Well listening to the debate tonight and think listening with the platforms of the NDP and the Liberals we may have to learn Greek as the new second language
Thomas Mulcair was actually quite articulate. Elizabeth May is certainly no dummy either, but, represents a single issue party despite her protestations to the contrary. Stephen Harper was rock solid and stuck to the Conservative agenda of common sense, solid values and a stay-the-course economic and energy policy. Unfortunately, the left wingers aren't listening to common sense. Justin Trudeau may have well stayed home. He wouldn't answer questions posed to him by Mulcair and espoused the same old, same old, giving a plug to Ontario and Alberta's energy carbon tax policies. No doubt, the left wing media will state that Mulcair won with Trudeau second. Wait for the papers in the AM.
As soon as they started interrupting each other I turned back to the Jays game--which means I watched about 2 minutes of it.
No matter what I already know who I'm voting for and any debate won't change my mind.
Mulcair did a great job of dodging the question of whether his plans for a carbon tax would increase prices at the pump. He did very well last night. Not good.
JT was expected to be shredded by Mulcair by most ( myself included). In that sense I think he was the winner and Mulcair the loser.
one thing i wanted to hear during the debate was the leaders stand on gun laws and registration but that did not happen oh well
My guess would be that neither left wing party wants that to become an election issue after the shyte-kickin' the Liberals took over it last time out. Harper should have kicked the lid off it and missed a golden opportunity to put both Mulcair and Trudeau on the spot. Not one damn thing was accomplished with the yak fest, last night. More ho-hum.
i found this awhile ago , i know its old but it shows something about mulcair that is really scary if he gets in power http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/12...n_6263410.html
Just the first of a number of debates and likely the least important. My guess?
All parties, all leaders prepare for these things like theres no tomorrow and its a chess game.
As we draw closer to the election, the gloves really start coming off. Round 1 is in the books. Theres still 2 months to go and plenty of time for JT and Angry Tom to implode.
Harpers a smart man.
I find angry Tom looked like he was ready to blow a fuse. His plastic Kodak smile looks very artificial. He clearly has been trying to reinvent his persona but it sure doesn't come across as genuine. What I think doesn't matter. He has Quebec and BC locked up and likely a fair chunk of the Maritimes. I still think he is the next PM. God help our children.
I don't think any of them are genuine.
Always get a good laugh every July when they all show up at the Calgary Stampede sporting their freshly pressed plaid shirts, pleated denim jeans and cowboy hats looking like real genuine cowboys.
I want to stay CPC supposing it costs my next breath but geesus would I love it if mulcair was leading. Harper has the facts straight but not with that charismatic flair that GTA and QC seem to hunger for in order to vote for You. Seen it b4. They've over looked fact for flair many times
Didn't bother watching and already know who I am voting for Harper. Can't stand the site of those other two clowns JT and Hitler.
I don't want to vote Harper, the guy definitely has had his share of eff-ups and a lot of what he's done runs very counter-intuitive to old-time Canadian culture.
But any of the other 3 getting a majority is essentially the death knell of Canada. This country can't really bend much further economically without breaking. With ON and AB on the ropes... which provinces are going to pick up the slack and carry the country back to prosperity?
Answer... none.
Time and place M.
:)
The day (likely at least 20 years from now) people will thank Harper, despite his faults, mis steps and abrasion.
It's not enough to look at a party, or leader. Have to weigh what's going on, these days (since around 2004) globally, as well as forge in policy have become even more important.
As you said, Alta and Ont....
Global issues, instability....
I won't but would love to be around in a 50 or so to see if the history books say the same slander of Harper and Bush as we like to say about them now. There was a day when far from all liked Lincoln. Find me any great amount that don't cherish the thought of him now. All three dealt with tough issues at the time. Issues which had them slighted to the point where one was killed. Probably the one we now love the most. Like I said I'd love to see how history writes their story
The full list would take me all night, but that's the case with any Govt that serves more than one term.
