"Rather large hole"...maybe like .50 cal .... and no mention of the fact that it's Muzzle Loader season this week. Great investigative reporting.
Actually the controlled deer hunt is on in that area and shotguns are allowed alongside ML
I wonder if the hunter will post the video.
Where is the proof that this incident actually occured where and when the driver said it did?
"The motorist whose car was struck, travelling alone, drove on to his work in Woodstock before contacting police, Culbert said."
...automatically pointing the finger at a hunter is crap.
Coulda been a ticked off ex, neighbor, gang banger on the loose, etc.
Prove where it happened and that it was a hunter before placing blame.
Ohh...a car has a bullet hole in it.
It was a hunter!
Complete BS until proven.
Creates nothing but more fuel for the anti gunners and anti hunters.
Article says 275m as the max. distance for a slug to travel ! I wouldn't want to bet my life on that. I'd think at least a km if the trajectory angle was high.
Ya is the hole going in or coming out?
Did you actually read the article? It clearly states there is a controlled hunt going on.
"Extra hunting precautions should be taken in places like Oxford County, where the close call happened and where a deer hunt that began Monday runs until Sunday, Hazboun said.
Only shotguns and muzzle-loading guns are allowed to be used in the area during the seven-day hunt."
More a comment in regards to the Published Headline as the culprit being a 'Shotgun' ... when they found a 1/2 hole (.50 cal) in the vehicles side that could have come from either gun.
Quote:
Ontario Provincial Police — now looking for the suspected hunter — found a half-inch hole in the vehicle near the trunk on the passenger side.
“They believe it’s going to be a shotgun slug,” OPP Const. Stacey Culbert said Friday of the fragment retrieved from the car. “There was actually a fairly large hole.”
was the car wearing the proper amount of hunter orange? If not well.....

then again it could be the guy in 92b whos using a shotgun right now during the mz only hunt...just heard 4 bangs in a row...or maybe this guy is really fast reloading his mz lol

ohh wait another 8 in a row lol this guy is on a roll must be a terrible shot

Personally I think it was a hit ....and they used an assassin with a pimped out Savage 10ml capable of sniper shots out past 300 + yds to try take him out. The 'slug' evidence will lead to OPP to believe it was only a local Shotgun hunter.
The perfect crime except he missed..darn those long shots ....LOL...
My main suspect is a deer doin' a drive by shooting.
Question is since this wasn't a mortal wound ethically who gets to claim the vehicle?
Suppose it could be a 12 ga. sabot round. They are .50 cal.
Most Sabots are 45 cal in a plastic sleeve. Sabot
Of course hunting accidents occur.
So do drive by shootings, ticked off ex's, neighbors etc.
All I am saying is that before the finger gets pointed at a particular group of people who possess firearms, perhaps some PROOF should be found.
There is absolutely ZERO concrete evidence in this case, at this point in time...but I guess it is ok to blame us hunters anyway.
THAT is the BS.
Assumptions are not facts.
If you think it is ok for us hunters to automatically assume the responsibilty for this act then that is your mindset and you are welcome to it, as I am welcome to my own.
Didn't we have something along these same lines on another thread about a shot dog?
The example was given "lady found dead at bottom of stairs amid a pile of dirty laundry."
Some immediately blamed her husband.
Some thought the lady fell down the stairs.
Point was....until there is PROOF, we should not automatically assume anything.
Oh...by the way.
The lady did fall down the stairs and the husband was cleared of all accusations.
When looking a the list of suspects its most likely someone out for deer. Had it been downtown GTA sure point the finger at a gangbanger. Don't get me wrong great to defend the integrity of hunters however you need to temper that with a bit of reality. Just like we ask from the anti's to accept that not all guns are bad just the people who use them for illicit means we too have to accept the reality that sometimes bad things happen to good people too.
I hear you fff.
I am just saying that the possibilty of it not being a hunter is still out there...until we have proof, it is not right to blame any group.
I agree that it could have been a hunter and yes, most likely.
However...
Until there is proof, hunters and hunting is being painted bad, in a big way in the media.
It is not right.
Until it is proven, do not place blame.
Just feels like a wee bit of discrimination towards hunters.
What happens when blame for something is automatically placed upon other "groups" for certain acts that are committed?
The discrimination card gets thrown on the table.
How does this situation not apply to the above?
Seabast I removed a sentence from my post because it was not very nice and removing it was the proper thing to do.
I saw vehicles parked at the side of the 401, as well as hunters carrying firearms walking down the 401 on this section last week. Walking down the 401 is illegal and accessing the back of a property via the 401 rather than parking on the sideroad is unsafe, lazy and makes all hunters look bad.
Sadly, this is not the first time a vehicle has been hit by a stray bullet on the 401. No wonder the general public views hunters as drunken yahoos with guns. Incidents like this are a direct threat to the future of hunting in our province. Whoever is responsible belongs in jail.
Seabast,
I hear where you are coming from.
Bottom line is this:
Hunters, as a group, are taking it on the chin for an incident created by ONE person.
We do not know who that one person is, whether he/she is even a hunter.
Could be.
Could not be.
In the event that this person is not caught, hunters, as a group, have already been convicted by a great many people reading that article, without any proof.
The actions of one should not encompass the entire group nor should the actions of an unknown person, be shouldered upon us, without proof.
Since I am a member of the hunting community, I do not appreciate being tarred and feathered for the actions of an unknown individual.
It was a loose lug nut from a wheel,not a shotgun slug,at all........a little bird told me.:ashamed:
LOLOLOLOLOLOLO
...where's the, "sticking my tongue out" icon?
BAHAHAHAHA
No updates yet?
Ohhhh Trimmer....What ye been keepin' from us wee souls today, fella?"
I canny take the suspence.
Day 1. Called in to investigate.
Day 2. Point the finger.
Day 3. Begin using proven investigative methods.
Day 4. Uncover some real evidence.
Day 5. Silence.
Unless the slug passed clean through ( doubtful) then it's inside the vehicle and the forensics guys would easily find it. This is getting a bit of a fish odour to it.
Hopefully they have some good picture books cuz I require a lot of instruction, being new and all.
Maybe another member will tell me what you just said but with a bit more detail....maybe point by point?
Good to see ya Snow :)
Been a bit dull without you rattlin' around ;)
Day 1. Called in to investigate.
Day 2. Point the finger.
Day 3. Begin using proven investigative methods.
Day 4. Uncover some real evidence.
Day 5. Silence.
Day 6. Starts to smell like some stupid conspiracy theory BS.
Day 7. Hope no one comments so it can be quietly flushed.
Sorry to bring reality into it, but this pattern where some offence is reported and silence follows is actually quite normal.
It occurs when there's nothing more to report.

