Is there any difference between what Marc has done on 500 acres , and going to Africa and paying to hunt on an enclosure of 10 to 20,000 acres . You are still paying for it , or going to the Dakotas and paying to hunt pheasants on an 10,000 acre ranch that raises the pheasants to supplant the wild ones ,.
Way to go Marc you did what you wanted to do and did it.

By the way , you can also go to Texas and hunt exotics and also white tailed deer also in enclosures of many thousand acres, guess what ? you also have to pay there are many places like that on this continent , Canada and the U.S.

To further this , a friend of mine goes to England every year to hunt "driven pheasants " on a couple of large estates, this by no means is a cheap hunt, several hundred dollars per day and you only get to keep a brace[two] birds, the rest are sold to game buyers and then sold at markets and restaurants. To all the whiners , get yourself some cheese to go along with your whining and have a good night.

There is a big difference between 20 000 acres and 500 acres as far as a fenced compound. Most animals in SA never see a fence and can run and run and run. 500 acres.......i can walk that in less than an hour. To each their own.

Are there any real life predators in a 500 acre enclosure?? Are they all completely wild deer??? Are any deer ever released in the enclosure?? Are those deer feed supplements??? I would assume they are....again...to each their own.

That includes OOD.
Worst is Boone and Crockett but also applies to every other outdoors journal/TV show about hunting.

Occasionally someone shoots a doe or a small buck. The reaction is always the same-- nice for a meal. OK for a youngsters first animal. Still waiting for the big trophy on a second tag. Apologetic for shooting a small one.

QDM adherents say it necessary to shoot small ones, but they always let their child/young hunters or women shoot them. The hardcore QDM folks only talk about the trophies they personally shoot.

It's sad that the Hunting Media has brainwashed us so much that we are obsessed with antler size rather than having a good time outdoors and getting a nice animal to eat for the winter.

Please, it is NOT just wall art.
If it was, you could buy a replica and be just as happy.

Since an artificial replica is not good enough, it must be that the "wall hanger" has an element of personal accomplishment.
So if shooting a deer in an enclosure does not disturb you like it does for 99% of us, then go ahead.
But for me, you SHOT, not hunted, an expensive piece of wall art.

Media has nothing to do with it. Mankind has been infatuated with impressive prey species for eons; the largest bear paw/pelt, the longest eagle talon, the heaviest fish, the largest antlers...

They've always been a symbol of the prowess of top hunters/warriors.

But i definitely agree with you that the media has warped our sense of accomplishment when we do have a successful hunt on a doe or small buck. And that's too bad, because if the only deer we were meant to take were 4 yrs+ with massive racks... that's what our seals would say.

yes i do agrea with you... as ive stated in the other posts im far from a trophy hunter, i hunt for meat, and i want as much yeild as i can, which ussually comes from a big buck... was lucky this year though and took a pretty large doe. but when i do take a buck, big or small, his antlers find a place on my wall.

Actually, the hardcore QDM guys are more interested in age then antlers. I personally would rather shoot a 5 1/2 year old high fence animal then a fair chase button buck that hasn't even lived long enough to feel a warm doe...if ya know what I mean.