- zero progress on Indian affairs after 2 terms, and several backwards steps
- Scrapping the Kelowna Accord
- stomping on Canadian research, muzzling scientists and granted researchers, contributing to the largest occurrence of Brain Drain Canada has ever suffered
- election spending fraud, which won the Cons the 2006 election ( I know I know, others paid the price for it, but I hold party leaders for things I feel they likely knew about)
- Running the largest deficit in Canadian history
- Grown the national debt to record levels
- Fired Linda Keen when she warned that Chalk River is an order of magnitude more at risk of failure/leaks than other AECL facilities and should be shut down.
- He reduced funding for childcare, cut nearly $1B in subsidies for women shelters & programs... But never cut the $1.4B in subsidies for big oil, as he promised he would in 2006
- omnibus bills we won't know the full extent of for another 12-20 yrs
- Spent enough $$$ on 'Harper Government' advertising to eliminate Canadian child poverty for 9-11 years
- changed the old age security system after stating he wouldn't touch it
- Secretive trade agreements with China which Canadian citizens have no idea what was gained/ceded, and now its looking like Obama is going to freeze Canada out of the TPP,
- Privatization of Canadian water, to corps owned by his big-biz pals, who are selling millions of liters of water for pennies
- His never ending crusade to eliminate our right to privacy. I've actually lost track of the number of proposals thrown out, som fishing for public reaction, others genuine, that would grant Govt various far reaching authority to delve into our privacy all in the name of battling terrorism.
I'm bored of typing on a cell. Ending it here.
I get it man. Thank you for typing it all out. The cell phone is a lot. Cheers.
I was listening to CBC radio when they interviewed the retired scientist that was complaining about the "muzzling".
He was actually complaining about the lengthy process it takes to approve studies. And not always getting approved.
The media translates that into "Harper muzzling scientists".
I work in health care research and when you submit a study for approval to the ethics board, it is a very long process where you might eventually get the go ahead or not.
If my studies don't get approved or take a long time, I can't blame Wynne or Harper as they have nothing to do with it.
Unfortunately the list would be much bigger if JT was in power or Adolph Mulcair. I wouldn't be surprised if someone picked your list apart on this forum. :)
Some things, you also need to weigh "A time and place for everything".
Absolutely true the Harper Cons, have run up debt and deficits. Debt, leveraging, more….these can be good things. The question you have to ask, is was the money well spent over all. I really don't want to drag Ontario into this but…
~In both examples, what do we have to show for it.
Ont: bloated Public Service and cost, no improvements in unemployment ( you know job creation), and not much else. In fact, we now have to sell Hydro 1 to help pay for infrastructure (good debt).
Can: Lots
Harpers cons are also the closest to centre conservative govt in Canadian History.
Lets not drag Ont into this, the above is simply meant as an illustration of how sometimes you need to weigh decisions based on the times, (worst economic and longest lasting economic downturn since 1929), ripple effects, and more.
OAS? IT's absolutely needed, it may be a bitter pill but…… We are an aging society, people are living a lot longer, population growth is trending down (people are having fewer babies and mortality rates are heading down), cost of living longer (medical and more) is going way up….and so on. Or would you prefer he muzzle even more scientist, let even more go to help pay the cost?
Good job Stephen
Simply put. No.
The claims of muzzling are in regards to the 14 industries in which researchers and scientists were given specific marching orders, specifically in regards to absolutely, positively NEEDING to receive Big Bro's A-okay before engaging in any relations with media, as well as private investors/boosters.
I have no doubt that you heard an interview with a researcher whining about the normal process involved in acquiring funding and assets... but that is NOT what the media in general has ever referenced as the muzzling.
They could try... but they'd fail. All of that list is fact, and most of it is costing Canada dearly.
On a purely $ basis, the biggest items are the debt and deficit. Some, like JBen try to claim that Canada has "Lots" as a result of the increase in debt and deficit... the reality is that nobody could actually cobble together a list of the national assets or social programs that debt has bought us.
Our infrastructure is lagging (where it's not completely falling apart), our unemployment has grown by 500,000+ since Harper took office and 3 years post-economic collapse, so on and so forth.
These Cons sure like to claim fiscal responsibility, but they haven't come close to achieving it.
And yet M, compared to most everyone else.
Canada is viewed with envy.
Funny that.
