.

I would think among a community of ethical hunters who work to improve the image of our sport and recruit new hunters that there would be little tolerance for including high fence interior decorating in the definition of hunting.

I'm not attacking you. Shooting high fence animals where you did was legal and I'm glad you had a fun time. I'm attacking the notion that you can call shooting animals behind a high fence "hunting". By every definition, it is not and I would appreciate if you would stop calling it that so non-hunters don't make the mistake of thinking what I do is what you do.

My bad, I thought we were having this conversation in English. In the English dictionary, a sport is: "a physical activity (such as hunting, fishing, running, swimming, etc.) that is done for enjoyment". We are called sportsmen all the time. While hunting is a sport, it absolutely does not mean taking a life, I'm really glad you brought that up.

Hunt: Webster's Definition is "to chase and kill (wild animals) for food or pleasure", dictionary.com is "to chase or search for (game or other wild animals) for the purpose of catching or killing."

Do you see the difference between hunting and high fence animal shooting? Hunting implies wild animals and a chase or search for them. High fence ranch vacations just jump to the killing part minus the wild animals.

You know I never remember Marc asking for anyones opinion on the matter.... He posted his story with his success... If you got a problem with it... PM him all you want but don't derail his thread for your self imposed opinion because most of us don't care to hear it...

Very valid point regardless if one agrees with fenced in hunting or not. As for posting a trophy deer that was shot in an enclosure, in a way that is almost the same as posing with a trophy buck hat you just ran over with your pick-up truck and telling everyone you killed it. Hunting in an enclosure is akin to fighting a guy with one hand tied behind his back. Sure it's still a fight just not a fair fight.

It might not be my cup of tea, but I support his right to do it.
Not much different from the great hunts I've had on Pelee.
There are alot of reasons to have canned hunts.

Congrats on your hunt. Dint let the spot puss's up set you. If your good with it and it's illegal its all good. If ::) had the dough I would love to get a hunt like that. The guys bashing you would have no problem with a fly in moose trip where the moose is spotted and your dropped off a km or 2 from them.. not much of a chase IMHO.

Clearly somebody hasn't been on a fly in moose hunting trip before! The moose aren't in high fences and most of them aren't guided...you're on your own.
Some of the responses on here supporting high fence hunts are getting quite ridiculous....beautiful deer but paying the money just to put a bullet in him is an easy way out, nothing like a look at me look at me kinda person taking credit for shooting a deer inside a cage no matter how large that pen is the deer is always there! No escape and so not fair chase! Yes gorgeous deer but I guess congrats on making the shot.
