Does anyone know how to fix a rooster tail from the transducer. Just put the HB helix 5 unit on my boat and followed directions on how to install... level with bottom of boat. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, heard that there is a plug that Humminbird provides ... is this true??
I have the same issue!
It's a normal occurrence with transducers. My Humminbird and Lowrance does the same
I would think a small flap above the transducer would work
I've never had a rooster tail like this before. We're talkin' 20' in the air. The Helix transducer is twice the size of a normal Humminbird transducer.Quote:

Yea, that's a lot more than I have. I took my Helix off and replaced it with a Lowrance Hook 7. That transducer is quite a bit bigger than the Helix. I still don't have a 20 foot rooster tail. Even if you mount it flush with the bottom of the boat it still depends on where you install the transducer ! --- I ALWAYS install mine 6-8" aside of the skeg ( to the left of it) . Never had a problem with a rooster-tail .
If you have a rooster tail that means the transducer is to low in the water. The instructions for my helix 5 say raise it up.

There is a rubber plug that comes with the unit. Install it in the space between the transducer and the bracket and this will take care of your rooster tail

Yes this is true. Depending on the degree of the dead rise you might and might not have an issue with a Rooster tailing coming off the transducer. Hummingbird does supply this plug for larger units with Down Scan or Side Scan but you can easily purchase this plug online or at your local Electronics store. The part number is Humminbird XNT Plug (540188-1)

The plug sits between your transducer and bracket which prevents the rooster tail from happening. If you want to make sure this is where the rooster tail is coming from. You can try electrical type around the gap between the bracket and transducer to see if that’s the cause but don’t expect the band aid to last.