Again not perfect, but I suppose you know better, know so much about economics, and further

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe...ticle22246187/
why do you think that might be?
and on
and on
and on
I don't claim to know more. I do follow many who do though... and everyone - even hardcore pro Cons - are unable to track where the money has gone or what it has gotten us.
We're talking about hundreds of billions in DEBT... with no noticeable improvement in infrastructure, no improvement or increase in social programming and no apparent asset acquisitions.
What did it get us?
You tend to follow this stuff JBen, if there was "Lots" as you say... it should be easy to point to at least 5 significant items the debt paid for.
Well I agree with that, completely :)
Hence why, I sort of look at the "global picture"..
Again, not perfect and agree with much….
No improvement in infrastucture? Its more than just roads you know. :) I don't know if federally even that can ever be traced down.
Lets also consider Harpers unreal wisdom with respect to the military, the far north, the north west passage.
Aware Russia just tried to lay claim to the North Pole?
I seem to recall many (especially left leaning people) ripping him for
F35s
Looking up there, spending in the military…
Looking way ahead…far further than many seem to be able to
more
They still don't see it…………….
How much do you think that has "cost" us.
Again, agree with many things, we can't look at them in bubbles or vacuums though.
Terrorism? Privacy things?
I know a little about this, only due to my industry.
It cost, lots and lots to keep us "safe"
Do you think things on that front will get better or worse (terrorism) over the next say 5-10 years?
There are implications to who you cast your vote for, being a Harper hater
without a real reason is falling into the propaganda of those who have a
specific desire for what they want Canada to be. First what do you want your
gov't to be, honest? allow freedoms? more taxes? less freedoms? more
national debt?
Just a reminder here are a few things done by Conservatives that I think are good:

same period, from about $80 billion to over $115 billion, while spending on
things other than compensation rose 39 per cent. And the number of government
jobs increased by about 11%.

*Conservative*
- generally well thought out programs,
- less taxes
- responsibility and accountability (C-24, reserves and Union accountability,
mandatory sentences, C-36),
- likely hood of reducing the debt.
*Liberal or NDP (generally indistinguisable) -*
- billions of new programs (Universal daycare est at $5 to $10 Billion minimum
PER YEAR alone, money to Canada Post and CBC etc.),and billions more in National
debt!
- billions in taxes in the gov't pockets and higher unemployment as companies
leave Canada as fast as they have left Ontario
- firearm laws (using Liberal's own words).. using an Australian model or some
unclear but legal firearm owner punitive laws.
- carbon taxes
- a friend to criminals (C-24, roll back C-36 legalizing pimping, Jons and
prostitution ("a form of violence against women" - Justin Trudeau), rollback
mandatory sentences, roll back accountability on reserves allowing corruption to
continue, roll back Union disclosure bill (allowing hidden corruption to
continue) etc. )
- anti-family, roll back family income splitting, reduce/rollback cheques to
parents, candidates must be pro-abortion, only benefits if you use their daycare
program.
- hundreds of millions more spent on CBC (won't disclose spending even to gov't,
est $26 million in lawyers so far), CTV, Bell, Global don't get $90,000,000 per

- essentially anti-family and extremely anti traditional family, fine with

- accountability by Chiefs and reserves (over $5B per year) and Unions will be
returned to hidden and undisclosed.
- clueless money management (Justin Trudeau - "budgets balance themselves"),
soaring debt (NDP in Ontario, 3X in 5 years, Pierre Trudeau (10X the debt)

That's a great post mosquito. Should almost be stickied & locked on its own.
Wow that was an awesome post mosquito ! I have to go back and read through again. Harper has my vote !
If others have ideas to add let me know or I have no issue if they want to use it
I have too much to do and it is still raining...
Thanks but it is mostly going back through posts on here and another place, some I looked up, some I purgered links, putting them together in an email for someone else who didn't want to vote Conservative but couldn't give me a good reason. I started putting it into my Draft on the email as a copy I can add to, I was thinking I would bomb it here later but maybe some have some good items to add.
