No reminders.
Got any friends that can store your guns until you become legal again. According to our stupid gun laws you are now breaking the law if you have any guns at home and you are the only one in the home with a PAL / POL
Thought, they were changing the rules?? They were giving more time to renew instead of revoking license. Maybe Mikepal knows.

The online renewal form can be found at this link as well.
Government of Canada Extends Firearms Regulatory Compliance Measures
The Government of Canada has announced the extension, until May 16, 2015, of two firearms regulatory compliance incentives:
- New Possession Only Licence (POL) initiative – Allows eligible holders of an expired POL to apply for a new POL.
- Amnesty – Applies to individual owners of non-restricted firearms who have expired firearms licences or, in the Province of Quebec only, owners of unregistered non-restricted firearms. Providing these individuals are attempting to come back into firearms licensing and registration compliance, this amnesty gives them the opportunity to do so without risk of prosecution.
For further information, please contact the RCMP Canadian Firearms Program at 1-800-731-4000.
They do send out notices, is your address current with them? -> http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/f...renouv-eng.htm
The CFP will send a renewal notice approximately 90 days before the expiry date of a licence. For this reason, the CFP needs to be notified of address changes.
There is proposed legislation that would create a permanent 6-month amnesty period for an expired licence, but it is stalled at first reading in the House of Commons, and does not seem to be high on the government's list of priorities.
The OP would seem to be covered in any case by the regulatory amnesty extended to May, 2015.
i know my mom recieved a notice of hers expireing in the fall... my pal expires in june, see if i get a notice...
It's your responsibility to keep your licence current not the governments!
I never got a notice, and planned to put in on time. Even asked advise here from a respectable member as I'm not good with online shenanigans. Well, as usual, I waited til a week before mine expired jan 27. I filled out the necessaries, paid $19 for fast track mail, and low and behold it was in my mailbox yesterday. You can fax the info to "start" ur file then mail the rest.
My dad received a reminder this past year.
Do they have your proper address on file?
Talked to the CFP and all is good......i have until May 16 2015 to renew and all guns are still ok to be kept in my possession as i have put forth the effort and contacted them.....there sending me the form i need as i cant just renew online as it has expired......seems i forgot to notify them my address change 4 yrs ago as there was a reminder sent to my address on file which was returned to them.....my bad but all is good now.....
And if you have a prohibited RPAL, it is gone for good should you let it expire. You then MUST sell any prohibs.
I always renew mine 6 - 8 months in advance. Also when I send mine in I do it as registered mail.
How many guys/gals pulled out card and had a look...Me....2018...lol
Good thread.. I just checked and found that i have until the fall to renew.
Has anyone used the online renewal?

I cannot see anywhere if I can start my renewal now or wait until the last 3 months or so.. and I assume that the expiry is always set on your birthday?
Thanks..
I see that you can also just upload a jpeg.. so no mailing required.
How long before your expiry did you renew?
I just renewed and mine expires in May. Got on it early because I didn't want to chance being being without for Turkey season. Did the whole thing online including the pictures, couldn't be simpler. Took less than two weeks. I was pleasantly surprised with the efficiency from a government office.
Since I own a PROHIB I wanted to ensure the timely renewal of my permit ; soooo , I printed the forms (off the web) and mailed them with the requested fee ($80) . 2 days later I received their reminder with the necessary forms . In other words : They'd sent the renewal-forms automatically . However , they'd asked for only $60 regardless of being aware that I owned a prohib (all the details were printed on the forms already) . Needless to say that I contacted them right-away and demanded a $20 refund . --- The first RESPONDER assured me that $80 was the proper amount since it involved a prohib . --- After having my INQUEST transfered to another individual I was informed that indeed $60 was sufficient . --- Another 3 weeks passed and I was told that the ($20) refund had been approved in January and it would be in the mail soon . --- Sofar , I'm still waiting !
Got my notice 2 1/2 months before my birthday, printed the forms, got a pic and mailed it back the same week. Got my new card in just under 4 weeks with almost a month to spare.
just a bit of info in case it's not known; Walmart (at least the newer ones) take the pics you need in the photo section. A whole lot cheaper (about $11) than going to a Passport Photo studio (about $20).
Has this changed recently because I haev only ever taken my own photo?
I've done half of mine. Passport style was what was described on my last renewal, following the guidelines on the application package.
I have not looked at the instructions for the past two years.
They accepted this??!?? lol

So I got separated years ago and my ex recently found a license renewal. Expired back in 2012. It was fee waived and such. I sent a email to the RCMP with the file number and firearms license number. Waiting to here back and hopefully I don't have to retake course.
Depending how recently your POL expired you maybe able to renew it, without having to do a Firearm Course and the exam. There is suppose to be a 6 month hold over period for PAL renewal, which means your firearms are cover for up to six months as you wait for your new PAL, however you may not purchase firearms or ammunition until you get the updated licence. Those who are renewing a their POL were suppose to now be issued a PAL. The catch 22 is weather you might have over shot the deadline by not starting the POL renewal before the expiry date. I would have thought they should have sent you a reminder. In the past I usually receive a reminder 3 months before the renewal date, but knowing their processing speed like Greatwhite I apply six months before the expiry date. I generally end up getting my update PAL a couple of days ahead of receiving their reminder notice.
If your POL has just recently expired say with in a month they may yet act on the renewal and provide you with a PAL. If not your are most likely looking at a Firearm course and exam in order to get your PAL.
