I've bought & sold my share of used guns; privately, at gun shops and at shows, and I'm always looking. I think I've got a sense of what used guns go for. So when I go into the used gun section of our latest big box outdoor retailer, I think to myself, "Its the good thing those guns are under glass, otherwise they'll be gathering a lot of dust!" ;)
Some people want new, no matter the cost.
It's the gun buyers motto..."Buy low Sell High"..LOL...
Actually, I see it here in the sales section all time, guys asking ridiculous prices for used stuff.
Not just in the gun section, the hunting section is full of that.
Layout blind, bought 2 years ago for $150, used it hard for 2 years, selling for $200.
Shell decoys, only slightly warn, 23 in total, $400.
I never thought a single shot cooey 75 would garner $275 but I guess if someone wants to pay that have at it.
When comparing the price of a used firearm to new I've often wondered if the seller was under the influence of a mind numbing substance. I feel that I'm better off spending a wee bit more to get a warranty.
Come to think of it, the last few times that I've been to the Paris auction, I've wondered if the buyers were under the influence as well.

For sure! Haggle/negotiate over the far-fetched priced ones (there's no shortage of them on CGN) but jump on the fair-priced ones.Quote:

When dealing with some firearms, the new ones are poorer Quality. I would pay way more for a 30 yr. old Wingmaster, than a new Express.
last auction i went to had to chuckle at what some people bid on rifles, see alot of rifles go through the auction people pay more for them, then what the gun would sell brand new for... gotta know your prices...
I checked out the Gun Library the first time I was at Cabelas and left there shaking my head. Putting an old gun behind glass doesn't make it worth more money. The prices were way out of line and to be honest the guns were nothing to write home about.
As for used guns in general if you shop around you can often get far better value for your money over buying new. I've bought a number of used guns in the past in near new condtion for substantially less than the cost of a new one. Just gotta shop around.
There are a couple of Facebook groups that seem to think of guns as short term investments, they can't understand why no one wants to pay $600 for a military that has had a new plastic stock, fancy sights, etc added to a $200 gun. Any 22 bolt action seems to be $200, any deer rifle $500.
There's a 12g on one Facebook group going for,189.... you can buy the EXACT same one for $99 new at Canada ammo
I seen a single Bakhil 20 gauge for sale 2 years ago the asking price was 199.00 used, but you could buy it new from Sail for 150.00 and I bought mine in 1986 for 69.99.

The high-ballers count on ignorance. My experience when trying to buy off such sellers is that when I attempt to bring the price into the right stratosphere, the just stop talking to me. No loss.
On the other hand, grinding on an already fair price usually results in a missed opportunity. The last 2 doubles I bought I paid exactly what the sellers were asking, only negotiating on the shipping. I'd been eyeing both models for a couple years, seen several come and go, and knew when the deal was more than fair.

Yes some prices can be high so that it doesn't leave you enough meat on the bone to make a profit but in reality what business is it of yours then to whine . Just for your info also , I sold that old double with saddle scabbard for exactly what I asked for it that you tried to lowball me on . :thumbup: . I just picked up a 35 if your interested though . ;) Just don't waste my time tire kicking and lowballing . Were not all desperate . The firearm itself doesn't mean anything to me nor am I a dealer of any sort but don't mind helping somebody out to dispose of an item they no longer have any use for . It's priced right too . ;)

Yes but sometimes you see new used at a higher price then New. When I purchased my Mossberg 2 years ago I looked around for used. Found several that were "Brand new" and they were asking well over 100 more then any new Mossberg. One was asking 200 more. Now either these guy's got really ripped off and paid much more or they were looking for some newbie sucker.
I do like old guns and all my guns have wood stocks.

One thing I noticed is prices vary a lot on new as well... my buddy bought a savage axis xo package at Cabelas for $339 plus $70 in rebates... same gun went for over $500 new in long lac... most gun stores seek the axis for $400-$450... people ask used $400...Quote:
