Looks like possibly your neighbors walking the dog.
How likely is someone to tell you it was them? As swamp singer said, it's likely one of your neighbours. If you are worried about people being on your property, you may want to post it. Good luck.
Many signs, and a gate, and no one lives within 5km.
Not trying to hide with a jacket like that. She'll be easy to spot
I'm surprised your camera was still there. The couple seem to look directly at it!
It is all good until your stuff goes missing.
It's no biggie to some, but it's still trespassing. No different than walking into someone's back yard in town and looking around then right? Guaranteed if I was to walk around town and do that I would be in the back seat of a cruiser trying to explain myself. Why do people feel it's just ok to walk thru others property without permission? ASK first to go for a walk chances are you will be able to.
Prob out checking their meth lab....just kidding prob out for a harmless walk
I agree 100%, this is a big deal.
We had some issues with people who always used to walk the dog on that property so why is it a problem now? They then started to claim that it was not private property and was crown land even though they walked around the gate with a huge sign on it.
Thanks guys, I am just so tired of hearing people say they aren't hurting anything they are just out walking. If they want to go walking then fine, ask first period. It's not right to just go wandering on someone else's property. My back forty is no different than a towns persons backyard. I leave things in my stands that I don't want messed with, I am careful not to go in areas that I know are bedding areas I stay out of the section for a reason. I am respectful to the neighbors property, lived here for 8 yrs and never been thru the whole concession cause I haven't asked for permission. I hear people say they can't find places to hunt so they sneak in places. Well no wonder you can't find a place, property owners are tired of trespassers. It amazes me when you find garbage in the bush and you know it's not from yourself or ones with permission. I was tired of looking for places to hunt and not be bothered by people that didn't have permission and interrupted your hunt. I made it a goal to own my own property. I worked 3 jobs for quite some time and bought my little piece of heaven so I wouldn't have to worry about not having a place to hunt. If I could do it so can others if they want to have a place to walk the dog without having to ask for permission. My rant
I notice that the first pics are two weeks apart (assuming your date timer is accurate) the first on a Saturday and the second on a Monday roughly around the same time of day. If nobody lives within 5Kms,it would seem that these folks have found a quiet place for a walk or are checking out the property (local realtors). Have you seen them since? Are there cottagers around rather than full time residents? If you can establish any kind of pattern when they're showing up,you could simply be there at the same time and have a chat.
My friend had the same problem which he solved by posting No Trespassing signs with another under them that said "Be advised that trap lines are present. Enter at your own risk." It stopped the Tilley hat crew, instantly.
Doesnt seem like a problem to me, just a couple out for a walk. I think your getting bent out of shape over nothing. Its people like you that drive me insane, you must be a only child.
Some people work very hard to obtain their little piece of "Gods Country" for their own use. That's their land, and their property. They don't have to share it with anyone if they don't choose to. People walking onto posted land is not only an offence, but it actually is a "big deal" as you seem to want to ignore. Making generalizations like " You must be an only child" is an uncalled for ad-hominem attack that lends nothing to the discussion.
Go buy 100 acres of prime mixed bush, full of game and possibilities. Post it, and then watch people ignore that, and use YOUR property illegally.....let's talk then....
It is a big deal if they walk right by the posted signs. That tells you they don't care one bit, not even enough to ask .... they wouldn't do it in town but feel free to do it out in the country. I have a couple of different pieces of land and usually I run into trespassers just after purchase, could this be the case? Once I talk to them amicably they usually stay out. I had two older gentlemen who loved to trespass on my land hunting deer usually from their ATVs. They figured it was their right as old so and so owned the land fifty years ago. Multiple warnings did not stop these guys and finally I asked them for their addresses the last time I caught them there during muzzleloader season and gave them the ultimatum to start paying the taxes on the property or perhaps be charged with trespass. I was called a few choice names but haven't seen them since. Folks work hard to purchase land, improve habitat etc... any decent person would ask first ... the ones that don't ask are likely the ones you wouldn't let on the land in the first place!
Innocent enough looking walk through the woods, or is it a scouting mission checking for signs of game? Appearances can be deceiving, maybe the next time the guy shows up with a gun and not a gal. It's not a matter to be dismissed lightly.
You don't stop hunting because you grow old. You grow old because you stop hunting.
- Gun Nut
It's me. 2nd picture. Deer in the top left corner. I was wearing my halloween costume.
Trespassing whether innocent or malicious is trespassing especially if you walk right by a private property/ no trespassing sign and/or gate without permission. You should post the picture of the trespassers under your sign and say it includes you too!