Harper isn't perfect. I also scratch my head at some of his positions but then I step back and look at the alternatives. I find both hypocritical and laughable that the left criticize him for running deficits during global recessions. Every free country had to and in the fact the left tried to overthrow the government because he wasn't running big enough deficits. The coalition attempt wanted him to run double what he did. So, is it the fact that deficits in recessions are bad or only the fact that Harper was in office when the global economy tanked and ran deficits? So are deficits in recessions bad all the time or only if a Conservative is in office?
People rant and accuse him of catering to oil production. It's a natural resource we have an abundance of and is presently in demand. Should we leave it in the ground and forgo the revenue? What services are people prepared to eliminate if the oil revenue isn't around? 50 yrs from now there could be new technologies that render oils far less in demand, what use /value will it have then? Harper doesn't hurt other industries when he supports oil. He facilitates an industry that helps pay for the transfer payments every body else feel entitled to. Quebec insults the West but gladly take the transfer payments.
Trudough and Mulcair will increase the growth of debt, it's what they believe in. They will be soft on crime and National Security. It's what they believe in. Just today in the paper it was reported that the guy who committed the double murder in Vaughn last month in the coffee shop had 50 convictions, did 7 years for murder already and was let loose by our ridiculous legal hug a thug legal system. When Harper attempts to reform our laws to reverse this the activist social engineers in the Supreme Court block it. Maybe the SCC judges can chip in to pay for the funerals of those two killed in the coffee shop?
Putin is no fool. He sees that Harper won't be PM for long so he has pretty well told the world he claims most of the Arctic. He knows JT won't do squat to stop him nor will Obama. Within months Putin will be drilling up there. Read my post history and I predicted it months ago. Pulling out of the coalition war on ISIL won't make them change their ways. These people are savages. It will only allow them to expand their barbarism quicker. If we had let Hitler proceed without resistance the world would have been a scary place.
A PM isn't a popularity contest. It isn't class president where the best looking kid gets the job. Mulcair believes that the country could be broken up with a 50% + 1 vote in a referendum. That alone should completely remove him as a rational choice. JT thinks budgets balance themselves and that being PM is about taking "selfies" with horny young women. Can you imagine that imbecile at a G7 meeting? Be scared, be very scared.
It's only misleading if you purposely misinterpret.
Truth & Reconciliation started off well but ended up being a half measure. It'll be essentially forgotten in a year, and it does nothing to fix the broken and ridiculous Indian Affairs Act.
Kelowna Accord, for its issues, was a step in the right direction for beginning to address the fact we need a new system that isn't archaic.
The Native issue isn't something that should be pegged down to just dollars and cents. There's a lot more to address than what point-billion it's costing the country.
Scientific Research - nobody has ever said that Harper's Govt shut down all research nationwide, that would be suicidal. Posting a few links to a few works they supported doesn't say anything.
Not sure how your medical isotope link helps your statement. Harper's insistence to get out of the industry - against ALL expert consultation - and shut down chalk river is the cause of the looming world medical isotope shortage. So... destroying the existing industry is somehow investing in it, in your eyes? Shutting down the nuclear industry faster than advised is going to cost Canada $23-$28 billion... but his shuffling a pittance of $25M to other research is somehow commendable?
You've also decided to mix in private industry research with Public Sector, not the same. Nothing you posted debunk the established fact of Harpers muzzling Canadian scientists.
Election spending - You do realize Trudeau is FEDERAL and the robocalls were PROVINCIAL Cons & Libs, right?
Linda Keen - Do you even read the stuff you're linking too? Read your own link and tell me anything Keen did was "wrong"? She was caught between two power-tripping organizations, while also fighting a meddling gov't that was threatening to fire her because she didn't want to push a facility into unsafe working scenarios. lol
Funding fiascoes - The point was not the X $ spent on child care over other things. The point is that several times in his initial election campaign and for the first year he was in office, Harper voluntarily espoused that he would cut the subsidies to big oil. Not tax them more, not overtly harm the industry... simply cut subsidies and allow them to operate on their own feet, in a freer market. He also said that his gov't was dedicated to helping women and kids in need. Then he cuts the funding for those he swore to continue protecting... and continued to pay private corp to operate business.
It's a moral issue and this one is pretty black & white.
Yes it is a moral issue unfortunately all parties get an F-.