Sorry but the reality of that pointed finger, grinds me.
Quick enough to place blame.
Slow to produce a follow up.
I would think, by now, the cops know for certain if that fragment is from a bullet or a lug nut.
I smell some pompous shyte around here.
That'd be one hell of a fast-moving lug nut.
And the evidence for a lug nut? An uncorroborated second-hand claim from an unnamed source.

I see that you are in a good mood.
As usual.
And the evidence for a slug?
Absolutely none.
That is correct. You have no idea what I am aware of.
I am not exactly sure what your idea of a great mood is. It appears that picking a fight makes you happy.
My contributions to this thread were about the lack of facts, lack of proof and placing blame without ANY evidence.
Haven't quite figured out what your contribution is disguised as.
Pick on someone else Welsh.
I am not in league with you ;)
I am surprised that you would step into a thread armed with nothing more than condescending arrogance and a desire to duke it out.
I thought you had more class than that.
1. The fact that a person does not agree with you does not indicate he is "picking a fight."
2. Generally, the person who picks the fight is the one who responds with a personal attack, for example by suggesting the other is always in a bad mood or commenting on his "obvious arrogance."
3. The fact that there are few facts in a news report does not indicate the police have none.

"Sorry in reality" you were picking a fight.
You were not "disagreeing" with me.
You were "calling me out."
You called.
I came.
...and now I am leaving this because I prefer to walk away from nonsense then to encourage more of the same.
Ta ta
I always thought that two people could have completely opposite viewpoints/thoughts. Always thought and have lived (with only the occasional slip,am human after all) that the key to avoiding confrontation (aka fights) was.
Respecting the other persons point of view, whether one agree's with it not, know's it to be "true" or "not". A black and white case, which the world rarely is.
People can do that by.
A) Expressing and supporting their opinions, thoughts
B) Refraining from belittling the other person, or their viewpoint. Aka stick to what you "believe".
You can usually tell where things go off the rail by who is or who isn't "on the defensive". When someone has to "defend" their opinion.....
Many, many years ago an expert on such things taught me. If someone believes the world is flat, what's important is that "I" recognize that for them that viewpoint is "true". I have two choices.
A) I can belittle them and "go after" them, or their opinion
B) I can argue that it's round and stick to that. Aka make "my" case, or express "my" viewpoint.
Suggesting someone doesn't live in reality........Well yeah, that is going to get their back up, even if they are arguing the world is flat..
Weather it was a slug or not We do not know for sure
We do need to be careful with our guns to maintain public trust. There are some stupid hunters just look at the trespass link.
There are also responsible hunters. It may or may not have been a slug.
Conspiracy theories are just that theories and unproven theories at that
Contentiousness will get us no where. And unity will and discussion may be profitable if we are open to it

The only official report so far is this:
“They believe it’s going to be a shotgun slug,” OPP Const. Stacey Culbert said Friday of the fragment retrieved from the car.
(From the link posted by Ninepointer)
Let's leave it at that as this is getting silly.