I'll bet the folks that are ok with random people "taking a stroll" on posted land are full fledged trespassers themselves. It's not their property, they didn't pay for it, don't pay taxes have absolutely zero right to be there.
If I was more organized I'd post pics of the ATV riders, the dirt bikers, the hunters, the dogs with GPS collars etc etc. More trespassers then game some months. I have a cabin and all kinds of gear. If something burns down or an ATV or generator walks away, what do I do? Many signs and a gate and people still walk straight through.
First of all,I wouldn't leave anything expensive laying around or it will certainly grow feet. Make an official complaint to the Police and ask them to step up local patrols and request trespassing charges be laid whenever possible. One or two more cameras around in strategic locations to capture license plate numbers wouldn't hurt, either. This is the main drawback of owning accessible rural property. If no one is around for any length of time, there's no consequences for trespassers. Especially with locals who may have had permission to hunt the area some time ago, they see that as tacit approval to use the property. It makes one wonder if it's at all worth the aggravation.
It doesn't seem like a big deal but trespassing "strollers" or dog walkers can muck up your hunting spot pretty quickly. If it's a constant issue, your little slice of hunting heaven can turn into an area that most game animals will avoid due to too much human or dog presence.
I have to side with the "it's a big deal" crowd on this one.
I'd be more concerned about dirt bikers and ATV's. They can completely destroy an area in no time flat and must be stopped at all costs. Just look at some of our Conservation Authority areas. They're ruined.

So OK to break the law and trespass on marked private property?? I don't remember there being a law saying you need to give contact info.
Choosing which laws you want to obey eh??? Yet you say my family was bad because they poached to feed their family back in the 50's.
You are quite the flip flopper.
Why???? You want them to call, then make it easy for them. When you then confront them, they would not be able to say, ' I did not know who to call' ,and remove from the trespassers one more excuse for their crime. Still following my posts I see GW. Quite the man crush you have there. No flip flop, I have NEVER said trespassing or poaching is okay. Both are wrong for whatever reason.
Drive the 5km and ask around who owns the property. If no one knows then your SOL and find somewhere else. Because you cant find the owner does not give you the right to tresspass. Go to the local park if you dont want to be bothered asking, or buy your own piece of land. Nothing makes land owners more upset than seeing tresspassers. Some dont care your there but i would bet they still wished you would have asked so they know whats going on. As far as i am cocerned it shoudnt be up to the property owner to have to post there land but for people to use there head and realize they dont own the land so they must find out who does and ask to go on the property.
I agree, but don't say YOU WANT people to call and then not make it easy for them to do so. I know, I know, you do not really want them to call , you just want them to stay out. Well maybe a quick phone conversation would help in that regard. I bet if you had the people on that cameras phone #, you would be calling them.(And so you should).
Do care if they call or talk in person but ask! If you can't ask the person then stay the f'n out period. You don't own it or pay the taxes just cause it's not EASY for you to get ahold of the owner means little to me or by the looks of it the majority of us. Trespassing is trespassing and against the law and makes all hunters that stay within the law look bad
I agree I am on your side , but I also think that YOU would be wanting them to call, NO?
No I think its a good idea, maybe make it a law, that all landowners, must put their phone number against the no trespassing signs. This will definitely make it easier for me to ask about hunting.... :silly:
This makes no senses at all.
He has the property gated and posted as no trespassing. Why would he leave contact info? He never once mentioned wanting people to ask permisssion to access his property he wants to keep them out period. If you make it more difficult for people they will not call....these people ignored the gate and the signs but they are going to stop and call to ask permission? Give your head a shake! It is not his responsibility to make his private property easily accessible to random people that want access. He had it posted, they should stay out. If he wanted people walking around on his property he probably wouldnt have signs or a gate or be posting on the internet asking if people recognize the trespassers he rightly doesnt want on his land.
A no trespassing sign is as crystal clear as it gets. It usually means you dont want to be disturbed whether in person or on your property. Your idea that landowners should be leaving personal information so that strangers can contact them to ask if they can go on their property that is clearly posted that they dont want anyone on it is ridiculous. No trespassing means no trespassing it doesnt mean bug the owner at home or over the phone it means stay out! Im sure if the owner was open to sharing the property it would be posted no trespassing without permission or something along those lines. Again the op never complained about people not asking permission or wanting people to call or knock on his door to ask permission he wants them to stay off his land and that should be respected without question.
Yes signs have my name, phone and email. Been up for years. Still in very good shape. Never a call or email received. I have connected with all the adjacent land owners - say 1km in every direction (all vacant land - no residents for miles). Neighbours have permission to stroll through, but they rarely if ever do.