This is true. I was just really hoping Harper would be the one to really turn this particular ship around with a groundbreaking initiative that truly empowered natives and benefited Canada socially and fiscally. It woulda been one helluva feather in his cap and a real boot to all the haters who view him as Hitler.
Two points, make it three. Interpret however one wishes.
1) oil. Anyone see the news this week of two producers announcing major losses due to the tax hikes in Alta. one is/will be spinning off assets, the other not sure. What have many argued here with some individuals about private? And how taxes.......and or regimes that are "unfriendly"...
Again, weigh the "times", the needs for jobs, we don't live in a bubble.
2) the native issues. can't say anything about my source other than the person works in a capacity that would be familiar with some things. Related to me one day how they are trying to teach mothers it's ok to love their children. Suicide rate so high, and the pain for the mothers...they have learned not to "love" their kids because...my take away? It will never be resolved. Pretty sure $ isn't the answer. And despite how much has been "given" over the decades...
Has it worked? Changed anything?.
3),NDP. Laughed my back side off when TM started asking people to send him their windfalls ad campaign contributions. I'm sure many "sheep" did.
GOOD JOB,Mosquito! I just got in off the lake and read your post after I cracked a beer. I think it's the post of the year and we should have an award for that category. What astounds me is the BS rhetoric from the lefties. These people actually believe their foolishness. I will vote for our Conservative candidate and only hope Canadians see the light on election day and do the same. If they don't,we're fcuked, pure and simple.
And let's not forget the best reason to vote Harper.... Kathleen Wynne is desperate to get him out of there. Makes you wonder what kind of back room deal she has worked out with Lite to let her run roughshod over the province with her Pension Slush Fund?
She is an idiot...
http://www.thestar.com/news/federal-...en-harper.html
As I have said before,it would not matter if Harper, solved the native issue(which will be next to impossible for anyone to do)obtained world peace, eliminated poverty and famine world wide and run the country in the black ,it still would not appease the leftist mantra.
You know 90/95 % of the media will never have a positve spin on anything he might achieve, just the opposite.
You know 90/95 % of the media will always try to sugar coat and put a positive spin on anything a liberal says, good or bad.
You know 90/95 % of the media cannot just report the news without tilting the bubble to the left.
The one exception to this would be CBC,they do it 110% of the time,on the most mundane things.
Not sure if this is true or not. Heard recently that Fox News is climbing rapidly in viewership.
Apparently, reason being, closer or closest to the real story.
It seems more and more people are realising and getting fed up with all the spin, lies and cheer leading reporting being done by the left ,for the left.
My bet is big $$ or help in dipping into the teachers pension fund
Kathleen Wynne "should be ashamed of herself" for "jumping into the fray of the federal election"

This is the main reason Donald Trump has sky-rocketed to the top of the candidate list of the GOP in the US. People are sick, sore and tired of all the Liberal/Democrat,sugar coated bullshyte. Trump, right now,is a very dangerous man with an ultra right wing, extremist political agenda that can make fascists look like choir boys. US politics is entering a very dangerous period. Let's hope that cooler heads prevail.
These two are complete buffoons. The media is paying too much attention to these two and are missing the big picture, maybe deliberately, who knows, but, time will tell, for sure. The real danger is Mulcair and the NDP with their idealogical socialist/communist roots. Mr.Mulcair is a political opportunist that has jumped ship with different parties, before, which shows me this man will do anything, say anything for any party to get elected. The NDP has embraced him because they can see him being used to advance their ultra-socialist agenda. If it wasn't for that,he would still be a minor player in Quebec partisan politics.
My take on it trimmer would be, absolutely 100
percent deliberately!!!
JT is assuming that Ontario voters are still happy with the protest vote that got her a majority is still in play. Last I checked her approval numbers had tanked but Toronto still loves her. Problem is Toronto loves the NDP also so using her as a reference is a gamble I think. I think Notley in AB has already scared the bejesus out of those people and I can't see Mulcair duplicating what she pulled off.
Terry.. drove through bradford.. looks like bradford is gonna be red.. counted 15 liberal signs. . Not one pc
If Harper stops supporting nickleback he'd have my vote Attachment 30407
I am by no means a Nickleback fan but have you seen the company the Liberals surround themselves with.
I watched a little bit of the debate. I saw look on Muclair's face when Harper made the point that the budgets his government brought in to allow business tax cuts which benefitted small and medium sized businesses as well as large businesses were voted against by the NDP. I must admit I got a bit of a chuckle out of Tom looking like a kid who got caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
Dyth
I saw the debate; practically watched it.
JT, please don't let the fool in. Putin will make him his *female dog* .
Tony Muclair, I can see the socialist Canada in near future. not him.
Elizabeth May, she has her moments, but I don't see her leader attributes in tough times.
Harper; has proven himself, however he can not be perfect. too many issues and he needed to prioritize, so the others are slamming him for it.
seriously of all 4; you want someone of lesser evil. in my opinion it was Harper.
in the debate from my perspective he was the most calm, sound and reasonable. he is not a charismatic leader, but a business leader type. in the global recession we fared quite well as opposed to other countries. hippies want to crucify him, honestly historically in 50 years, he did Canada a lot.
quite happy with TFSA and RDSP; effing lefties better not touch that !! *mad*
Ugh, dammit.
Just realized that moving to Arnprior brings me back into the riding of one of the least intelligent, full blown inept MPs ever to grace parliament - Cheryl Gallant.
Been muzzled by her own party more times than i can count, said some of the dumbest things ever to be recorded in session, and hasn't done a damn thing to improve life in Renfrew County for the entire time she's held office.
One of the poorest non-minority communities in all of Canada... and despite being MP during a Conservative government... she hasn't improved matters one iota. Can't wait until the Cons replace her. Unfortunately, she's only 55, so i guess she'll be around another 10 yrs.
For someone that pulls in 55% to 60% of the vote in a riding where there are usually 5 candidates running, seems your opinion is in the minority. I'm guessing your dislike for her is mostly founded in her Christian faith - which most of the valley people see as a positive character trait.
I would guess that good or bad she effects more than you. So why don't you and hec cloutier (The other option) step hand in hand of the top of mount waytoohigh.
PS./ I figure I got 20 yrs left on this planet. I'll be sadenned if she isn't MP for all them.
PSS We got us what I refer to as one of this sights gun totin lefties
Yep, and she gets the odd bunt in the nose where Hec didn't cause when You actually do things you get bunts. It's very safe to sit in the corner like a good doggy.
We like her for all those reasons along with the fact that pics don't do her. If you met her in person you'd melt
Hec's downfall was he viewed himself to be Chretien's voice in the valley. What the valley wanted was a voice on the hill - and they have that now.
What has she done for the valley? She's pretty good at getting money funneled into CFB Petawawa, now the largest military base in Canada. AECL is going through some privatization, but at least they're no longer talking about closing it.
Hec's "Get a life" quip at the Pembroke sportsman's club has to be right up there as far as career ending mistakes go.
Has she said some things she shouldn't have? Of course she has but she is not alone in that department.
Sometimes the truth, or unpopular opinions, ruffles a few feathers, so be it. Better than saying or doing nothing !
My son lives in her riding and I talk to a lot of people there that absolutely love her. At least she has a voice and the gumption to use it.
If one always try's to walk the politically correct line , to appease everyone, nothing will be accomplished. Lord knows, we already have enough of them, we do not need more!!
No my dislike for her is from the disdain she shows for her constituents in the form of mouthing off the most inane tripe in session, by being one of the longest serving MPs, yet never achieving a cabinet position of any note, of refusing to answer any ANY questions that are put to her straight, to the point that she completely avoids any debates where she is unable to control who is on the panel.
The only reason anyone EVER mentions voting for her was her stance on gun control. NOBODY can point to anything she's done. Under her time in office, Renfrew County has not gained an ounce in quality of life, reduced joblessness or improved by any other factor one typically uses to judge an MP.
It's one thing i've never understood, but voters in Renfrew County must really love being jobless and living off the gov't tit.
Yeah, another single-issue voter. So bright.
I'd be very interested in seeing this list of things you feel she's got done.