Good for you, for having no fear of others knowing the phone # of who owns the property, and giving permission for neighbors to walk through, they will now be an asset to watch over your land. Guess you were not receiving calls from Tom Dick or Harry, as per post 42.
Enlisting the help of neighbors to keep an eye on the property is always the best common sense approach, especially, asking them to call the police when they see or hear people on the property that the owner has indicated shouldn't be there. It will also be necessary to tell the police that there's on-going issues. They can't help if they don't know about it.
These are adults in the trailcam photos who walked right by no tresspassing signs. Pretty clear what their ethics and mentality are. If genuinely interested in finding out who land owners are it takes some effort and legwork but is doable. I would provide the photos to local LEO as evidence and officially register a complaint and ask for their assistance. I don't expect them to actually help but if somehow you caught the trespassers yourself you have a better case..
Our signs have the name of the camp on it. Maybe that's why the sign on our gate has been shot up the last 2 years.
You can tell the couple are not married to each other cuz they are holding hands so do you really what to hunt them down.
print off copies of the people and post the pictures on your gate beside the no tresspassing sign
^^^^^^^ I like this idea ^^^^^^^^^
they don't exactly look like poachers... husband and wife just going for a stroll... wouldn't sweat it
Splaker that is NOT what he wants to hear, anybody on your land is not acceptable it seems.
The problem with allowing people to trespass on your property is they begin to believe it is their given right. There was a member on here who had an anti hunter interfering with his hunts on his property, turns out she was also using his property for cross country skiing for the Bed and breakfast she was running. If the land is posted they have no right to be there.
fishermccann Would you like it if people went in your back yard to hang out, maybe when nobody is home?
That's not what he wants to hear GW.
Would anybody mind if I walked into your house? Why would it be ok to walk into someones back 40 if you wouldn't let people walk into backyard/house.
For those thinking its just a couple out for a walk, they aren't hurting anything.
Well aside from all the above, trespassing where a private property, lets stress that word private property owner hunts....Could ruin a hunt, a day, a life
But maybe the couple trespassers can't afford they're own property. It's only fair they use someone else's no?
Actually at the cottage I have a game camera on my boat at the dock. I have seen many pictures of the neighbors kids,(3 aged 8-12) a couple of doors down fishing off my dock when we are not there. Does not bother me, as long as they do not do any damage to the boat. Yes I do understand why people do not want others on their property when they are not there .
It's shocking to me to see how many folks think "ah they look nice, no biggie". These people are breaking the law, plain and simple, they should buy their own land, pay property tax on said land or stay on public land. Is that such a hard concept for people these days?
Regarding another thread, just wondering if the couple are on a road allowance that runs thru or adjacent to the property.
Frankly I have to agree..trespassing is trespassing. If you don't own it. Don't have permission to be on it. Stay the hell off it. I've had so many issues in and out of hunting seasons... it's very frustrating
This does remind me of the Sunday Hunting issues and debate a couple years ago. People were arguing that they wanted to go for walks and enjoy nature and not have to worry about hunters. Yet Sunday hunting was only going to be allowed on private property. Guess it was the trespassers enjoying these uninhibited walks in the bush...
I wouldn't worry about them going for a nice nature walk, no harm to anyone. I would worry more about the thieves or unethical hunters trespassing to steal or hunt on your property.
just my opinion anyways
You don't worry about one person there, then another, then one of them sees your treestands and in no time your stuff is missing, you find beer bottles smashed all over the place, gut piles and people claiming they have been hunting there for years.
It is a slippery slope.
If you do not have permission to be there stay the hell off.
I can understand what you guys are saying as well. I am speaking from experience, I do own some property up north and every spring when I go up there do I see beer bottles on my shoreline from all the ice fisherman from the previous winter? yes I do. do I care? not much I can do about it it really and yes I do have private property signs all over the place. As long as they don't damage my property I can live with picking up a few bottles.
I am not there to police the property every day all year round, and the police don't have time to police it either. I hope that my no trespassing signs detour majority of people but I know it wont detour all people.
you have to be a little realistic too and understand that unless you on ur property every day, there is not way to police it.
I am not saying trespassing is ok because of course it isn't. but I think property owners need to be a little open to the people just "walking" on their property.
last thing you need is getting someone charged, then they come back to do some real damage!
again gents, just my opinion.
I once had words with a litter bug on the lake in front of my cottage, when his reply was, " I know where your cottage is, and you can't be here all the time". :scream:Then I knew it may be time to just pick up the litter when they are gone.:silly:
I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom I can tell you I don't have money, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will kill you."