I can tell you a few things she actively did to HURT her constituents:
She actively fought the formation of the Pembroke Farmers' Market, asking local business owners to refuse any support, refused to provide any funds to the market board for building a permanent structure, and when the market founders had finally raised enough funds to complete building and launching the market she refused to attend the ribbon cutting. MPP Yakabuski stepped in to save the face of the local Cons.
She's mouthed off regarding PTSD in the military - hundreds of suffers of which are her constituents
After taking an initially strong stance against the windmill & solar projects that were being approved in the mid-2000s, she's gone quite silent on it the last 2 years and there are several massive projects that seem to now be getting her approval.
What a load of dung.
CFB Petawawa gets it's funding depending on the units stationed there. Decisions which MP Gallant has absolutely nothing to do with. In fact, the only thing she's done for CFs, is stir up crap with her comment that there's no stigma within the CFs against those suffering PTSD.
I wish we had the "throbbing heart" emoticon
When they had me in the holding cell in emirates air dubai was I some glad to hear her voice in THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT est time doing what she could and I might add did help tremendously to get me out. She has more than lead Canadas right to bare arms movement, plus as has been mentioned turned Petawawa base from ruins to riches. Her poo poo don't tink
I can't really believe you posted that...
The units that get stationed there are a result of federal MPs lobbying the decision makers for various military units to be stationed at bases in their ridings. They don't just pull these out of a hat.
You're more than a little naïve about politics if you believe that the government decision to dump the money they did into Petawawa was a random one. Federal money gets spent in particular ridings for a reason.
As far as federal MPs that don't make cabinet, former RNP MP Len Hopkins (LIB) would hold the record for that. What keeps Gallant out of cabinet is here nature to say what's on her mind, not what's politically correct - another character trait valley people see as being positive.
For a guy that grew up in the valley, you seem out of touch with the people up there.
Who said anything about random?
Canada needed its largest base to be A) closer to Ottawa and B) capable of expansive growth. Of all the ON & QC bases, only Petawawa fit the bill. Kingston is too built up & too close to the US border. Same goes for Montreal.
Federal money went to CFB Petawawa because it filled all their needs, immediately. The fact you honestly believe that the Member of Parliament Harper has muzzled numerous times, hung out to dry twice, and trusted her with cabinet authority NEVER... was responsible for Defense spending, is laughable.
I know how plenty of valley folks feel, i'm not baffled about why a majority votes conservative, i'm baffled as to why they don't demand someone better to represent conservatives. The pro-gun sentiment is not Gallant's alone, it was the Conservative party line. It's not like any other Conservative candidate would be anti-gun.
There's a difference between speaking out in a non-politically correct sense... and just plain old speaking out stupidly - as she has done time and time and time again.
As far as I was taught, it is not Christian to yell "FAG" across the commons at colleagues - "Judge not..."
It is not Christian to lie, yet she has done so time and time again and been forced to rescind such comments and make apologies for them... "thou shalt not bear false witness..."
Renfrew County voters, jobless and living off government tilt, wow.
Don't think you should repeat that , out loud if and when you do move. And be prepared to duck if you do. The valley folks wouldn't take to kind to those words.
Kind of wondering why you would want to move a place, where you insinuate, they don't work and collect government handouts!!!????
I grew up there, worked construction & factory labour & seasonal jobs just like many, many others. Collected the unemployment just like many, many others.
Anyone tries to claim it isn't a fact of valley life, is either clueless, or lying. It's not about the people. Offer most of them a secure, full time, year round job and they're going to jump at the chance. It's about the MPs & MPPs they vote in that have been failing them ever since the recession of the 80s.
I might suggest M, that while definitely under the umbrella of the feds, if that is your issue ( lack of effort on the part of MPs and govt creating jobs)
That's more the provincial govt's domain, and while lots might be said about N and S Ontario. The past 15 years have been anything but "fair" or even kind to rural Ontario.
Put the bullseye where it belongs.
Not only did Renfrew county get the manufacturing sector problems the rest of the province did, but also the mad cow scare knocked the crap out of beef prices for 10+ years hurting the agricultural sector and the forestry sector, once the cornerstone of the economy is pretty well dead.
